The Christmas Tree (1996)
Love love love this rare gem
This classic is from a time when the world wasn't flooded with cookie-cutter Hallmark movies. This is a rare gem about a young girl who is lost following the death of her parents. She copes with her loss with the help of a kindly nun and a for tree in the backyard of the convent which she appropriately names "Tree." Enter a man tasked with finding the Rockefeller Plaza Christmas tree. What follows is both the the life story of this girl and the present story of convincing her to allow tree to be the Plaza tree. A tuoy delightful story that's not all smiles and glitter. If you ever get a chance to see it please do. Because this is extremely hard to find on video or streaming.
Asteroid City (2023)
I don't get it
The story went off the rails within 20 minutes. The acting was stiff intentionally for what purpose I don't know. By the end I was still waiting for the plot to actually develop into something that made sense. The large cast made it difficult to focus on any single character. It was like a movie that was shooting a play about a play. Somewhere in the middle the plot about the alien seemed to coalesce into something like a satire of 1950s reaction to Roswell, complete with attempted military cover up. In the end, the entire thing felt forced. As if the story was supposed to be funny and/or metaphorical but the author was the only one who thought so.
The Secret of NIMH (1982)
Still a favorite after all these years
I can't tell how many times I've watched this movie. It's been a favorite of mine since childhood. It combines fantasy with comedy in a delightful way. Auntie Shrew is one of my favorites.
This is one of those movies you keep for life and share with your kids and grandkids.
Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020)
Tries too hard.
I love Excellent Adventure but this is more bogus than Bogus Journey. It plays out like an incredibly overwritten bad fanfiction. Reeves/Winter must've been desperate to do a movie this bad.
Colossal (2016)
Not very funny and very strange
This month for is billed as a sci-fi/fantasy comedy. But it's not. At first it was kinda interesting trying to figure out the connection between the girl, the park, and the monster. Something that never gets explained at all. After the girl/monster apologizes, you'd think end of story well you're wrong. In fact the longer the movie goes the more bizarre it gets. It's the kind of movie that, when it's over, I'm left saying "Huh?". I literally did not get the point of this movie. Sci-fi is supposed to be vehicle for social commentary but what's the message here don't mix alcohol and relationships because it will end badly? Sandra Bullock already covered that in 28 Days and did a better job at it too.
Friends (1994)
Friends is family
These guys love and laugh and care about each other like family! I mean who can forget Joeys stupid but sophisticated attitude or Chandlers sarcasm or Ross's awkwardness and so on...The only show better than Friends is Big Bang Theory. Actually I take that back...theyre both 10 out of 10
The Founder (2016)
A film with a lot violently hung up phones
A very interesting biopic, although I'm sure much is over-dramatized for effect. This movie has more phones being violently hung up than any movie I've ever seen. Still Offerman and Keaton at off each other extremely well. The thing I find most striking is that a lot of the tactics Kroc used to start the business wouldn't work today.
