A true challenge for directors
13 November 2019
I must defense this show from all those 1 star reviews. Movies and TV shows are majorly visual arts. You can make a movie without sound, which early movies truly were, you can make a movie without music like so many indie movies. But you can't make a movie without images. Now the promise of this show is people are blind, that immediately makes this show the hardest show to make. If people truly were blind and could somehow build a civilization, we would expect nothing appealing visually. People would still create aesthetics with other senses. But how could a TV show present smell? Or all the sound details that we people who have good eyes wouldn't notice? Or the touch sense, how could you present that? You could write a great book about it, focus on how people depend on their other senses. But unfortunately, in a TV show, the appeal largely comes from images. That is the conflict the makers of this show have to deal with. It is definitely not an easy challenge. It is a unique challenge any other shows even haven't to consider. So far, I think they did a good job. They balanced the conflict quite well. Visual appeal is there, but not too much to arouse suspicions from the audience. If they truly made this show even 50 percent accurate according to the promise. They should've made the show at all. It would be impossible. But we live in an age where the TV show competition is so fiendish. If they didn't make this show, someone else eventually would take the challenge. And again, they would face the same conflict. So, it is a good show. Not great, but good enough to be deemed as a decent TV show that could help you pass one hour a day so you would have good spirit to deal with tomorrow's another repeating routine live.

Ten minutes into the movie and I wished every character get killed!
7 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is so bad, I think it doesn't even deserve a review. But since Scott is a big name, and we expected so much, so there we go. Who decided to send bunch of bonehead for such important and expensive mission? When you get a job, even a simple job, you have to be trained a little. Now you are supposed to represent whole human race and try to find a new home for human race, you will be trained extra hard until you don't remember your mother's name. But in Alien: Covenant, what we see is bunch of bums, like the commission just pick the crew randomly on the street and immediately send them on the zillion dollar spaceship. There is no protocol, no strict rules about how to make decisions, how to deal any situations. I supposed this kind of mission will take 50 years to prepare and a protocol that directs any possible situation would be made, and every crew member is supposed to be chose or voted by everyone on earth. Scott tried to make this movie very authentic, then be so. But, sadly, no. The whole movie is just a big laughing stock. After ten minutes I just wished every crew member gets killed by aliens. That is how bad this movie is.

I'd rather rate Avatar -100 to shoot it down
11 February 2010
Of cause I already voted 1 to it, but I still wish IMDb allows me to vote -100. Avatar is the lamest movie I'v ever watched. If you watched Dancing With Wolves, which is my favorite movie by the way, you know what I am saying. Avatar is just a sci-fi version of Dancing With Wolves, and of cause a much worse version of that. The story is weak, the characters are weak, the idea is weak. After 5 minutes you already know what is going on in this stupid movie, and you don't need to be a hardcore movie fan to predict the ending of this movie. Other negative reviews already mentioned the every detail about why this movie is overrated, so it is not necessary to say that again in this review. I just want to share my disappointment. Actually what makes me really disappoint is not the movie itself, since there are lousy movie all the time, but the high rating on this movie. IMDb indicates people's favor. And I think Cameron fooled people once again. He leads movie this great art to a lower level not higher. It is so sad. Actually I have to say, as a thief (he stolen whole story from other movie), Mr. Cameron used people, wasted people's time, and even worse he made young director frustrated by the Hollywood movie law--high costs equals great movie. Unarguably, movie is visual art, it has to be beautiful. So it is obviously correct that more technics should be used in movie to make it more visually beautiful. But if the visual beauty is the only thing left in a movie, I have to say, it is not a movie, it becomes a screen saver. So what is the point of a hollow beauty? It is just so sad that most people are cheated by this hollow beauty.
