Catagory III dont get much better!
4 May 2002
My favorite catagory III film PERIOD!! if you like gore/sex/violence and plenty of twisted humour then this is for you...Anthony Wong is fantastic as the most degrading character in film history, i mean this guy does it all and then some. For the weak of heart and easily offended i would stay well clear, but for the more open minded and exploitation fans YOU WILL LOVE THIS...go get it NOW.

Korean slasher yarn!
25 February 2002
First off i would like to say that this movie didnt deserve the catagory III tag, which usually involves alot of sex and violence...but in this case fails miserably. A fairly routine slasher flick that borrows from alot of other movies of the genre but doesnt really elaborate or improve on them. The main problem i had with the movie was that the chase and suspense scenes just seemed to fail, the tension build up was let down by VERY predictable and silly scare tactics. The acting was pretty awful all around despite some pretty female cast members! well theres some eye candy at least. The main story centered around a `I Know What You Did Last Summer` scenario about a prank that goes horribly wrong and is covered up by the protagonists...then some time later they start getting stalked by a masked maniac who offs most of them before the final showdown and twists...`Scream` anyone??? a few fairly neat ideas, like the hand held camera inserts and the masked killer with supernatural abilities i.e. being in 2 places at once and always being one step ahead of the victims..just dont really save this from another `run of the mill` and routine asian slasher....4/10 from me!

Vanilla Sky (2001)
Thought Provoking and Spellbinding!
1 February 2002
After reading so many different opinions about this movie i finally decided to go and see it for myself. I was absolutely blown away by this clever and highly intelligent piece of cinema with a truly fantastic ending that left me moved and stunned, if a film can provoke this many feelings then it has to be good!...i didnt have any trouble understanding the plot it was quite clear if you watched closely and paid attention, kinda reminds me of a cross between `Mulholland Dr` and `Total Recall` Certainly an ambitious project, which definately payed off and sets itself apart from many conventional hollywood movies standing out as a must see film for lovers of intelligent and thought provoking cinema . Beautifully shot and edited and all performances were truly captivating...10/10 loved every minute!!!

Down to Earth (2001)
You can keep it!
24 January 2002
Having spent £3.00 on renting this i must admit i do feel somewhat robbed...I havent ever seen or heard of Chris Rock before and after sitting through an hour or so of this i doubt whether i will ever hear of him again (certainly not by choice)..i have to add that this statement may be rather biased because of the fact that this is the only vehicle ive seen of his and im sure his stand up shows are in a class of their own. Personally theres nothing i could recommend to anyone in this movie..it really didnt make me laugh, it quite frankly bored me...the guy was very irritating and acting is certainly not his strongpoint as with the rest of the cast...to say this movie had a spark of originality is too leanient and its not often i dont watch a whole film but i didnt make it past the 1 hour mark. When i watch a comedy its for pure entertainment and something to raise my spirits, this certainly didnt do it for me...the plain and basic fact was it just wasnt funny!! a comedy failure 2/10

Video Nasty Glory
24 January 2002
Island of Death...what can i say, made as pure exploitation and probably as perverse and as sick as you could possibly expect...its certainly a wild and somewhat entertaining ride! Likely to offend most especially girlfriends and mothers...if thats not a reason to track it down then i dont know what is!! if your looking for a decent plot or character development then go watch something else, this is pure nasty shocking film making at its exploitative best! 10/10 for nasty lovers 2/10 for mainstream audiences!

Without a doubt a masterpiece!
15 January 2002
Easily the best film ive seen all year, in fact i would go as far to say that its one of the best movies ive ever seen period! Being a David Lynch fan i had high expectations and this exceeded that and then some, i was scared, mesmorized and truly exhilarated by the end of the film...and then it has been in my mind ever since. 10/10 from me Mr.Lynch will have to do DAMN good to better this *wow*

A delirious and twisted sequel
16 September 2001
What more can i say , im a category III fan and this was the follow up to one of the most well known and sleazy movies of its kind! For those of you who are squeamish or offended easily then you probably shouldnt read on... This sequel is actually a whole lot better and more fun than i expected with some truly despicable torture scenes which are pure fantasy of course!!..im not that depraved!! Quite a good plot which you cant often say in these types of movies, but actually less sleaze than the original, but what it lacks in this department it sure makes up for in cruelty!...dismemberment, sodomy , horrific torture and blood a plenty flow after the 30 minute mark with some humour thrown in for good measure, one scene that really disturbed me was a flashback to a childhood abuse scenario intercut with a vicious rape with a paintbrush!!...personally i preferred the original, but this is a whole lot better than i imagined and well worth seeing if your a fan of extreme/catagory III cinema, since when is bad taste illegal?? =^,^=

Fast paced gory fun
16 September 2001
Definately a late night movie, but Lenzis ridiculous masterpiece always leaves me shell shocked after a viewing, usually with laughter! The element i did like was the fact that the zombies are sure fast and seem to get everywhere, so there really is no escape...some of the gore is great and some of it is abismal!! dont even get me started on the acting or the script..lol But this is one of my favorite mad cap horror movies in the so bad its actually genious department alongside Bianchi`s Zombie 3..Fantastic 8/10 P.S i love the scene where the heroine is more interested in changing her clothes than fleeing from the deadly zombies!

Spiral (2000)
Weird , surreal and original
8 September 2001
Hmmmm..being a lover of japanese cinema i just had to get my hands on a version of this movie, and on my way through chinatown i managed to find a nice DVD which i hurried home and put into my player not knowing quite what to expect!! The whole style of the camera shots in the movie appear to be filmed through some kind of dark green filter which gives the film a dreamy nightmarish quality, i guess thats how i would describe it..the whole film is just like a nightmare except you know you cannot wake up from it until its over. Lots of weird camera shots and a total mind f*ck of a plot leave you deliriously spinning towards that vortex!! Didnt know what to think about it after it had finished, i can remember not being totally excited by what i had seen but at the same time i cannot think of another movie like it, and it made me think about it alot for a long time after...so i guess it must have had an impression in my subconsious somewhere down the line...maybe i should watch it again, certainly not a bad movie..kinda like David Lynch Jap style, with lots of spirals and snails??!! check it out.

Audition (1999)
Sinister and surreal!
20 July 2001
Audition is a very well crafted, superbly directed and ingeniously edited piece of cinema. Set mainly in the city its sinister undertones begin to eat away at you after the first 30 minutes or so when we first meet the deranged Asami. Dont expect the film to be action and gore packed like other catagory III examples.. the way it builds its tension and the macarbe/shocking ending is handled very intelligently and made more of an impact on me than any gore soaked bloodbath ever could! I urge you to see this film..in a way it reminds me of `The Ring` which also has a slowish pace but really hooks you and doesnt let go until the disturbing climax which WILL make anyone squirm believe me! Although there are alot of unanswered questions its very thought provoking and will `stick in` your mind for a long time..hehe "stick IN" excuse the pun, but your just gonna have to watch it to understand =^,^= happy (or not so happy *cackle*) viewing.

Not a forgetable experience
8 June 2001
Had heard alot of comments about the film before i saw it and it pretty did live up to alot of the things that some people said. I honestly thought that is was a stupid to say that they used real corpses in the making of this film...but now ive actually watched it im beginning to reserve judgement on that score! This is japans answer to the death camp movies of the late 70`s and early 80`s...alot of the story is complete fabrication but im sure some of it has occurred throughout history as its a very cruel world sometimes especially in the grip of world war frenzy. It certainly has a documentary feel to it just the way its structured..and some gruelling scenes of torture and depravity, which is what they wanted you to see!..some may argue for historical value, it has to be seen...but the bottom line is its blatant exploitation and thats what people want to see in this type of movie..i doubt whether anyone watched it for historical purposes..just to be sickened and shocked!...i guess its quite strong stuff, but like most death camp movies your going to expect that kinda thing...ive watched most of them and i would say this is pretty high on the gross out list, as you dont really get a chance to cathc your breath as torture scenes and abuse picture quite readily throughout the 104 minutes..the way the filmmakers make you feel sympathetic towards some of the characters and then slaughter them is quite unnerving really and possibly the most shocking aspect of the movie..apart from the animal cruelty which is shamless and unforgivable, i mean if the cat wasnt enough...the amount of live rats that had petrol poured over them and set alight at the end of the film is just plain sick and shouldnt happen in any kinda movie! well the whole point of the film is to leave a bad taste in your mouth and i guess this works very well at that..just dont go rushing out to your local blockbusters to get a copy of this...i doubt whether or not this will ever get released here in the uk. Like most other extreme japanese titles this takes some beating in terms of subject matter and the way its handled...worth watching??..ermmm you decide if watching abuse and torture is your kinda thing then dive in!..but if you like cats i really wouldnt go there!

Bleak, Graphic and Wince Inducing!
9 May 2001
Easily the most disgusting, bleak, sexually/violent and graphic movie i have seen yet. Very disturbing and not exactly my idea of entertainment in any sense, i was intrigued about watching this when i read some of the other comments, but i really wasn't prepared for what i was about to be subjected to!...you have been warned =^,^>

Hannibal (2001)
And it started so well!
22 February 2001
Having been saving my hard earned money for this unmissable cinema extravagence i was little to say totally besotted for the first hour of this film...(despite Gary Oldmans comedic overacting) only to be totally devastated by the second half. For what started off well..dark , atmospheric and well acted developed into a crummy non- Psychological farce which had me nearly rolling around and laughing...tears of joy?? NOT tears of absolute disbelief!!...Ridley Scott ( as talented director as he is) managed to capture the first half of the story in Italy very well and Lectors character was darkly intelligent and impressive as i had hoped...good start me thinks! After Lector had escaped and ended up back in the USA things really took a turn for the worse...gone was all the intelligence and the last half of the film seemed to me to have been rushed and made into a comedy horror film! with Lector cracking jokes and ridiculous torture scenes...its totally apparent that the film is never gonna live up to the book but i had high hopes for this sequel and for the first hour i wasnt disappointed..its a shame it didnt stick through to the (unintentionally funny) ending =^,^>
