Jujutsu Kaisen: Kyoto Sister School Exchange Event: Group Battle 0 (2021)
Second half saved the worst episode in the show
The previous episodes in the show were straight up masterpieces but this episode had a number of problems that made me dislike it. First they rushed and treated Itadori coming back like a joke. I was really looking forward to their reaction but it seems they didn't put much thought into it. They could have made it at least slightly emotional but they instead used it for cheap slapstick. That's honestly the biggest problem with this episode. Most everything else was fine and harmless. The part with Kyoto school or whatever it was wanting to kill Itadori was interesting enough that this arc seems like it'll be a little more interesting. Although I already have a hunch that it's gonna start as a friendly competition albeit with attempted murder involved and then some powerful curse or one of those curse guys who attacked previously is gonna come attack them and it's gonna be the two schools vs them. It'll probably be similar to the one arc of mha with Nomu and all might but with cooler animation but I don't know. Either way this episode was disappointing but it was passable. 6.9/10.
Jujutsu Kaisen: Tomorrow (2020)
An amazing follow up to the best episode in this series so far
While this episode didn't have the same emotion and cool action as the last one it still had both of those and it gave us a backstory for the serious guy. Itadori also continues to learn more and more about the reality of what being a jujutsu sorcerer means and that he will be forced to kill people in his time. Also I was annoyed that mr patch face got away I wanted him to die. Anyway amazing episode 9.4/10.
Jujutsu Kaisen: To You, Someday (2020)
Jujutsu Kaisen has just risen to new heights.
Jujutsu Kaisen so far has been an great shounen because of its intriguing battle system, beautiful animation and choreography and likable characters. Now these likable characters have grown more depth especially Junpei who we were all horrified to see die in the most pathetic disrespectful manner and Itadori. You really feel his rage and root for him the whole time. I forgot the patch face guys name but I hope he dies. The animation is just another level. If you're wondering why we had cgi Titans in aot that's because all the budget went here. Anyway phenomenal episode 9.7/10.
Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song: My Code - To Make Everyone Happy With My Singing (2021)
Interesting
This episode was an interesting and promising start to this anime but wasn't without its problems. The story is really interesting and the world is really cool. There are no memorable characters so far except teddy bear and vivy. A problem I see arising is how are you going to develop an ai, a literal robot programmed to do specific things and can't do anything outside of that. If the writers don't find a creative way to develop vivy and whatever other characters end up becoming relevant or find a new approach that doesn't involve development for vivy then they're going to be left with yes as an excuse for development. That's the only thing I really fear for this anime's future. The pacing was slow but it fit with the dark tones and the way the story seems to want to go so that's alright with me. The animation though. It's beautiful. I absolutely love the way they brought vivy to life. Really good stuff. The music doesn't particularly stand out yet but it's good and probably slightly above average. Anyway it's a good anime with lots of potential and lots of directions it could choose to go.
Fumetsu no Anata e: Our Goals (2021)
The first hint of a bigger plot
While this episode isn't the best episode it is the one that builds the world the most. At the beginning Fushi learned to speak which gave us a sense of progress and development. To me it represents what he's learned and it was timed perfectly to be during a time when a break would make sense. Then at the end he fought a new enemy and it was hinted that there was more to this story than meets the eye. This is very interesting and the potential with this story world and characters is very high. I hope it can live up to it with the episodes and seasons to come.
Fumetsu no Anata e: Those Who Follow (2021)
Phenomenal
It wasn't as emotional as episode one for me but it possibly beat it. Marchs death was a surprise and a sad one at that and the orb (forgot his name) got lots of character development. So did the girl (also forgot her name) and it was great to see. I was especially scared when she held the knife to her throat. Overall this show has had a bit of cliches and things that are easy to see coming from a mile away but it doesn't change the fact that when it gets good, it gets good. Also the animation is phenomenal and I'm not saying this show is cliched or that it's predictable as a show. 9.8/10.
Fumetsu no Anata e: The Last One (2021)
This was so incredibly sad
At first I came into this expecting a mostly happy story that was just well written but no. It was just absolutely depressing and devastating. When I found out he was as the title says, "the last one" It didn't surprise me but it still made me hurt a bit. But what really hurt was that all his people died and then his dog and then... him. And that was the part that broke me. There's nobody left to carry on what happened to whoever was here. Because they all died. The t was so sad to see him die and the only one who can carry him on is the orb. Whatever happened was lost. The soundtrack was incredible at conveying the emotions and the animation was breathtaking yet simple. My one issue is that they've set up so many expectations that I don't know how they'll live up to it. (Side note: it's been more than a day since I watched the episode because it hurt too much to write a review on it.
Invincible: It's About Time (2021)
Best pilot I've ever seen
Bro that ending was insane. At first I was watching some happy character and story building with a semi stereotypical hero story and then at the end this "strongest" hero went and killed every guardian with no clear reason. That was insane!
Wonder Egg Priority: Makezaru Senshi (2021)
It was awesome!
But it didn't tie things up. There's room for a lot more, the story isn't completed yet. Even so this show is incredible. There was some incredible animation, music, characters, theme, and while it didn't completely make sense when did Wonder Egg Priority ever make sense? Season two please!
Wonder Egg Priority: Otona no Kodomo (2021)
Best episode!
The backstory was just insane. Everything I say here is just my interpretation but it's still really good. They made a child that they learned to love and care for but then they met a woman they both loved dearly. One of them got married and as a result stopped paying as much attention to frill and frill out of spite led to this woman's death. Acca got so angry that he beat her, ai or not and kicked her into a container where she would stay awhile. The baby of the woman survived but frill had some sort of curse thing that led to her committing suicide or it might have legit been the conversation she had with acca I don't know but that moment I wanted more than anything to burn frill to the ground. This episode was insane, full of mature themes, and beautiful. My only issue is they have one episode left to tie it up and one episode is not enough for what's left here.
Wonder Egg Priority: Kokuhaku (2021)
Bro they just went insane
I thought I was going to get another good episode but this was something else. Instead of finding hope when they were freed momoe found despair. Like you could see that she was mentally disturbed. The pieces are starting to come together but I'm afraid they're running out of episodes to tie it up.
Black Clover: Faraway Future (2021)
One of the greatest this season
While it doesn't have the budget of Black Oath or the emotional impact and suspense it had, Faraway Future adds a lot to the overall world of Black Clover. We learn things like Asta's devil's origin more about the world of the devils, Asta's Mom! The latter matters to me a lot because now I wonder, who is Asta's dad? Now Asta and his devil are partnered up and the new movie is so hype! Also the use Haruka Mirai is always nice which funnily enough translates to Faraway Future. Anyway 9.8 for me. Watch It.
Black Clover: Black Oath (2021)
This is the first time I've handed Black Clover a 10.0/10
I've sometimes given episodes of Black Clover 10.0 but most of the time what I meant by that was it's a 9.5 or higher rounded up to 10. But this episode is different. Out of all the episodes I've watched from Black Clover this is easily the best one, and why you ask? Everything. The animation literally became incredible with the character movements looking more fluid and the decreased use of speed lines to emphasize a moment. While the speed lines are still there they're not in every action shot making the animation more fluid as compared to janky and slow. The new devil powers that Asta gained were not just some stupid plot armor. It makes sense for him to confront his demon and the story even said that mages can unlock new spells by having strong emotions. Yami and Asta both pushed past their limits and Asta gained a new demon arm for 50 seconds which was all the was required to beat Dante. They moved in perfect sync and at the last second of Asta's powers Yami handed him his sword which turned into an anti-magic sword and Asta beat Dante. It looked like happily ever after, but during the whole thing I was thinking, "What about the Zenon guy?" And then he popped up. They won one battle only to be too weak to fight another and they lost the war despite their absolute best efforts. They tried their hardest but it all means nothing if they can't win in the end. And now our hero's future seems hopeless. And then the episode ends...
I've spent too long writing this review and I need to know what happens next. Anyway, Black Clover is a masterpiece and the best generic shounen and this episode is an easy ten by my standards. Anyone who hasn't caught up to Black Clover and thinks it sucks, catch up and say that to my face. This episode is proof of Black Clovers greatness. 10.0/10.
Black Clover: Captain Yami Sukehiro (2021)
What an episode
Yami got a whole slew of new attacks, Dante used his full power but Yami still held his own, and the animation went through another level up. This team is really putting their all into these episodes and I appreciate that. Thank you for the incredible episode. 9.9/10.
Black Clover: Battlefield: Heart Kingdom (2021)
It was good
But nowhere near what came before. We had some cool matchups and the appearance of vanica but overall it was just good when compared with the monsters that came before. Still great episode. Exicted for what comes next.
Black Clover: Dante vs The Captain of the Black Bulls Squad (2021)
First half 9.9 second half 9.5
The first part of this episode was incredible. From the gray flashback to asta getting beat despite his best efforts. Then Yami came in and slapped around Dante like it was nothing. Incredible. The second half while not as good was still really good and showed off lucks new move. Another incredible episode 9.7.
Black Clover: The Great War Breaks Out (2021)
Didn't think it would get better again
But dang I would be lying if I didn't say this one was even better. In the last one all of golden dawn gets destroyed and half of them die. In this one the despair and fear continue with asta getting destroyed and gauche getting stabbed. And then he went berserk, and after all of his work he landed one small scratch but it isn't satisfying because we know that he is being played and controlled by Dante and gave into his emotions of anger and anguish which sadly was the only way he could even land a scratch on him, not friendship. Easily a 9.9 out of ten for me. You guys need to watch Black Clover.
Black Clover: Zeno's Power (2021)
9.4! I'm offended
This is easily one of the greatest in the series. It's at least a 9.7. Their squad tried their hardest but in the end that got destroyed. Everyone but a few were destroyed by the underlings which never happens in any series. They were the strongest magic knights squad with at least a hundred members and two magic knights destroyed them without even trying. They couldn't do anything. With the combined efforts of Yuno, Klaus, and the girl with the compass magic(forget her name) they beat the two underlings but then they went against Zenon. Klaus, and the girl couldn't even lift a finger against him before being destroyed. William tried but Zenon beat him faster than any of us could ever expect. Yuno got beat by 55% of Zenon's power and he's not even the strongest of the dark triad. This episode shows us that Black Clover isn't afraid to get darker than black and bleaker than bleak. This is truly making me fear for what lies ahead. How could asta even manage to beat Zenon if Yuno couldn't beat him at 55?! I don't know but I can hope. Anyway Black Clover is a masterpiece now go watch it.
Boku no hîrô akademia (2016)
Has a lot of heart
That's the best way to describe My Hero Academia. It's not a perfect show by any means, but it is a good show that shows effort and care from the author. I think he really put a large effort into the manga and it shows in the anime. It's not groundbreaking or phenomenal but it is a fun enjoyable experience. I think it's biggest strength is the animation and music. They serve their purpose well and look and sound wonderful in harmony. You can't help but feel pumped when watching Deku punch the villain in the face with you say run in the background. While I love the individual tracks of Bnha that doesn't mean I think the soundtrack's perfect. It just does what it has to which is get you pumped. Like I said before, isn't groundbreaking. In terms of animation this show has the best in terms of raw looks, but in terms of choreography it kind of just goes down to who has the bigger punch instead of intelligent strategies and while I think it has some of that it's not like Naruto's crazy martial arts inspired fights or Black Clover's intelligent battle system. In terms of characters they're good but sometimes it spends too long just doing filler crap and it loses the goodness of the character. Also I feel like most characters get developed once and then are never touched on again, but I can understand because there are so many characters. In terms of story it's kind of generic but it's fine and it definitely has some character building moments. Overall good show 7.3/10.
Black Clover: The Final Attack (2020)
Wow!
Now black clover for me was always the most enjoyable generic shounen anime. But now it's easily the best one. It's high points hit hard especially this one. Yami's attack was hype, and Asta's transformation was insanely hype. Especially the end. The enemy is beat. It felt impossible but they made it through and it was no plot armor.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Savagery (2021)
I won't take a point off for the CGI
But it's not ignorable. Most people who have been around the season four controversies have probably heard people complaining about "the poor CGI". I was on the side that thought they were overreacting and being annoying. The CGI was a lot better than previous seasons and actually looked pretty good, but for some reason today it looked worse than usual. I'm not trying to hate, I actually loved the episode but that one part was kind of annoying to watch. Anyways besides that this is the most emotional episode that has been put out so far and my favorite.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Children of the Forest (2021)
Best episode of season four
One thing I notice about Attack On Titan is the abundance of ratings each episode gets. On average it gets 12,600 ratings per episode easily surpassing Rick and Morty which is arguably the most popular animated show in the west. Another thing I notice is the insanely high ratings it gets. It easily has the most episodes with a 9.9 and up, and the highest season of all time and another in the top four (with arithmetic mean). However I feel that the best episodes are always the ones that get less appreciation. Namely Midnight Sun (9.9 and 25k ratings)from season three is better than Hero (10.0 and 57k ratings) which is the one everyone talks about. I feel that the non action episodes tend to be underrated. Anyway, my point is Children Of The Forest as of writing this review is the best episode of season four. The emotions and themes are so strong and compelling, the characters are so fleshed out and well written, and Eren casually walking over to the table was an insane plot twist that only the manga readers and galaxy brains could see coming. This episode is an underrated masterpiece in aot that everyone should appreciate more. (Side note: I have not watched savagery or the one after can't remember the name)
Kimetsu no Yaiba: Hinokami (2019)
I mean it's good but not 100/10
Animation wise: 9/10. Beautiful animation but not the most inventive in terms of choreography.
Character: 9/10: it was the best the series has had in my opinion.
Story: 9/10. Really cool thought out story.
Music: 10/10. Phenomenal music.
Overall I thought this was the best episode and it captures a lot of the themes demon slayer uses. A bit overrated but still a phenomenal episode. One of the best of 2019.
Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu: Love Me Down to My Blood and Guts (2021)
Yeah I'm an aot fan.
But I didn't lower the rating. In fact I kind of turned off my phone and raged when I saw it go down. For an actual review the episode is phenomenal. The fights for this episode were surprisingly good. The animation quality went up a lot. I could swear this is where all the budget went. Ram pretty much dying was scary, and Emilia's trial kind of took me off guard. Garfiel vs Elsa was one of the best battles this year and I love it. Anyway, go watch it if you haven't caught up already.
Black Clover (2017)
The best generic shounen
At first I was extremely skeptical about this show and it's quality. I kept seeing a bunch of troupes and repeating plot lines from previous better shounen. But then episode 49 rolled around. The animation got way better and the story and characters had been very refined. At this point I was intrigued and kept watching. I watched up until the black Asta reveal, and decided to take a break from shounen. Recently I returned to it and binged from episode 67-101 as of today and I can say with surety that this is the peak of generic shounen. Forget One Piece the pacing is crap and it drags after a while. Forget Naruto the filler and last few arcs sucked. Forget bleach, it sucked after the first two arcs. Forget My Hero Academia it's incredibly overrated and is just cool animation with no actual choreography. It has heart, but isn't a masterpiece. But Black Clover fixes all these problems. The pacing is great, the fillers are few and generally skippable it doesn't have the animation levels of My Hero but it has better choreography, and it has superior characters to all of these shows. This show is a gem in all of shounen that should be watched by anyone who likes shounen. People always say that new anime sucks, but that is way too biased. This is shounen right here and you can't say anything to change that. Watch this if you have time. Not to put down other shounen, but Black Clover gets a lot of undeserved hate, and it really is at least for me the greatest generic shounen of all time.
