The Royal Hotel (2023)
4 Stars For Curing Insomnia
I went into this movie with an open mind. I did not know at all what it was going to be about. After thoroughly watching this entire film, I'm afraid I still don't know what it is going to be about. I kept waiting for the climax or moment of appreciation for the film, but it never came. As soon as the credits started rolling, the very first thought I had was, "what did I just watch?". That doesn't happen to me often considering my two favorite directors are Darren Aronofsky and David Lynch. I mean no disrespect towards Kitty Green, but she wrote a bad script and then poorly directed that bad script. Although I can't imagine I could expect much more from a screenplay that was based on the documentary, Hotel Coolgardie. I do have to give credit to the actors/actresses involved in this movie, which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 1. This film reminds me a bit of Mother!, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem. Only where Mother! Hits the mark with audiences, I'm afraid this one falls short, atleast for me it did.
4/10.
Armageddon (1998)
Don't believe the negative reviews!
This movie is what every other disaster movie has failed to live up too. From the all-star cast, to the writers and directors. This film was brilliant and will always have replay value, which is the most important value in a film. Ignore all the negative reviews and watch it for yourself.
Moonfall (2022)
One star for being watchable...at best
As a huge fan of disaster and apocalyptic movies, my expectations were just too high! To what was marketed as the next big disaster movie, was just that. From poor performances, that were only amplified by the horrible dialogue, to the cheesy special effects. The entire script must have been written over night. Not only is the plot scientifically impossible, many of the scenes are blatantly unrealistic, as if you are watching a comedy film. Hollywood had a chance to make a great disaster movie about the moon falling and failed. The whole concept of the moon falling is a great idea to compete with past successes such as Armageddon, Deep Impact, and The Day After Tomorrow. Throw that out the window and wait for the next asteroid movie. This is simply a poorly written, poorly directed, over-produced sci-fi film, that ultimately got what it deserved..financial loss and negative reviews. Absolutely no effort put into this film.
The Guilty (2021)
Imagination at its finest!
6.9 !!! This movie has a few holes, and could have been better obviously. But as far as creativity and making the audience use their imagination it's top of the line. You create your own imagery of what is happening . It is a very entertaining and will have you biting your finger nails in suspense.. Jake Gyllenhaal carries the entire movie on his back and succeeds in doing so. Give this one a watch but don't expect to remember it forever.
Saint Maud (2019)
To Be Remembered!
It stays with you! Flawless acting! A visual masterpiece. What an ending! I recommend this to anyone who likes dark films !
7 out of 10 ! And well worth the watch!
