Dirty John (2018)
Painful to Watch
The initial concept and the story that this is based on, it is interesting, but the execution was the worst possible!!! The photography looks like a cheesy tv movie, the script has the most ridiculous lines and the main female characters are so intensely dumb with the exception of Juno Temples's character. I usually like Connie Britton's work, but this one is apathetic and painful to watch, how over and over again she takes all the wrong decisions and it feels like she does not compute anything. Even if this is based on a true story, a well-done script would have made them compassionate and naive without them being dumb, like Ana de Armas character in Knifes Out.
First Man (2018)
Great, Not Perfect.
The first thing you need to know before seeing this movie is, this is the story about the first man that landed on the moon, this is not the story about the landing itself. The movie starts right before Armstrong loose's his daughter and from that on it shows the situations he had to overcome to be on the moon. He was modest and quiet, not a showman, so this is not a super fast full of explosions movie, it's a character movie. The story has its faults, sometimes the movie suffers from the pace of the story, it feels like something it's missing, but not the flag bull***t, something about the context of the story itself.
It's a beautifully crafted movie to be screened on IMAX, with a perfect soundtrack and sound effects, the main actors did a masterful job in being the everyday people that they were.
An excellent movie for people that care about the history of mankind, this is not a Michael Bay's movie.
Suburbicon (2017)
This movie is not for everyone and most people are going to hate.
Suburbicon is what lies behind the perfect picture of the American "culture/dream".
Is not flattering, is not cute, is not dreaming and definitely is not for everyone to have it.
Both storylines have the same end: to show the hipocrasy of the middle class and the ugliness behind the well-cut grass.
The Coen brothers and Clooney are very successful in pointing out the problem, that just because something is shining, colorful and cheerful, doesn't mean that isn't actually ugly and rot.
It's a hard digesting for most of the north Americans viewers.
The Good Wife: The Art of War (2012)
Incredibly Accurate
This ep. is a sad depiction of the reality of women in the military and in society.
Atomic Blonde (2017)
80's action with today's intelligence.
Atomic Blond it's an action movie, with a lavish style and the music shuffle on just to enjoy the moment. The movie follows the same rules of action movies from the 80's and the 90's: you have the problematic mission, the good "guy", the bad guys, the questionable guy and the sexy girls (women). But because a woman is in the lead role, Charlize Theron (instead of Mel Gibson, Bruce Willis or Silvester Stallone), the dynamic of the movie is a fresh breeze. She's not clumsy or in conflict with her abilities, (like most of the female agents in movies) she is a great agent send to deal with a problem and in the processes stumbles with an another problem that she handles in the best way, she knows possible. The thriller/mystery plot stumbles a little bit in the narrative, but that doesn't spoil the thrill of the action sequences, the beautiful choreography of the fights or the great music, and fixes some of 80's and 90's problems, like only strong and intelligent men, only silly sexy girls, no women, racist and sexist jokes, all of that without being boring. It is a popcorn action movie inspired by 80's with the intelligence of today's society.
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)
Why should you watch Phantom Menace.
In spite of being consider the worst movie on the Star Wars series, Phantom Menace is actually a very beautiful and poetic composition, perfect for children.
Create to entertain and explain how someone sweet can became one of the biggest villains of movie history. It also explain the beginning of the downfall of a great society.
It is a movie for hopeful and kind eyes, not middle-age fanatics stuck in the past.
It has all George Lucas movie idiosyncrasy:repeated lines; beautiful scenery; impeccable art production and robotic performances. Very cool!
