A change for Brosnan!
8 August 2006
This was a complete change and departure from anything Brosnan has played in the past. If you are a Pierce fan it is worth seeing just to see the diversity, if not it is only a middle of the road film. It's a twisted comedy with good solid performances and was much better for Greg Kinnear that the flop comedy "stuck on you".Greg Kinnear and Pierce work well together and it was a good character for Gred Kinnear. But the film is lacking in a stronger storyline and more clever humor. It's a good premise and a really good attempt; not a bad watch for a night you'd llke to rent a video but not up to par with actually going to the theatre to see it. Can't wait to see what Pierce tries next!

Swept into the garbage
27 July 2006
Warning: Spoilers
A film has to be really bad for me to write a bad review and this one is really bad. I have nothing against Madonna and I enjoy many of Guy Richie's films but this was an obvious sign that while they may work well as marriage partners they do NOT work well in film-making. Madonna's acting was without any merit (it was horrible), her character was hokey and the nude scenes of Madonna were so flippantly thrown in that they weren't even a good distraction from the poor acting. The scenes themselves were badly spliced together, the cinematography was neutral and the storyline dragged on without a solid purpose. If you want to see a cute and popular version of this kind of film see "Overboard" with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. It's a bit dated but it has all of the elements that are missing from Swept Away and shows a couple who work well together.

Are you Serious?
27 July 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This was by far one of the worst films ever made. Money definitely should have been spent on some acting lessons. The plot was needing of well ANYTHING and there was no chemistry between the actors. There was a lot of things being blown up… unfortunately none of them was the film itself. Cindy Crawford is of course a beautiful center piece but her acting is so strained there is no emotional connection with her acting partners or with the audience. Baldwin also bombed in having any kind of real or believable connection with his scene partners. I actually walked out of this movie because it was so painful. Some really good films would be Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo in the "Thomas Crown Affair" or a more comical film like "True Lies"

Must See!
27 July 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of those perfect, all-around well made films. The script was so well written there was no drawn out segments used to bridge one part of the film to another. The storyline flowed flawlessly. The cinematography was clean and maintained dramatic tone without unnecessary effects. The actors performances were outstanding Robin Williams is both believable and sympathetic in his role as a good-hearted psychologist with a sensitive past. He earned every inch of that Oscar. Matt Damon also gave a brilliant performance as the damaged genius whose quick comments and fast thinking has the audience laughing when they least expect it. The math professor was a scene stealer and it's a wonder why he hasn't appeared in more known films.

Brilliant Lesson in Documentary Film-making!
27 July 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Bravo! As a documentary this is the cookie-cutter outline of how a historical documentary should be made. The film evenly moves through the history of World War II and the kinder transport. The child refugees tell their stories as period footage takes the audience through their experiences. The cinematography, editing and storytelling are so well done is one of those documentary films that has to be seen to be appreciated. If you are an aspiring documentary filmmaker this is one of the films you should watch and analyze, even if the storyline is not your kind of topic. I looked up the filmmakers and found that one of them is an instructor at UCLA, that was fascinating because a lot of times the instructor can NOT make a good film but this one shows he definitely has skills!

A Classic!
27 July 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Still a classic. The acting is superb, the editing and storyline outstanding. This film is one of the best performances of both John Malkovich and Glenn Close. Glenn close plays a manipulative and cunning upper class woman bent on manipulating everyone around her and John Malkovich is her twisted equal. Everything in this film was Oscar caliber. The cinematography blends breathtaking scenery with dramatic intensity, the editing is flawless and has mastery removed any distracting moments (which could have unnessarily lengthened the film)and the acting was the best work of every single cast member. Uma Thurman may have topped her performance in Les Miseables but for everyone else this was truly their swan song. See this MOVIE!

Worth Seeing
27 July 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I did not think I was going to like this film but was surprised to have been drawn into a very human side of terrorism and revenge. Possible spoiler+++++The story brings forward how the path of revenge leads to unexpected consequences and becomes an inescapable interlocking of fates. The main characters are never the same once they have started to kill and the cycle of revenge finds them in a fight for their own emotional and physical lives. It is a very profound lesson in what unseen consequences can result when feeding hate. Unlike similar films, the bloodshed was not overdone and appropriate to the scenes The film definitely needed to be cut down but worth seeing.
