The Winter King (2023)
Better than the book
Let's be honest shall we. The book wasn't really that good. So going into this with an open mind and not foolishly expecting this to be "The Last Kingdom" or anything and judging purely on it's own merit, I found it to be enjoyable. Furthermore, if you were going to compare it to the book. I also found it to be a fair amount better. Some really detestable characters in the book were in fact changed to be more palatable and thank goodness they did. The young man of the cloth Samson comes to mind. In the book he is a greedy ,hateful, judgmental, manipulative, disgusting ahole, that frequently referred to Arthur's man as a "hell spawn" just for his pagan beliefs. In the tv show he is portrayed as a level headed trustworthy religious man... just an example. And well good then...i have no problem with careful and considerate changes like these that breathe new life into a very par/sub-par book, transforming the story into something worthwhile.
I just finished watching episode 7 and can't wait to watch the rest, even though I already know what happens. When it comes to adaptations, it's not often you get to feel that way. I for one, am all for ITVX's The Winter King. Hate the haters.
Professionals (2020)
Take it for what it is? Not made by professionals
But then why would anyone put themselves through this or want to? There's really no good enough reason to do so unless you truly hate yourself. Brandon Frazier needs to stick to roles from such favorites as the "Dummy" for which he is well suited for. Additionally, it's obvious this was heavily sponsored by the Antonio Banderas gifted school of acting. But when i here such justifications like "it's not that bad" you're right, but it is that terrible. The tense moments with the cheesy synthesizes keyboard goes so poorly with the rest of the score, it mixes as if oil and water could make sound. Bad!
Mountain Devil 2 (2022)
Apparently nothing to do with bigfoot
I dedicated an entire 30 minutes to suffering through this boring account only to find out the documentary is not even about bigfoot. Instead, the narrator repeatedly asks the question 'who is the author of the book titled The Creature'? Which is a first hand account of alleged encounters with bigfoot. They go on and on speculating who the author could be. So in short, the documentary ends up never even talking about bigfoot, only mentioned as an afterthought in regards to how bigfoot is described in the book. Suffice to say, it is a round about way to make a documentary that is supposedly centered around this mythical creature, and yet, it isn't. In other words, 30 minutes proved much too long to spend watching/listening to this garbage.
The Batman (2022)
Long boring and lacking substance
To rate this above a 7/10, is criminal activity Batman himself ought to investigate. I enjoyed this 2022 Batman somewhat but only in parts. I liked the cast a great deal and all the characters but some of the performances suffered due to poor and often times cringe worthy lines and reactions. Batman actually doing research and detective work was a change of pace and could have added something positive to the film but it just made it more boring. The lead was given long moments of self reflection through narration, and again (boring), the movie missed the mark and desired effect because it was either poorly timed or overly used. I really wanted to love the heck out The Batman 2022 but, it sucked pretty hard. The Nolan Trilogy was far and away a cut above this in every way possible.
One Shot (2021)
Disturbing low score
People rating this 1 star ought to stop breathing. No movie this good deserves such harsh treatment. Your shallow petty opinions are unwarranted/unwanted, get the f k out! Numb nuts claiming the movie doesn't make sense because the truck was too small to transport so many terrorists? Really, THAT'S your issue!? Comon people. How do you think the truck got on the island you morons. "They" clearly mention, in dialogue, a transport boat making regular scheduled stops to this island which was commandeered and infiltrated by the terrorists. This was not shown on camera but the implications are there. Pay attention next time. Now as for expectations, this movie blew the ceiling through the roof!!! I don't remember a movie pulling you in so intensely since i watched Hardcore Henry without ever knowing anything about it. Only, this was much better and flowed very well. I would go as far as to put this on par with such greats as Tenet or even Inception. Every moment in this movie is well timed. The level of difficulty to pull this off, is just staggering. The gunfire and skirmishes were believable and intense, the fight sequences were top notch - amazing choreography, especially towards the end with the last man standing including the end fight. Just wow! The entire cast was good and the acting was excellent in which every actor played their part well. There's simply not enough good things to say about Oneshot except maybe it could have used a better name, as is, it sounds a bit cheesy. Then again, it's easy to remember and after watching Oneshot, I'll certainly not forget it any time soon. Keep em coming Scott and ignore the ignorant haters.
Blade Runner: Black Lotus (2021)
Underrated on the IMDb by the unofficial Hate Squad
If you like the blade runner universe and sci Fi in general, then you will most certainly enjoy Blade Runner: Black Lotus. It won't even be a question you need to ask yourself. I watched Blade Runner as a young child and was blown away. Already having become a fan of watching Harrison Ford in Star Wars. Then later watched the second movie as an adult and loved that as much maybe more. This is difficult to follow in Japanese and the episodes are too short for my liking but that is not something to fault the show in it's entirety but this new installment in tv show format has some great moments delving back into the conflict between human and a.i. / cyborg aka replicant and all the layers that define what it is to be human, to have a soul or a a.i. Trying to be human with or w/out a soul. It makes you ponder these questions and ideas all the while delivering a fairly basic revenge plot from the replicant POV. There needs to be more shows like these as there is simply not enough. That's why this got made.
Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin (2021)
Original....Suspense....Welldone!
That's right folks, this movie, Paranormal:Next of Kin is none of these things. In fact, I almost want to say it reminds me of another amazing movie from way back....something like Ware Blitch or something or other, I think you know what movie this movie is trying hard to imitate. And that is all it is. Just a very poor copy of a not much better movie that come out before this one. Oh what fun, oh wait....no.
Doors (2021)
Beware of glowing reviews
There's no conspiracy, there's no crusade against this movie..it just plain sucks. Gaad forbid we might have some actual standards. This is just single door of a low budget low quality movie in a halfway full of mediocrity, nothing more. To add to the monotony, there's the obnoxious commentary of a radio station broadcast complaining about the current state of things ad-nauseam post alien contact/invasion. Completely pointless and utterly boring. Avoid unless you desperately need sleep, you'll be snoring within the first 5 minutes.
Solitary (2020)
Misfire
The title of the film is solitary, that in itself would imply being by ones self and yet the main character is a mate throughout the miserably boring entire first 20 minutes that I could endure. It should have instead been titled misfire, as the film consistently misses the mark in all things film related, plot, premise, pace, acting, cinematography, score. It is of such low quality, one might confuse this with some flunky student film project. This is so poorly done, I'll have to make a mental note of the director and production as to hopefully avoid viewing such disaster. Sad to see so much garbage out there to the point it's becoming commonplace.
Jurassic Hunt (2021)
Amazing!
In fact, so amazed at how bad this is I couldn't get beyond 10 minutes. Make the right choice and just find something else to watch. Anything else.... Yea it's really that bad. 0/10 on all fronts. I gave it 1 stars for the incredibly original title.
A Dark Foe (2020)
Outstanding First class Thriller
Just kidding lol. Nothing but fake reviews endorsing their own garbage. "FBI freeze! Take the sunglasses off!!!" Bahaha omg this is such a cheesy incomprehensible mess. Just wow. 'Worst movie with the highest imdb score' should be in a category on its own.
Merlin (2008)
Remnants of a polished stool
Only in fantasy can masterpieces such as Game of Thrones would secular audience compare it to Merlin the toilet clogger. Propaganda train full speed ahead as demonstrated by the scores of glowing reviews. Thing is, you can polish stool all you want with 10/10s all day, it won't make it any less feces. A perfect example of the fact it is financially far easier to churn out mindless twaddle like this then it is to consistently put out quality content with complex characters and storylines, especially when the audience is all too eager to gobble it up in the name of consumerism disguised as "entertainment" . Hard pass on Merlin, if you can even call it that.
The Burning of Atlanta (2020)
Re-enactment with a synthesize
I've seen better acting from the local civil war reenactment group. The opening scenes was a pitiful display of the directors interpretative of what's written in the synopsis and does little if anything to realise it but to annoy the viewer with the same lame scenes on repeat coupled with a dreadful score. 6.1!? I don't think so
The Good Lord Bird (2020)
haters believe any excuse will do.
Criminally underrated! This is a 10 all day, at minimum a 9. When prejudice runs rampant any excuse will do. Plenty of examples right on imdb user review where more then half of these negative reviews exercise this school of thought. The overall score is indicative of that, the rating system is ment to judge a show on merit which under any other subject matter would have easily scored closer to 8 - 8.5. Just goes to show you how even though prejudices may be the minority, just how much of a negative impact can be felt. Obviously this is not a documentary on the life of John Brown, the show makes no such claims whatsoever and even goes so far as to say it's stretching the truth much right in the into. Scores of 3's and 5's on the sole basis it's historically inaccurate!? Comon now, that's all you got cause you can't admit it's about any other petty bs reason.
Intersect (2020)
InterSUCK
What a surprise, yet another amateur horror/scifi low budget film where all the overly positive reviews are either those that were directly involved in the project, bought and paid for by the publisher, or just outright fake. I found the review comparing this Tenet particularly far fetched yet amusing, cool story bro. This movie sucks, plain and simple.
The 2nd (2020)
Defying Logic
How is this rated 6.5!? Really? I enjoy Ryan Phillipe in a lot of films but this is completely unacceptable. Had no idea his acting career was at rock bottom as one would have to be to contract being the lead in this hot mess. This is so bad it doesn't even merit the rating of a B movie as it's straight up skid row. After 2minutes, I had seen enough, don't bother it ain't worth the bandwidth it's streaming on.
The Pale Door (2020)
Horror of Comedy? You decide
Why would you trust RLJE Films to begin with is the obvious question as this is clearly a low budget horror western. How this movie is above 4 stars, makes you wonder if it could pass as a mystery as well. Don't bother watching, you've likely seen the type alreadyI
