The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (2022)
Everything a Christmas Movie Should Be
It did everything you want a Christmas movie, show, or special to do. It made you smile, made you laugh. It made you cry. It took on heavy themes of death and grief, and handled them well. It had themes of family and friends. And it has Kevin Bacon. Honestly, I'm surprised they managed to get him for this. It was a phenomenal special and I will be watching it every year now! I really hope that Marvel continues doing these specials, because Werewolf by Night and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special have been two of my favorite projects of Phase 4. And, although some things look slightly cheap, they manage to do a good job with CGI, costumes, etc. Considering how small of a production this is. Definitely a must-watch!
Werewolf by Night (2022)
Top Notch Marvel
This 100% makes it into my top 10 MCU Projects. I loved the black and white stylistic choice and loved how it felt like a 30's-40's style monster movie. I enjoyed how they used more practical effects than CGI- the transformation scene! Man-Thing looked spectacular; I want more of him in the MCU!
One complaint: the actual werewolf looked odd. He walked too much like a human and the makeup didn't look very werewolf-like, it looked more like an extremely hairy human with sharp teeth. Other than that, I loved this! I thought the violent twist was clever and different, yet worked. Will be rewatching!
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law: Superhuman Law (2022)
Better than last week's... maybe just a lil too short
Alright, I take back last week's review. After watching episode one for a second time and now after watching episode 2, I think that there truly are likable male characters in this show. I think that Marvel is doing a great job of building up their strong female characters. I give episode two an 8/10, it was much better than the first one. The CGI was a little iffy, but you've got to keep in mind that this isn't a huge blockbuster movie on a billions-of-dollars budget. It's just a fun TV show that is character-driven and made for the comedy. Stop overthinking it. Just have fun and watch it without criticizing everything. I think that Tim Roth's performance was astounding and can't wait to see more of him.
Overall, I think that this episode was much better than the first one. The comedy was done better, the fourth wall breaking was more spot on, and it was altogether better quality. Still not quite as good as WandaVision, Loki, or Moon Knight- and definitely not the best show I've ever watched- but it was fun and entertaining. Again, I'd give it an 8/10 and would recommend watching it. Just don't overthink it, watch it as a fun comedy. Try to have fun and you will!
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law: A Normal Amount of Rage (2022)
6.5/10
It was... interesting. I didn't hate it but I also don't think it was amazing. The origin of her powers was done well. The CGI wasn't terrible. I mean, it wasn't Infinity War Thanos-level CGI, but it also wasn't Avengers Thanos-level, which is to say: It wasn't great but it didn't suck.
I liked how they acknowledged that it was a law show, not a superhero show. However, I don't think they 100% lived up to that. The first time we see Jen in court, she has to hulk out and fight. I wish we would've gotten just 1 scene of her in court without having to fight anyone, that would bump it up just a bit.
My one big complaint: every male character is a jerk. Bruce is the only one not presented as a jerk, and even he has opposing beliefs with Jen at some points and is almost made out as an opposing force. I do think that female empowerment is important and good, and I do think it can and should be done, but not like this. Every single male doesn't have to be sucky for a woman to be successful. It also makes me wonder how Daredevil will fit in. If part of the reason her female empowerment is working is because none of the men in her life are good, what will happen when a male character that more people care about than her shows up? I don't know. We'll have to wait and see.
I think it was overall a 6.5/10; not the best show ever, but not the worst. That may change as more episodes come out...
X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)
Decent, just bad story
Just finished watching this while I'm going through watching all of the X-Men movies. This isn't terrible, in fact, it's less dated than most of the other ones. You can tell that it came out post-Iron Man compared to all of the previous that came out pre-Iron Man. However, the story is quite confusing and very boring. I think I can see where they were aiming, they just didn't hit the mark quite right. Worth a watch as it's fun to watch, but just don't expect it to have a super compelling story. Definitely just made so that Wolverine could have a stand-alone.
Ms. Marvel: No Normal (2022)
AWESOME FINALE
The last 2 episodes were decent, but felt rushed and as if they were heading towards a mediocre finale. But this exceeded my expectations. And the end credit scene! WOW! So confused. I have no idea what happened. But a good cliffhanger! Can't wait for next July to find out! This was truly amazing.
Thor (2011)
Quality movie
Especially considering the time it came out, it's an amazing movie. Acting is good, story is good. Pretty underrated, like most of the early Marvel movies. Definitely watch it.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part VI (2022)
Makes both the prequels and originals better
I love the connections and callbacks to both and and there is one scene in particular (roughly 20 minutes in) that gave me chills. It had such Return of the Jedi vibes while also continuing to bridge the prequel-original gap. Season finale was spectacularly brilliant!
Ms. Marvel: Destined (2022)
Awesome creativity
They did an amazing job of changing this from the comics, while also doing it well and keeping it believable. I am so excited to see where this goes- and is there is any connection to the Ten Rings.
Thor: The Dark World (2013)
Not good but not bad
It's the most "meh" Marvel movie ever. It'll help to watch it before you watch Endgame. Judging by the trailers I think it'll help to watch before Thor: Love and Thunder. Not terrible and you'll still enjoy it. Somewhat worth the watch.
Iron Man 2 (2010)
Not as good as the first
Honestly kinda forgettable. I had to check the villain's name again to write this review. And I watched it about 3 weeks ago for the 3rd time AT LEAST. I didn't hate it while watching it, but it doesn't add too much. The main appeal is that Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow is introduced in this, which is good for later movies. Still worth watching if you've got time and want to watch all the Marvel movies, but don't sweat it if you can't.
Captain Marvel (2019)
One problem:
Brie Larson. The movie isn't even that bad other than that. Sure, they didn't hit the female empowerment mark perfectly, but that didn't ruin the movie. The message still got across and was decently executed. The casting was poor. Brie Larson is good in other things (ex. Kong: Skull Island) but feels dry any time she plays Carol Danvers. I'd say that the movie overall is good and definitely a must-watch when it comes to knowing about what's going on in the MCU, but you're gonna have to look past the poor casting choices.
Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
Love this movie
It hits all of the marks perfectly. It's an origin story and done like other origin stories, yet still compelling and fun to watch every time. Especially considering the fact that only a couple more super successful superhero movies came out before this. Worth the watch and would recommend to anyone who asked!
Iron Man (2008)
Awesome movie
This movie was such a good movie, especially for the time it came out. This movie established what a Marvel movie, and really any comic book movie, can be and should be. Most of the movies before this were cringey and campy but this changed all of that.
The Incredible Hulk (2008)
Good, but dated
Honestly this gets too much hate. The plot is actually good, acting is good for the most part. The only meh thing about it would be the CGI. Very dated. Opening credits too. Other than that, though, it's a pretty good movie. Would recommend!
The Lost City (2022)
Not good, but still fun and entertaining
Definitely not a quality movie. Acting isn't great and points, story is pretty meh. But it's still hilarious. The jokes are so stupid that they're funny. I'd say don't waste part of your life watching it if you have other things you could do, but definitely watch it if you've got nothing.
Ms. Marvel: Crushed (2022)
Just about as good as the first!
I think this show is definitely off to a good start and I can't wait to see what happens in episode 3! I'm so invested in this and I think everything about it is creative and fun. So excited to see what they do with these characters next!
Ms. Marvel: Generation Why (2022)
AWESOME!!
Awesome start! Amazing cinematography and awesome storytelling! So creative! Feels like Marvel meets a Disney Channel show, but an actually good Disney Channel show. Can't wait for episode 2!
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Raimi, Not Marvel
Kinda horrorish, but not too bad. Just make sure you watch it with the lens of a Raimi horror movie, not a Marvel movie. It has such a different feel from movies like Avengers and Thor that you'll be disappointed if you try and watch it with the same lens. Overall, a pretty good movie.
Moon Knight: Asylum (2022)
Different... yet the same
Marvel is so good at following their formula but still making it different and fun. I am so glad with everything they've done with Moon Knight. I'll admit, I was at first not sure how I felt about Oscar Isaac in a Marvel project, but he KILLS in his role! I have high hopes for the finale...
National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007)
Better than the first one
You can tell that they weren't expecting the first one to be a hit. So then they stepped up their game on the second one when it was. Again, barely any character development and not a super strong plot, but still entertaining and fun. Definitely worth the watch as well.
National Treasure (2004)
Not good, but entertaining
The plot is ultimately stupid, the acting isn't great, character development is either nonexistent or rushed... but I still love this movie. It's exciting. It's funny. It's fun. Definitely worth the watch, even if it is kind of a low budget, not as good Indiana Jones.
Daredevil (2015)
AWESOME
I've only watched season 1 and season 2, but I can still tell that this is probably one of my favorite super hero projects ever. Charlie Cox's performance is astounding and he along with Vincent D'Onofrio truly makes me believe they are enemies. Everything about this show is spectacular, from acting, to cinematography, to story. I am so excited for more Daredevil material in the MCU. EDIT: I've not finished season 3 and... WOW. I'm so excited for She-Hulk, simply because Daredevil's gonna be in it. Please go sign up for Disney+ to watch this and the other Defenders series. Order of Watch is:
- 1 Daredevil, Season 1
- 2 Jessica Jones, Season 1
- 3 Daredevil, Season 2
- 4 Luke Cage, Season 1
- 5 Iron Fist, Season 1
- 6 The Defenders, Limited Series
- 7 The Punisher, Season 1
- 8 Jessica Jones, Season 2
- 9 Luke Cage, Season 2
- 10 Iron Fist, Season 2
- 11 Daredevil, Season 3
- 12 The Punisher, Season 2
- 13 Jessica Jones, Season 3.
Hawkeye (2021)
Loved It
Awesome acting, story, plot. I do wish Fisk (Kingpin) had had more of a part in the story, but trust Marvel knows what they're doing. I doubt he's gone forever, especially with the return of Charlie Cox as Daredevil in No Way Home. Loved the Christmas theme! Can't wait to see what's next for these characters!
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Best Live Action Spider-Man Yet
Now, I know people won't agree with that, but don't let the haters hate. I will admit, Tobey's second is a very close contender, but it doesn't beat this. Fan service done AMAZINGLY. Acting was AWESOME. (Willem Dafoe is one of the best actors in Hollywood). Plot: WONDERFUL.
