Game On (III) (2024)
4/10
Cringey adaption of 13 Beloved/ 13 Sins!
6 March 2024
Alright, so let's dissect this masterpiece called "Game On." Or should I say, "Game Over" for anyone expecting a decent flick? This movie is like that dish your mom tries to cook with all her heart but ends up burning because she forgot to turn off the stove. Yeah, it's that bad.

First off, let's talk about the rating. 7.5? Seriously? Did the critics watch the same movie I did, or did they accidentally pop in a classic instead? Because last time I checked, "Game On" deserves a rating closer to the number of times I sighed in disappointment while watching it.

The screenplay is like a patchwork quilt made by someone who has never touched a needle in their life. Scenes are just randomly thrown together, like mismatched puzzle pieces trying desperately to fit. And don't even get me started on the actors. They're as stiff as a board, like they're auditioning for a statue role in Madame Tussauds.

Especially the male lead. I mean, who cast this guy? Did they pick him off the street and tell him to pretend to act? Because that's exactly what it feels like. His portrayal of the protagonist is about as convincing as a fish riding a bicycle.

Now, onto the plot. The idea of a loser-turned-hero is as old as time itself. But you'd think with all references to reference material (13 Sins / 13 Beloved), they could spice it up a bit, right? Nope. The execution is about as exciting as watching paint dry. And don't even get me started on the execution of "cheating/betrayal" and "falling in love" themes.

And let's not forget about our dear protagonist. He's supposed to be the star of the show, but honestly, he's about as interesting as watching grass grow. There's nothing exciting about his character, no depth, no complexity. He's just there, taking up space on the screen like a forgotten extra.

But hey, it's not all doom and gloom. There is one shining light in this dark abyss of a movie: the female lead. Sure, she's a bit stiff in some scenes, but compared to the rest of the cast, she's Meryl Streep. She deserved so much better than this dumpster fire of a film.

Netflix's Repetitive Disappointment...
9 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I had high hopes for the movie because of the trailer, especially with the theme of social media addiction. Even Ananya Pandey looked promising.

Unfortunately, the actual movie on Netflix India turned out to be another letdown in their streak of disappointing original content. It seems like Netflix is stuck in a loop of repeating the same production house and storyline, portraying middle-class characters as lacking "morality" compared to Bollywood elites.

They often depict a sympathetic rich guy with emotional issues, justifying cheating by claiming revenge isn't an option, even when the cheating party ruins the career of the innocent. This time, they added a touch of sympathy for celebrities by suggesting that trolling is done by the frustrated middle class.

It feels like more of the same narrative - almost like propaganda.

Animal Breaks Chains of Political Correctness!
1 December 2023
Director Sandeep Vanga Reddy, often accused of ruffling the feathers of self-proclaimed "liberal critics" with his films like Kabir Singh and Arjun Reddy, appears to have taken the criticism to heart and birthed a film that is unapologetically raw, intense, and unabashedly violent.

Ranbir Kapoor's portrayal of "Animal" is a true tour de force. He effortlessly navigates between ferocity and vulnerability, crafting a multifaceted character that keeps the audience captivated from the opening scene to the closing credits...

A standout feature for me is the director's choice to confront the critiques of his past works by offering a more substantial characterization for the female lead, played by Rashmika. In the second half of the film, Rashmika delivers an unexpected and impactful performance.

The exploration of the relationship between father and son adds an emotional depth that goes beyond the superficial intensity. The tribute to The Godfather was rather nice.

Ps: The only criticism I have is of Tripti's character. I wish there was more of her...

Missed potential!
18 June 2023
Pichaikkaran 2, the spiritual sequel to its predecessor, falls victim to terrible writing and execution, which ultimately destroys the exciting premise of brain transfer from a poor protagonist to a wealthy individual. Despite a moving story centered around the struggles of the poor lead character, the film's downfall lies in the hands of the lead actor who took over the role of writing and directing.

The overreliance on sentimentality and cringe-inducing scenes detracts from the potential impact of the story. While the movie attempts to explore themes of identity and social justice, it falls short in its execution, resulting in a disappointing viewing experience.

It is a movie marred by weak writing, unrealistic courtroom scenes, and an unsatisfying climax...

Crazy ride of Multiverse!
18 September 2022
Everything Everywhere All At Once succeeds where even brand Marvel fails: the concept of Multiverse.

This requires a right level of ambition and high amount of craziness. A formula which Hollywood couldn't decode, until now.

The writer-director knows what they want and also knows what they want audience to experience, right from the first frame.

Be it the mundane life of the main character or John Wick-style martial arts.

Everyone in the movie is connected, so you don't feel even a second wasted.

I believe this is more than enough for you to give this movie a chance.

Sit back and enjoy the ride.

Entertaining Thriller!
20 August 2022
Deliciously violent, this imaginative tale about a high-school girl is a must watch.

While it's true that the fight scenes only appear in the latter half of the story, they are far more amazing than mainstream superhero movies.

And the perfomance of the lead actress is a sight to behold.

Barely average!
24 June 2022
Very few jokes actually land in this family drama about two conflicting couples.

I cringed with the way conflicts were resolved. Too cliche and preachy even for a Dharma film.

If you still want to watch it, wait for its arrival on OTT and save your money 💰.

Lacks The Magic!
6 May 2022
Multiverse of Madness lacks the magic that made Dr. Strange #1 great.

The plot is messy and the motivation of the villain isn't great enough to justify the scale.

Still the movie has its moments to justify a watch. Far better than the last few Marvel flicks.

A Disappointing Sequel!
17 February 2022
A Thursday is what we call a "spiritual sequel: a movie with no real connection to the original.

A Wednesday was a masterpiece thanks to its thrilling plot that kept you on edge even after the big twist. Sadly A Thursday has neither thrills nor edge, forget compelling "twist".

The screenplay is so weak that you get bored in 30 minutes. Even the message feels forced instead of being subtle.

All over, you can skip this movie.

An average copy of Woody Allen's Matchpoint!
11 February 2022
Call it an homage or a shameless copy, the movie is pretty much a Bollywood version of Matchpoint and other Woody Allen movies!

If you haven't watched Woody Allen movies, you might find it unique (though slow), but for rest, it's a boring watch.

Another dud from Marvel
5 November 2021
It's even worse than Shang Chi, and trust me, even I can't believe that's possible.

Marvel needs to stop being complacent after making records with Endgame. Can't take fans for granted with boring movies.

Average Marvel Flick!
28 October 2021
Great start, especially the fight choreography between Shang Chi's parents. That was sheer awesome and so was the fight in bus where we got good humour as a bonus.

But then story gets dragged out and turns weird.

Instead of taking us to Shang Chi's universe which is about martial arts... we are to Dr. Strange's.

Dark Door, a soul-consuming monster from another realm... It was like they borrowed elements just for the hell of it.

Expected so much...

Keep expectations low and you might like it
6 July 2021
Because the movie is average in all departments. The premise is interesting no doubt, but the execution is poor. The writers try to juggle multiple plot elements - family, aliens, end of world, etc- and fail badly.

Starts great but turn average by the end!
2 July 2021
The movie has romance, affair, gray characters, and murder. In an ideal scenario, that makes a delicious combination for a masterpiece!

Alas, what starts as a good romantic thriller - dealing with an arranged marriage - soon turns into a hot mess. Writer fails to handle so many plot elements and falls badly when the Big Reveal comes.

Climax (2021)

Sarcastic, Humorous, and Fun!
1 July 2021
If there's one movie to watch this season, it is Climax. Unlike most movies, there's no hero or villain here, and as the movie portrayals no good or bad either. The main character seems to be a spoof on our favourite leader and famous conmen. He's fun with his philosophy of enjoying life no matter the situation.

The female lead aka the girl who spends the night with main character is equally fun with her performance.

So if you want to have some laughs with nice touch of philosophy, watch this.

A worthy adaption of The Invisible Guest!

A must watch even if you have watched the Spanish masterpiece. The makers have given it a unique touch to keep the suspense alive and make it refreshing. Definitely recommended!

Director failed this time!
20 June 2021
Despite an very interesting premises, the series badly fails in its execution. The suspense lacks the thrills and fun, unlike the director's masterpieces - The Invisible Guest and The Body.

Pathetic show
15 June 2021
The series is rather lame with boring characters and dull suspense. Even the murder mystery of the titular character is barely engaging. All in all, skip this series to save your time.

Disappointing Second Half, But Great Start!
7 June 2021
Watch this series for its homage to Hollywood iconic series. It is interesting with plenty of laughs.

Sadly the laughs ends when the main plot starts, which honestly is nothing great. Even the revelations feel boring and you just hope for it to end.

Below Average Marvel Stuff
7 June 2021
Despite the interesting premises originating from Endgame, the series is a big disappointment. There's no real story despite the involvement of many plot concepts: Flag Smashers, refugees, new Captain America, racial issues, etc.

Even the two titular characters feel boring, not at all like their mainstream portrayal. Skip the series to save yourself from some serious disappointment.

A solid thriller!
8 May 2021
Female murders, wonders of medical science, and a police officer combines to form this very likeable movie.

It has a great premise with good direction, though the climax was rather average. There is plenty of suspense in the first half, but in the second half, it gets predictable. The only disappointing part is that the movie tries to force-feed its core message instead of being subtle.

Skip it to save your Raat!
21 April 2021
Plain bad performances - by otherwise reliable actors - are further ruined by terrible screenplay and nonexistent plot. There's no suspense or thrill as everything is "said" instead of being "shown".

Three stars because I loved the allover premise, but that's not enough to waste your night (Raat).

I wasn't expecting much, but the movie surprised me. It has good humour, some pretty hilarious situations based on real-life events that every Indian can identify, and fun romance. Recommended!

Another boring Indian movie from Netflix
29 March 2021
Netflix should fire its Indian staff while they still have a chance. Because if they don't, Netflix is destined to shut with all the terrible projects.

Worst movie of 2020
29 March 2021
It is as bad as Akshay Kumar's Laxmii. Poor acting, low budget, and no story. Don't even mention direction. It feels like someone shot it on a phone.

Do yourself a favour and skip it.
