Meh

The first joke and only good joke was literally the first scene in the movie. It's fine and Keegan Michael Key does a nice job, as always. Overall, not worth your time (if you value it.)

SO GOOD!
3 April 2022
As someone who has gone through being tormented for loving theater, I adore this movie. It's charming, witty, bright, and joyful. Libby and Nate's actors shine and Joshua Bassett and Lisa Kudrow are amazing (as always).

Leatherface Being Iconic for 84 Minutes Straight
22 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I found this film to be enjoyable. I liked the sisters. Leatherface is literally entirely supernatural at this point and can survive anything. The gore was awesome! The bus scene was totally insane. (I was totally rooting for Leatherface though after the "try anything and you're cancelled, bro" line.) The 8/10 is probably mostly because I'm still in shock from the ending, which was totally awesome! Although, that might change since I'm pissed about their brutal and honestly practically comical slaying of OG final girl, Sally. And in retrospect, it is totally Melody's fault she died, she was WAY too leasuerly about leaving that town. Anyways, I reccomend this movie- for people who either don't give a crap or are Texas Chainsaw fans.

Amazing

This is phenomenal. Jenna Ortega absolutely killed it as the lead role, Vada. This movie also has really great queer themes and realistic teenage characters!

Trolls Holiday (2017 TV Movie)

Cute
17 November 2021
Okay, obviously this wasn't Citizen Kane/Paddington 2 but this was really cute! Probably my favorite part was when they had the refrence to the old troll designs from the 1980s. Also, I KNEW i recognized Zoey Deeschanel (Bridget) but I couldn't put my finger on it. A bit too much modern pop music (it is Trolls, after all) and Anna Kendrick's voice is pretty annoying (specifically her Poppy Voice not her actual voice) but it's cute. Show it to your kids around the holiday season, 20 minutes to yourself.

Emotional, Uplifting, Powerfull
30 June 2021
Coming from someone who was familiar with the musical when it came out... I ONE HUNDRED PERCENT reccomend this. Not a single dull moment with talented actors such as Anthony Ramos and Melissa Barrea. It was a movie that had me in tears, then laughing, then wanting to get out of my seat and dance along to the "Carnaval del Barrio". Do not skip this one!

If She Doesn't Scare You, No Evil Thing Will...

This movies aesthetic was wonderful. Both of the Emma's did an absolutely FANTASTIC job at their roles. If the disney live action remakes/retellings haven't been doing it for you- don't skip out on this one. It's something special.

Infinitely Wonderful
29 March 2021
The Perks of Being a Wallflower centers around high school freshman Charlie becoming close with senior step-siblings Patrick and Sam. It also covers the subjects of PTSD, sexuality, suicide, and sexual abuse.

Logan Lerman, Ezra Miller, Emma Watson, and Nina Dobrev are just a few of the big names attached to this project, and they did not disappoint. Each gave an absolutely stellar performance. But, if I was to give a specific shoutout, Ezra Miller definitely takes the cake, showing the all too relatable struggle of closeted relationships.

This film is set in 1991 which gives the film a fun grunge aesthetic. It also handles its heavy topics with lots of respect.

The only reason I rated this film a 9 instead of a ten are: 1. Emma Watson's poor attempt at an American accent 2. The middle was a bit slow.

If you can get past those two things, and you love other YA book-to-movie adaptations, definitely check this one out.

A Week Away (2021)

Generic, but a fun summer camp story centered around faith
28 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
To be honest, I watched this movie and expected to hate it. I was pleasantly surprised.

Disney Channel fans may recognize this films star as Kevin Quinn (Xander from Bunk'd). He does an amazing job in this movie, and is definitely a highlight. Quinn does a great job with the someone generic and predictable script he was given. Now that I think about it, Quinn was destined to be the star of a christian film. If you watch the movie, you'll know what I mean.

Iain Tucker (Insatiable, Words on Bathroom Walls) stars as Sean: the foil to our lead character. This character goes from the spectrum of annoying to straight up evil and right back down to good guy. This may be questionable for the character development, but gives a great lesson on forgiveness and love, when Will forgives Sean at the end of the movie, and holds not grudges.

Bailee Madison, quite possibly the most recognizable face in this flick (Wizards of Waverly Place, Bridge to Terabithia) stars as Avery, the love interest of Will. She's a great paring for Will, who she bonds with quickly over the fact they have both lost a parent(s). This is perfectly fine, until Avery starts singing solo. That's when you realize, Madison should have avoided doing a musical movie. Her voice wouldn't be quite as bad in any other circumstance, but in a musical film, it is clear to see her talents not shining as brightly as Quinn and other members of the cast. Although, the overall performance she gave carried much emotion.

The music is definitely the story's weakest point. Although not awful, every song is forgettable/boring and all sound the same. The finale song was definitely the peak. The worst song was a strange song played about the lord during a paintball tournament that didn't fit the scene whatsoever.

The movies finale scene is definitely where the movie hits its stride, closing up all plot points in a very satisfying conclusion.

So, do I reccomend this? For a christian family movie night, for sure. If you aren't in the mood for a cheesy, yet heartwarming story about faith, maybe skip out on this one.

The Billie Eilish music ruins the vibe
28 March 2021
I tried- I promise I did. I could barely get past the first episode. I applaud this show for having a cast of mostly newcomers, and I really do think Thaddea Graham (Bea) did a great job in this. This show is supposed to be about like some Sherlock graphic novel things, but it just feels like Nancy Drew meets Stranger Things/ Umbrella academy. This show had so much potential, but was executed poorly. Also the soundtrack was confusing. The weird modern punk mix didn't fit the vibe for me. Just skip this one. There are much better shows with similar concepts out there.
