Tenet (2020)
10/10
Film Review: Tenet
10 October 2020
Tenet is a good film. It is packed with action, and is only meant for people who can understand complicated and twisted plotlines. The acting is great, the plotline is great, the tension is great. I wasn't expecting Tenet to be this damn good! Some people don't like it and I'm okay with that, but I'm saying I enjoyed it. The cast was chosen well, and it paid off. Christopher Nolan is a genius! I'd say 10+ as it is quite intense, but nothing too bad. 10/10.

Joker (I) (2019)

Film Review: Joker
7 February 2020
Having watched this last night, I am in a trance. This film was absolutely brilliant, but it is not for the faint hearted. Joaquin Phoenix does the best Joker we've seen since The Dark Knight and he must receive Best Actor for this. This film is not so gory it should be an 18, but it is particularly gory. In one scene, a man is stabbed with scissors and his head is bashed against a wall. The aftermath is disgusting. Strong language occurs throughout the film. Beware, this is NOT a superhero movie. This film is about mental health and it is not in any way about the DC universe. Even my dad liked it, and that's saying something.

Film Review: Diego Maradona
2 February 2020
This is the only documentary I have ever enjoyed. Normally I find documentaries really boring. I WANT THE ACTION! I'M NOT AT SCHOOL, AM I? I found this documentary really entertaining, as it is about something I actually like: football. This director has previously made Senna and Amy. I saw Senna and I wasn't interested. But I saw this and I enjoyed it. It really went into depth about his life and his background, and I was fascinated. There is blood when they talk about his ankle injury for Barcelona, and when they talk about the Mafia. Those parts are particularly gory. There Is plenty of swearing, and only 2 sentences are spoken in English, meaning the rest has subtitles. 9/10.

Film Review: The Personal History of David Copperfield- Based on the novel by Charles Dickens
25 January 2020
The Personal History of David Copperfield is the brand new film by Armando Iannucci. It is superb! I expected it to be a not-so-good comedy, with poor acting and a storyline which doesn't quite work, when in reality it is a brilliant film. There is once scene of bloood, in which blood is spread around a man's body. All we can really see is stains, but you can see it for a mere 4 minutes. Swearing is not a problem if that is what you are worried about, as childish insults are used instead of full blown swearing, the very opposite of Armando Iannucci's The Thick of It. In one scene, it is implied that a man has beat a boy. This is very shocking. 9/10.

Film Review: Who Framed Roger Rabbit
25 January 2020
Even though the title has poor grammar, the film itself is decent. It made me uncomfortable in some places as a female toon easily seduces human males, and the whole film is basically her being a man magnet. The film has fantastic animation, making it look (not entirely but nearly) like the cartoons are with humans. There is your comedic slapstick violence scattered around the film, but if you are scared of your children seeing that then you need to grow up. Who Framed Roger Rabbit is family fun for everyone. 8/10.

Forrest Gump (1994)

Film Review: Forrest Gump- based on the novel by Winston Groom
19 January 2020
Forrest Gump is wonderfully wonderful film. It is based around a man and his struggles with life, told by a man on a park bench. Forrest Gump has mild nudity, with brief views of the front and the behind of females. Swearing is scattered all over the film, but it is nothing to worry about. A man touches a woman's breast, but nothing is shown. 9/10.

Jojo Rabbit (2019)

Film Review: Jojo Rabbit
12 January 2020
Taika Waititi directs this dark comedy. The amazingly funny film revolves around a little boy who thinks he's a nazi, but finds a girl living in his walls, and he might be wrong about his choice of politics. Jojo Rabbit has a couple of gruesome images, including a bloody hand and a graphic wound on Hitler's head. There are a few swear words, including the f word right at the end. There are no scary scenes, but there are a few intense scenes. Some scenes are severely depressing.

Film Review: The Addams Family (2019)
3 January 2020
For you movie lovers, DON'T WATCH THIS FILM. The original Addams Family films were funny, dark in places, and showed a loving family, happily killing eachother off in a gloomy way. But the new Addams Family is bright, colourful, and has acting that nobody likes. It is a children's animation film, so there is no sign of blood. The film surprisingly has no sex, but there is mention of the act. No swearing is including in the film, only words 5 year old children would watch. But the film is funny in places, and has some good scenes that save the film, but the characters have changed and that upsets me. 7/10.

12 Angry Men (1957)

Film Review: 12 Angry Men
3 January 2020
Well done, director! 12 Angry Men is a superb courtroom drama, the sort of thing that turns your mind into a rubix cube. It is about the jury, and their road to deciding whether a teenager is guilty or not guilty. As it is in black and white, I cannot see any blood and I doubt there is any. Swearing is a rare occasion, and sex is a no-go. You can practically watch 12 Angry Men with a baby in the room. 12 Angry Men is superb. It is a film that can bring music to somebody's ears (no not literally.) This film is amazing, so I highly reccomend it. 10/10.

Film Review: The Adventures of Tintin
3 January 2020
The Adventures of Tintin is beautiful. Its CGI brings this film to life, as it looks exactly like a live-action film. This film has incredibly loud scenes, including the crashing of water or the sirens of a boat, or even a few scenes including shouting. But those aren't worrying. There is no blood in the film, just brilliant acting and animation but there are scenes of alchoholism. There is a captain on a boat who is addicted to whisky. There are several bottles of whisky on the floor, and you can see the liquid round his face. Tintin is an amazing, beautiful, spectacular, brillaint film and it is one of my favourite films of all time. 10/10.

Shazam! (2019)

Film Review: Shazam!
3 January 2020
Shazam! is an okay film. It is not great, but it does come with the occasional serious battle scene. Shazam! is mainly for kids, as there is the unfunny joke or comment that only kids would find funny, but there are also a few adult jokes snuck in there. Shazam! is about a foster kid, who lives in a foster house. One day, he escapes from some bullies and gets the chance to be a superhero. He accepts, leaving the rest of the film to be about his superhero and private life. But is it family friendly? There are a few swear words, scary scenes and tiny drops of blood but apart from that Shazam! is fine to watch. The scary scenes involve CGI monsters attacking humans. 7/10.

Jurassic Park (1993)

Film Review: Jurassic Park
2 January 2020
Jurassic Park is the only great one out of the five Jurassic films (or six if you are reading this after Jurassic World 3.) It is full of good CGI, like the other ones, and actually good action and acting. There is a tiny bit of blood as well as Samuel L. Jackson being angry (which we all know ends up in dinosaur attacks) and there is jump scares. It is scary. A venomous dinosaur sprays poison at a fat man, dinosaurs eat people and dinosaurs roar. That is very loud. The rest is fun, family stuff so I suggest you watch it. 10/10.

The Lion King (2019)

Film Review: The Lion King (2019)
2 January 2020
The Lion King.... oof. The Lion King original was fantastic, a musical that had decent music, animation that was outstanding, drama, betrayal, romance and the greatest characters Disney have ever made! But the new Lion King is a word for word remake, different actors making the acting worse, CGI making it feel like we are in a computer (which is good) and the same action as the original. It's just that the original was so perfect that nobody wanted this to happen. But it was okay. If you have seen the original Lion King you know the action that is about to go down, and you are just waiting for the CGI. But those who haven't are waiting for a brand new story. There is mild threat and child's strong language but those aren't worrying. The only thing that is worrying is the acting. 8/10.

Film Review: Sunshine on Leith- Based on the Music by The Proclaimers
2 January 2020
Sunshine on Leith is a very meh film. It has basically no ending, the songs are awfully sung and out of tune, the characters are god awful at acting (except for George McKay) and every time a song comes on you think: "What are they going to ruin now?" But the storyline is decent. The drama is alright, I mean there could be more but it's basically a Scottish Mamma Mia. In one scene, it is quite obvious that somebody is going to have sex, and a main character has the same bedsheets as me. 7/10.

Film Review: Yesterday- Based on Music by The Beatles
2 January 2020
Yesterday was an alright film. The film is set in Suffolk, and everyone has forgotten the Beatles except Jack. Jack copies their songs, and becomes a worldwide sensation, but love is breathing down his neck. Yesterday stores your favourite Beatles songs, and the awful Ed Sheeran. There are a few swear words in this film, as well as a few strange scenes, but those are not something to worry about. Yesterday is family friendly and a good film. 8/10.

Film Review: Coraline- Based on the Book by Neil Gaiman
2 January 2020
Coraline is a children's horror film. Trust me, it is scary. Coraline is a stop-motion horror adventure, where people in a different dimension are kidnapping handmade dolls; the creepiest things children have ever seen. Coraline's animation is more than brilliant, and I suggest you watch it. If your children are sensitive, this will terrify them, so don't watch it with them. Coraline is fantastic. 9/10.

Film Review: Toy Story 4
30 December 2019
I waited 9 years for this film! 9 years! Toy Story 4 was disappointing. Yeah, it was good, but it was nothing like Toy Story 3. This family film is about Forky, a new toy, who abandons the gang and Woody goes to find him. But they think they have found Bo Peep, Woody's old love interest. Toy Story 4 has the best animation out of the full quadrilogy and loveable characters. Toy Story 4 is suitable for all the family. 8/10.

Film Review: Hot Fuzz
30 December 2019
Hot Fuzz is an amazingly funny film. It is about two police officers on the trail of a murderer. It is very gruesome, but it is gory in a funny way. Hot Fuzz has great actors playing funny parts. There are innuendos along the way but those are not harmful. Hot Fuzz will give you constant laughs, but it is DEFINITELY not for children. Unless you think your child can handle it, do not show this to your children of under 13. 10/10.

Film Review: Raiders of the Lost Ark
15 December 2019
Raiders of the Lost Ark is the first Indiana Jones film (followed by the Temple of Doom and the Last Crusade) and it is by far the best. Yes, the other two are amazing, but the origin of Indiana Jones can not be beaten. Read the parents guide for details on gore, because there is a particularly bloody scene. The first adventure that Indiana Jones embarks on is amazing and is for all the family (if you can deal with planes.) I suggest that you buy this now, because Harrison Ford is full of gold! 10/10 Written by Sam Milne

Film Review: Blade Runner- Based on the book by Phillip K. Dick
15 December 2019
Blade Runner is a classic action and sci-fi film that will blow anybody away. Harrison Ford is an amazing cop and is a great main character. Based on the novel by Phillip K. Dick, Blade Runner has all the action you have been looking for, and an amazing end fight scene. The acting is superb and although it is not for children, parents can enjoy all the Harrison Ford they want, and not if your car is named Harrison. Watch Blade Runner now. 10/10. Written by Sam Milne
