A great homage to 80s slasher films...don't be alarmed by its PG-13 rating
10 October 2015
The 80's slasher flicks are loved by horror fans more than any other sub-genre of horror because they were fun. What made them fun ? The inventive kills, the over the top bad dialogue, the campy mood, the silly acting, the music, the legendary killer, the gore , and the nudity. So can a PG-13 film successful spoof 80s slasher convention ? This film is proof that it can. You just have to realize that this is not a movie that pays homage to slasher films by recreating the same kind of film. Its a spoof of the silliness of 80s horror. The characters are all likable, and all the actors are well cast. The story line is very clever. And while it may not be the first movie to deconstruct and bend horror film rules, it is one of the best. Watch it in the right mindset and you will not be disappointed especially if your a fan of 80's slasher horror. Do not go in to this one expecting lots of gore and nudity, and you are in for a wicked surprise.

Sons of Anarchy at sea.....
28 March 2014
if you like SONS OF ANARCHY you'll probably enjoy this as well. so far this and True Detective are the only two new series that are worth watching. the first season does take some time to get going, 4 episodes to be exact, but once it does, you're in for a treat. this is a bold series. not afraid to allow its characters to make difficult decisions. just like GAME OF THRONES and SONS OF ANARCHY you will see very surprising character deaths. and just like sons of anarchy you will love these characters who are bad people (pirates in this case), committing horrible actions like murder and theft. what's also great is that they have made it its own thing. having read TREASURE ISLAND won't ruin any surprises and doesn't make the series predictable in any way. the second half of the series took a very unexpected turn. of course there's the unnecessary nudity and swearing, but it's a STARZ series. what did you expect. I am a little bit annoyed by the look of the show. it's not stylized like SPARTACUS, and in fact it feels a bit cheap. the background is always overexposed, but you get used to this. Definitely looking forward to season 2. might fill the void that SONS OF ANARCHY will leave after it ends this year.

so bad...it's almost good
1 November 2013
I gave it a 6. don't watch this expecting much and you might enjoy it. I liked the idea of this film, but not the execution. most if the actors were really bad. The one actor that really impressed me was the clown. He's very funny. It's a shame he's in this movie. I would have liked to see him in a well done slasher film. So this is an anthology film. the first part is OK. it's starts off cheesy and boring but ends very well. would have also liked to see the villains in that part a bit more. the second part is awful. definitely the worst part of this movie. the acting, the story, the aliens....all boring. also the clown wasn't really in that one. the third part is the best part of this film. it's like the ending of a slasher film where the villain follows the last surviving girl. the clown here plays a big part and doesn't disappoint. it tries to look like a grindhouse film and fails but that's OK. the babysitting story where the babysitter is watching these films is OK. what I didn't like is that it ended very quickly. the clown taunts her a bit and then the movies ends. so this is not the worst way to spend 80 min. also the effects are very good. old school. no cgi. blood, decapitated heads, and the usual. watch it for the clown and lower your expectations. it's cheesy fun, if you're into that.

last time I listen to a review from bloody-disgusting
2 October 2013
I heard about this one but didn't even think about watching it as it looked like another cheaply made wanna-be slasher film, that is until I read the review from bloody disgusting. BIG MISTAKE. last time I ever watch something recommended by Patrick Cooper. Every single character in this film is unlikable. The villain looks ridiculous. The writing is awful. So many cheesy lines(Not the ones that make you laugh). And the worst thing are the effects. they look like they were made by someone who watching a couple of videos on youtube and thought he could do this. All the kills are almost the same. AVOID THIS ONE. waste of time and money.

Evil Dead (2013)

weak, uninteresting.....has many problems
2 July 2013
evil dead 2013 is a very unremarkable film. first of all, what was said about there being no cgi is a lie. there are at least 4 scenes that use cgi (the opening scene when the girl burns, the scene where the blonde girl gets her arm infected, and the scene where her arm gets shot and she bleeds.....). the direction is not bad but it's not in any way fresh or different from what we're seeing in other horror films today.what really kills this film is the script (characters are very uninteresting and sometimes very stupid), and the acting ( particularly the main lead is uncharismatic). no real scary scenes. the usual attempts of jump scares that don't work and are many times predictable. maybe it would have been better not to associate this with the evil dead title. the ending is also weak. gory but weak. also this film is not really that gory. Japanese films had more gore in the late 60's. Italian films were gorier in the 70's. and American films were gorier in the 80's. granted it's gorier than anything that has been made lately, but if you compare it with some old Giallo and slasher films it's not that much. no idea why Sam Raimi did not direct this. I'm all for letting new directors make remakes, but evil dead means a great deal to the horror community and it was too much of a risk to let a newcomer direct this. overall a nice try, and a pretty standard horror film, nothing special here.

A lynch experiment gone wrong
31 March 2013
this 3 hour experiment is a complete mess. I love lynch's work. Lost Highway is in my 10 top films. Eraserhead is one of the best surreal films ever made, and the black and white images are nightmarish and beautiful but inland empire is one of the worst films i have ever seen. of course there will be people who will say this is a work of genius. They will tell you, you didn't understand it but that's a load of crap. Lynch was introduced to digital cameras, he had nothing better to do, he had several ideas and themes, and thought " let's do something". If you watch the documentary "LYNCH" you will see when he calls the actors he doesn't know what to tell them about the movie. He calls Jeremy irons and tells him he's doing an experiment. He made the movie with no script. you can also see him playing with digital cameras. The movie looks so amateurish. it feels like the work of a 1st year film student who just bought a camera and is randomly shooting objects and people. This is digital filmmaking at its worst. Unlike Michael Mann's films lynch doesn't know how and when to use a digital camera. this gave him too much of a freedom. his thoughts are all over. Maybe if this was shot on film and there was a script it could have been special but unfortunately its no lost highway or mulholland drive. its 3 hours of random dialogue and images that lynch tries to connect but fails. I hope this isn't lynch's final film. He is one of the best directors out there but this is what happens when you shoot something unprepared and try to fix it later and call it art.

worth a look...
23 July 2008
Warning: Spoilers
for a slasher film it's actually not bad...i wouldn't say its as good as remakes like the Texas chainsaw massacre or Halloween but its worth a look...the most interesting thing about this film is that unlike other films that use creepy music like the ones used in most horror/slasher films it actually uses Christmas songs and Christmas music to scare you...and it works... before a death scene you start hearing this music and instead of feeling happy you know that something bad is going to happen...there are annoying things in the film like the light...many times the light is either red or blue....and most of the killing scenes are the same...its happening over and over and it kind of makes you bored...and to a certain point you could leave and come back and know that you're not going to miss anything interesting cause you've already seen it...many times...so if you're expecting a good horror film stay away cause there's nothing real scary about the film...its gory but that is not very scary...if you just want to have fun watching a slasher film with lots of gore and violence then it definitely worth a look..
