Manifest (2018)
Will it get cancelled before we find out what happened...
The pilot was mysterious for awhile and then became a regular drama or soap opera as stated by others. I am not interested in the characters because I feel I was plunged into the deep individual stories of each main character when all I wanted to know was what happened to the flight. The ominous government agents are also there without explanation.
The actors are good but the timing seems slow, I guess for atmosphere or dramatic effect, but slow so much I miss what was said at times. I have a DVR so I can reverse to catch what I missed, but this just makes it last longer. I was excited when this show was announced but I am losing interest...👍😎👽💀
Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (1957)
Still great after all these years!
I saw this movie when it came out in theaters when I was 12 years old. I liked it even though I had read a lot about the era after the Civil War which most of the movies of the West were supposed to be about, and this movie is not historically accurate. I loved Sci-Fi, Western and comedy movies, this was one of my favorites. Lancaster and Douglas with a host of other great actors and action galore. Although, Burt Lancaster always seemed too upright for this part, it is the Western fantasy I liked. Plus the nostalgia of hearing Frankie Lane from my childhood brought back an era I might depict historically inaccurate. I saw all of the movies about Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday and my favorite is Tombstone with Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer (1993). That movie seem to cast actors that looked closer to the real people and how they acted. Still there was a sort of white wash in that one also. The one actor who was miscast, to me, was Victor Mature as Doc Holliday in My Darling Clementine. Like Lancaster, Mature is a large heroic looking guy and did not resemble the Doc to me. I still enjoyed the movie because it was a Western. I just watched Gunfight at the OK Corral on TCM and it was great and fun watching again.
Monk: Mr. Monk and the Kid (2005)
How to Make a 6'3" monster Cry (A Secret)
This is a great episode one that makes Monk look a little less self involved and caring. The other episode which shows this side of Monk is Mr. Monk and the Dog which also made me happy I was watching it alone. The Kid seemed so intuitive and genuine that I am glad I never heard anything about him being hard to handle. The storyline is intriguing a foster child finds a finger, Monk notices parts that lead him to search for a kidnapped musician, violinist, and becomes like one with the Kid. One of the kidnappers is none other than comic actor Nicole Sullivan, one of my favorites who plays a darker and uncaring character than in the past. She is the foster mother of the Kid, which doesn't seem right but I've read the statistics, with other children in her and a partners care. I've babysat and cared for children during my long life and I wonder how they found the time to plan and execute a kidnapping. It wraps up happily for the violinist's mother and brother, heartbreakingly for the Monk when the Kid drives off with his new adopted parents.
Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014)
Another perspective of Moses - Exodus: Gods and Kings
This is biblical story made into a movie. I like it because it seems to be well made. Whether the story is correct I don't know. If producers and directors want to make movies about the bible or Hebrew Torah then why don't they just follow those words written so long ago. From what I remember from the bible this touches on some of the story but strays a lot trying to fill in the feelings of those characters involved. This movie looks good, has a good cast and has a great director and technical staff, but it just doesn't feel like a biblical story. Seems more like the movies made about the Roman Empire or stories set in the B.C. of history. I believe the last movie I saw about Moses was with Charlton Heston as Moses and he seemed to fit the role while Christian Bale does not. Bale did a good job, he just doesn't make me see him as that bible character or any biblical Character. I have to admit that Christian Bale though a good actor did not seem right for Bruce Wayne and his Batman half is covered with the costume so that part was okay. So movie kind of good and follow the bibles for future projects. Why do they keep making bible movies?
