An amazing vision...
3 August 2009
Salvador Carrasco through his vision, his direction, and creative hand assembled a great piece of art. I appreciate it on so many levels. To be able to tell an emotionally captivating yet intellectual story is a true talent. This film not only spoke in numbers - topping the box office - got the greatest reviews (its not easy getting into the LA Times) but got picked up to be distributed by one of greatest studious, that in itself displays true success. Carrosco's voice was heard, his vision shared - all which came out of his passion for something he valued, which he transformed into a means in which we could share, view and appreciate. A truly wonderful experience I took part in. I watched a powerful movie based on the the Spanish Conquest of Mexico led by Cortés, and was introduced to the dynamic Aztec people and rich spirit that as we learned through Topilitzin never died. I was captivated. I was entertained. I truly embraced the beauty of this movie, its music, and it's meaning.

A true romance!!
3 August 2009
What an amazing love story. May I begin by saying that the cinematography, design, wardrobe, and music really brought the award winning heat out of this movie. In the midst of all it's creative beauty captured behind and in front of the lense..you have an amazingly well written story of true love. Two couples fall in love out of a result of suspicions which would seem very common if it wasn't for the huge twist Wong Kar-wai wrote in. He is the amazing writer and director behind this masterpiece...hands down one of the greatest I've been introduced to yet (I may be bias...because I'm a true romance freak). This movie drove my emotions from one level to another...I wanted soo much at times. When Chow whispered into the hole..I was breathless. From So and Chow's magical encounter, true love in it's symbolism and true form was understood. Kar-wai even left us with a physical replication of their life and love so if ever there was a question raised, there was a physical answer produced on screen for us.

An amazing documentary..
3 August 2009
The Emperor's Naked Army Marches On was one of the most amazing documentaries I've ever watched. Okuzaki and his wife endured so much over the 5 years, so much pain and emotional suffering to track down the truth. To search for the truth behind what really happened to the soldiers that were in Okuzaki's unit relied on so much of their passion and commitment..I really admire that. Okuzaki along with Kazuo - the amazing director behind this film track down officers one by one...using whatever/appearing however necessary to get within the walls of questioning...completely deceiving most of the time. Each officer who was under Hirohito's power was to explain how the two soldiers died...any form of resistance resulted in abuse verbally and even physically. When the cause was mentioned and when I discovered how the bodies were processed - - I was like ugh!! Who does that?? And the most amazing yet bothersome conclusion I came to in of all this is that I just absorbed Okuzaki's true life experience...a very harsh, painsaking true realism.

What's the story
3 August 2009
The Phantom of Liberty tells many stories of a number of different characters intersecting paths somehow at somepoint. The multiple stories/links had me sitting in my seat trying to connect - still I leave this film unsure of what it's idea really embraced....truly random things happening. What makes this movie very different, and in my assumption greatly appreciated by many is that it doesn't follow a specific order. Most movies have a set foundation - very predictable if I might add these days. The Phantom had me thinking the entire way through...I was like which way is this trying to go..what's it's purpose and what's the outcome going to be. To me this type of richness is a guide that many of today's films should follow. Change up the normality..there's so much free space in front of a lense...be creative.

A beautiful story..
3 August 2009
What a magical story. My adoration for young Ana soars so high, she carried this film with her amazing talent, what an ability to capture and keep an audience. This tale took me back to when I was a child. Like Ana I experienced some teasing/trickery from my older sibling which left me like Ana wondering, asking, imagining many things. What's imagined can seem so real, so extreme you question yourself about reality sometimes. What child doesn't have an imaginary friend? What we saw through the eyes of Ana was real, her emotion/her experience had me glued to the screen. Erice blends the story of Frankenstein within Ana's pursuit to place herself within the chaotic family/world she lives in. As a really strong character, fearless, and bold - she embarked on a journey I as an adult would never step foot on. While beautiful and innocent, rich and intellectual - this film is a bit suspenseful and scary, which is why I scaled this movie with such a high review....so many ingredients which I truly appreciate Erice for thoughtfully assembling.

Come and See (1985)

Come and see...."wow"..,,
2 August 2009
I was dragged head in first to this movie just a few moments after the credits rolled. Come and see was a very unique war movement movie. I don't watch many, but I immediately was engaged in its premise. I was really concerned for the outcome of the boy's life. I must say the effects had me on the edge of my seat. It was visually created so well I could barely watch it. I felt I was going insane for the boy. I mean who wouldn't transition out of being norm after witnessing the terrifying events he saw? This movie was insane - but in a really creative way. From the time this movie began to the very end, I absorbed the creative teams hard work behind their assimilation of war, pain and revenge...and although a bit graphical I must say that I left with an admiration for everyones efforts.

Loved Perham
2 August 2009
A true vision of magic, beauty and freedom is displayed through this movie. Perham (a very talented actor) brought out so many of my inner emotions. Being exposed to his quest and passion for all that he loves, his intelligence and desire to be happy and make others happy made me as a viewer revisit some important points in my life. Yes people are free, a dream seems like reality, reality seems like a dream..everything is unpredictable, and that love can have you on a chase for it's romantic bloom as quickly as it can turn you into a revengeful hunter.

I loved this movie!!
