Pretty good film, but
4 May 2003
The one thing I found strange about the movie was that when Melanie first arrives back at Jake's place, she totally ignores the hound dog, until several minutes later, when she and Jake both tell it to "shut up," calling it different names and she finds out their first dog has died. Later in the film, when she visits the pet cemetery, it appears that she had been extremely fond of "Bear," their original dog...

Just awful

It's been many years since I've seen this movie on TV, but it's badness is permanently engrained in my memory. I kept looking for the high school theatre dept. mention in the closing credits. All these soldiers wanting to have a crack at Ursula Andress, before they meet their doom. Hopefully, the next time it's on, there'll be an Ed Wood film on another station!

Very pleasantly surprised!

From all the negative reviews about this film, I was expecting to be disappointed, although I am a history buff. The first half of the movie, as reported, was a love story, but a very interesting one in my humble opinion. Only one complaint though. Were there no plain nurses at Pearl Harbor? The special effects in the action scenes were very well done. I found myself bouncing around in my seat, trying to avoid the bullets. I also anticipated the movie ending after the Hawaii attack and found the sortee to Japan, an enjoyable bonus, rather than an unnecessary extension of the movie, as some others insisted. I also thought Jon Voigt did an excellent job as Roosevelt. This is a movie that I would quickly recommend. I really can't understand all the criticism.....

Very good film.

The scene between Teddy and Sandy in his loft is one of the most erotic on film. The film really gives you the feeling of how many Europeans got caught up in the patriotic frenzy that was the pre-war period. I try not to miss this film, whenever I have a chance to see it....
