The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997)
How is this rated somewhat low??
Too many people comparing the movie to the first Jurassic Park. There is no comparison but it's still a great sequel.
If you've never had a chance to watch this one yet.. I won't spoil anything but don't listen to the people that pick apart little things rather than enjoy the movie.
It's a dinosaur movie, the cast is good and it's entertaining. That's all you need to know. Then watch the others as there isn't a bad movie in the series. I'd say the third movie is the low point but but still a decent movie.
The Lost World is a goofy but extremely entertaining sequel to a near perfect movie.
Godzilla (1998)
Far better than the modern Godzilla movies
This movie may be different than a typical Godzilla movie but it's still pretty good. I'm not sure why it's rated so low, it's easily one of the best science fiction action movies of the 90s after big ones like Jurassic Park 1 and 2 and Independence Day. Those kind of movies might've had better acting but watching this movie, it doesn't even make sense to need an Oscar worthy performance.
The effects were good for the time. I feel like people bash CGI like they're some experts on movie technology.
To make a long story short, watch this movie if you're into fun action movies and not the ones that are usually top rated because one actor or actress was convincing while being filmed in a beautiful location.
This movie is far from boring, even a little funny at times, the acting is absolutely fine and the plot is fine too. I wouldn't really look for small details that make no sense in a movie about a giant radioactive lizard. The 2014 reboot was boring for like 3/4 of the movie and the King of Monsters sequel was a lot better but still not as exciting as the 1998 version.
Again watch this if you enjoy movies, not documentaries or a hipster film praised for weird things.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Read most of the other reviews
While I wouldn't rank it as one of the worst movies of all time, definitely one of the worst superhero movies related to DC or Marvel.
I don't understand how the awesome first movie became this goofy mess of a sequel.
No doubt the comics related to this time period for Wonder Woman make more sense and are much better but the movie didn't explain very much for casual movie watchers.
Gal Gadot doesn't even seem that into it this time around. The overall acting is okay but nothing award worthy. The plot is just all over the place and even unbelievable at times, even for a superhero movie. It's not boring but definitely doesn't fully capture your attention. The movie isn't necessarily hard to follow but that's mostly because there isn't much to follow. I won't post any spoilers as there really isn't much more to say that wasn't in other reviews already.
If you have HBO Max I'd say the movie is worth watching if you don't have much else to watch and there has hardly been any good movies this year anyway. DC movies have really gone downhill between this and Harley Quinn this year. I still think the Christian Bale Batman trilogy is the only good series of movies related to DC. Man of Steel, Wonder Woman and Aquaman are all pretty good but overall the movies just don't compare to the quality of Marvel movies. Even the DC shows have all gotten stale after a while.
Also, the movie plays horribly on HBO Max regardless of what you play it on. Both buffering and quality. It was advertised as 4K with Dolby Atmos but regular HD shows like The Flight Attendant look better than this movie. I'm not sure if the movie itself looks better in theaters but even with the crappy quality, it doesn't seem like the effects overall were very well done especially for a sequel to a very successful movie.
The 100 (2014)
Amazing show early on but gets boring.
The first 4 seasons of this show are not only extremely interesting and a bit different from most shows of this genre, the acting is actually pretty good for a CW show.
The 5th season is where it starts to go downhill in my opinion. It starts to feel a bit stale, repetitive and characters get more annoying than anything.
The 6th season was better than the 5th but nowhere near as great as the first 4.
The 7th season just feels completely different from the rest of the show and episodes feel like filler episodes which is ridiculous considering it was the final season. The storyline is weird compared to the others and introduces some new characters but you just wind up not even being that interested in what happens.
You could probably just skip the final season altogether and read about it online as not much happens. Despite this, the first 4 seasons are absolutely worth watching and if you wind up liking it, the 5th and 6th seasons are still solid. I feel like this show could've continued longer with better storylines but by the last season it didn't even seem like the actors and actresses were that into it anymore.
Poketto monsutâ (1997)
Must watch if you're a fan of the games and/or cards.
I watched Pokemon when I was young when it was coming on TV in the US for the first time, getting into the cards and games around the same time. After watching the first three generations and being a teenager, I stopped watching. My wife and I watched it all from the beginning and still watching now with her previously only seeing the original season. Even as adults we still love the show. Episodes are short, simple and fun to watch. You see so much from the games but also much more, especially seeing the Pokemon on TV rather than acting the same in the games. I'll give spoiler free short reviews on each generation.
Kanto/1st Generation 10/10
Nostalgia plays a big part in that score of course but it's still the best. Between the characters, the storylines and the connections with the Pokemon it's awesome. Plus it's the start of the show with quite a few aspects of the season going into other seasons and the entire show. There's so many top moments for fans that come from this first season.
Orange Island League Spinoff 9/10
I think the best part of this season is the fact that it was all new content never in the video games. It was a very nice and fun spinoff inbetween the first two generations. It wasn't too long or too short either.
Johto/2nd Generation 9/10
This generation is an awesome follow up to the first. There's a lot of filler episodes but they're all pretty good. Great new Pokemon and my personal favorite region in the games. You also have to appreciate the fact that this was the last generation to have Brock and Misty at the same time traveling with Ash.
Hoenn/3rd Generation 8/10
Like the first two generations, this one has many good episodes and new Pokemon. Ash not having all 3 of the starter Pokemon for once was a nice change. The main female, Misty, is no longer traveling with the main character Ash. Brock is still here who is the other main character. May, the new female is a pretty good character overall. Her little brother Max can be annoying at times. Overall it's yet another good part of the show.
Battle Frontier spinoff 6/10
While the show itself doesn't change much, the voices change at some point for every character. It's a really strange change and takes a while to get adjusted to. Most of them are nowhere near as good and makes you feel like the season is a cheap knock off. While it may be a little unfair to give this season a lower score, it is when you have to get used to the changes. Otherwise the season itself is fine, some memorable moments but not as many as the Orange Islands spinoff.
Sinnoh/4th Generation 8.5/10
May and Max leave the show while we get a new female lead character in Dawn. She's a bit more interesting overall compared to May. There's not much to say about this generation other than it's very solid and it can be tough to choose if the previous was better or if this one was. While Ash's rival was a jerk (that's putting it nicely) he was probably Ash's biggest rival other than Gary.
Unova/5th Generation 4/10
Easily the worst Generation. Ash no longer travels with Brock but perhaps the biggest problem is his companions just aren't interesting. One of which is Iris who is the champion in the Black & White games. Not only is she not interesting like she is in the games, she can be pretty annoying at times. Cilan is the new male in place of Brock. He's sort of a knock off of Brock being both a gym leader and a good cook. He's just not that interesting and his constant random comparisons to food and cooking is weird and annoying. Ash's rival named "Trip" is also one of the weaker ones in the series. This is also the first generation where Team Rocket is non existent a lot of the time when it comes to the main characters. When they are shown, they're different and really strange even for them. Ash's team also consists of all 3 of the starters again for some odd reason despite not doing that in the previous two generations. The show picks up a little, even with Team Rocket towards the end of the generation.
Kalos/6th Generation 9/10
The best generation overall since Johto. Ash for the first time feels more like an adult than a kid. On top of that, his traveling friends are the best overall since Brock & Misty. Serena is a lot different from the games but not only has a great storyline of how she knows Ash, she just gradually becomes a stronger character. On top of that, she has a crush on Ash which he's basically oblivious to but it's a nice change to see on the show. Clemont is a solid traveling male character and doesn't feel like Brock at all. His little sister Bonnie is also far more interesting and less annoying than Max was in the Hoenn region. On top of that, Ash's connection with his Pokemon and the episodes are very good. Team Rocket wasn't in every episode but was involved a good amount, not too much and not too little.
Alola/7th Generation 5/10
This generation got put on Disney XD. While Pokemon is obviously mainly aimed at a younger audience, this generation was even more so. Which was disappointing considering the direction of the previous generation. Ash felt like he got even younger. While filler episodes are common in Pokemon, the Sun & Moon episodes had some pretty lame and weird ones. The art/animation was also the weirdest it had ever been. That being said there were some decent storylines and while Ash's team of Pokemon in whole this generation was possibly the smallest it had ever been, he had a good connection with them. Another problem was the lack of traveling and Ash staying in the same area most of the time. He had 5 other main companions this time which was a huge change. They were all decent but very different from the games. Team Rocket were pretty funny but usually did a lot of the same. While the direction and animation were strange, the overall feeling of these episodes being kind of lame, there was more to enjoy overall compared to the Unova episodes.
Current Series/Galar & other locations/8th Generation 7/10 (so far)
The good thing so far in the current generation of the show is that Ash doesn't feel as dumb as in the Sun & Moon generations and the overall art/animation is better on Netflix than it was on Disney XD. Ash doesn't travel like he has in past generations, instead which each episode taking him to different places and even different regions including Galar. His only traveling partner is Goh who is decent so far. How he catches so many Pokemon with no effort makes no sense. That being said, the amount of Pokemon being shown is pretty great. While it's awesome to see the new generation of Pokemon, it's also awesome to see some of the Pokemon from all other generations. Some of them ones that never had much time on the show. The fact that the show is the most different it's been compared to the latest games is strange but kind of works. So far it seems like a good idea showing Pokemon and the regions of new and old. Even Ash is getting a strong and different team of Pokemon compared to the start of most seasons, even if Goh has probably caught more Pokemon already than Ash has in every generation combined. Some better additional characters and Ash going against some of Galar's gym leaders would be nice to see. The battles have definitely been more common compared to Sun & Moon episodes.
Watch Pokemon!
Designated Survivor (2016)
Great show. 3rd season isn't great but doesn't ruin the show.
MINOR SPOILERS AFTER FIRST PARAGRAPH
This is one of the better shows over the last few years. Like a lot of other reviews say, the third season isn't anywhere near as good as the first two. How it ruined the show for some, I have no clue. Basically if you like action dramas, this show is easy to get into. The acting, especially Kiefer Sutherland, is very good. I'm not into politics but you really don't need to be to enjoy this show nor do you need to understand that much about it. The third season is worth watching but I can say it definitely is disappointing. The two biggest problems being that it only went one more season and got Netlix's lazy 10 episodes compared to the 20+ on regular TV. I don't know why people are giving 1 star or barely more than that based on 1/5 of the total episodes.. Now some minor spoilers below.
Kiefer Sutherland is sworn in as president. His position is absolutely nowhere near presidency but he was put as what's called the Designated Survivor due to basically everyone ahead of him being at the Capital Building (if I remember correctly on that exact detail) which gets blown up with no known survivors.
The show revolves around him and being an independent president, his family, his staff and real world problems. I don't want to say much without ruining any major details. The first season is non stop interesting and little to none when it comes to filler episodes or storylines.
Season 2 has some filler episodes with some things being resolved in the first season but overall still many interesting storylines and really no boring episodes.
So for the third season.. first off like I said before, no additional seasons and only 10 episodes make the show feel less important. The complaint about cursing is definitely valid. It's not constant or anything but it feels very out of place. No doubt there's probably cursing non stop in the White House but it didn't do anything for the show to go so long without F bombs to having them at least a few times per episode. It's almost like they discovered the words for the first time.
Another problem is a lot of characters are off of the show without an explanation. Another main character killed off near the end of the season from a character that was introduced briefly prior to that and all in just a somewhat interesting storyline. I'm assuming the ones off of the show probably didn't want to be involved with Netflix, Netflix didn't want them on or maybe a little of both. You could say maybe time or contract issues but for all of them wouldn't make much sense.
Then there's the real world issues. A show like this definitely needs some racial and sexual preference issues but they do go too far and make it feel too forced like some other shows have. Some have posted about the two black males engaging in sex which is drawn out and awkward especially when you have two very important characters including Italia Ricci who sleep together. Let's just say she's not a bad looking woman and that scene is very quick and barely anything shown. Then you have the two men, one of which is newer and the other you pretty much know nothing about. It only happens once but the other occasional issues between the two just aren't very interesting.
You have another new main character who isn't half bad with his storyline.
To make all of this a little shorter, the third season isn't boring. It's more interesting than half of the weird crap on Netflix, it's just a huge disappointment being the last season. This show could've easily gone a few seasons. Plus a few details are left wide open and the end to the season is just kind of like okay whatever.
You will at the very least enjoy the first two seasons and will want to watch the third to see how everything plays out.
Santa Clarita Diet (2017)
Very funny! Netflix owners don't like comedy.
The show is not only hilarious, it's interesting and the characters have been good together. It's a very odd idea for a show but it works. It can be a little gory but mostly in a comical way. Worth watching if you enjoy goofy comedy instead of the total awkward comedies making mostly sexual jokes. Netflix has has never had much success with comedy, movies or shows. This show comes around and they cancel it after 3 seasons. As good as some of the content is on Netflix, they'll never fully beat out regular TV with their 8-10 episode seasons every year or two for 2-3 seasons.
Gemini Man (2019)
Not Will Smith's best but a decent movie.
I'm guessing most of the hate is probably because this movie came out around the same time as Joker. Which by the way is a joke of a movie. Gemini Man is about Will Smith having a younger clone of himself trying to take him out because he wants to retire from the business of being an assassin/hitman. There's a little more to it but a simple plot. There's a good amount of action, acting is fine and effects are fine. People are complaining about CGI for this one but the effects are fine. Some of the action is unbelievable but then again.. it's a movie. Plus the clone is supposed to be a younger and better version. It's not as if the writers are making this try to seem like a realistic movie. Maybe if Will Smith spent most of the movie looking drugged up, with makeup and sitting around most of the time laughing and looking out of his mind then this would've had better reviews because Joker was definitely more "cringe worthy"
Just watch this movie if you like action and enjoy Will Smith. It's not one to go out and buy on 4K for 30 bucks but worth a rental or owning if you get it on a good sale.
Joker (2019)
No clue how this movie was so popular.
I didn't see this movie in theaters, ended up renting it. I figured it'd be the type of movie that was more psychological than anything but ended up being dull. Joaquin Phoenix is a good actor but his acting in this one gets pretty repetitive and annoying after a while instead of impressive. Especially since his character acted the same on medication and off.
It's definitely a somewhat interesting take on Joker's backstory but just doesn't follow through. He gets fired from being a clown, finds out he was adopted so he starts killing people including his own mother while in the hospital from a stroke. Which leads me to another point, the movie is kind of sick. You have people starting protests and riots, not much explanation as to why but they start dressing like clowns just because of Joker killing 3 Wall Street younger men on a train. This movie is not a horror or thriller type of movie, more like just a random and ridiculous one. He also takes out Robert De Niro because he made fun of his stand up comedy.
Most seem to like this movie because of the acting and the dark tone which is fine. Although if you don't enjoy movies that are slow paced, have very little plot and are hyped because it was different than "the usual popular movies" then this movie probably isn't for you. Also one other thing.. Joker looks like he's in his 40s and Bruce Wayne is probably like 8-10 so does Batman fight him when he's a senior?
The Intruder (2019)
Decent movie, just nothing very new.
The movie is basically just a recently married couple looking to buy a house after the guy gets a big promotion. Dennis Quaid sells the house but doesn't seem like he wants to give it up so he stalks the house and the couple. The acting is fine and it isn't too slow paced but has the typical obvious suspense scenes and the woman being completely obliovous that the guy is crazy. The movie also doesn't do a great job explaining why he's the way he is despite the house being in his family for a long time and why he thinks he would be able to keep the house and get with the much younger African American woman who never showed any interest in him except allowing him to visit. Some other minor plot holes and the usual why did this person do that or not do this. Again not a terrible movie, just not that interesting either.
Serenity (2019)
Starts off interesting, second half means well but the movie doesn't really take off
The first half of the movie is decent, plot seems like nothing new but good enough for a movie especially since it leaves you wondering about a few things. Then the movie throws a plot twist at you but sort of executes it randomly. The movie slows down, gets weird and never really fully explains itself. I feel like the movie could've been a lot better especially if the second half had more to it. It was definitely an interesting concept and while the ending doesn't really really leave you too confused or angry because the reason behind everything makes sense. The movie just makes you feel like there could've been more to it. The acting is average at best even with a cast like Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jason Clarke, Diane Lane and Djimon Hounson and below average during the second half.
Beat Shazam (2017)
Fun show, just a little styerotypical at times.
The show is a lot of fun to watch, especially the first season. The second and epsecially the third seasons have felt more stereotypical. Jamie Foxx is entertaining as you would expect but comes off as not necessarily racist (doubt it with how many people he's acted with) but a little too pro African-American on a show based on an App and the biggest hits in music. They tend to play Rap, R&B, Disco and Mowtown quite a bit. They tend to be directed towards African-Americans and even Pop Divas genre does sometimes. I like some of the music in those genres but some more rock and country music would be welcome and I only like country music from the 90's and early 2000's. Just a better variety I'm saying. The categories are similar on most of the episodes this current season. Jamie tends to play around, dance and have fun with any R&B or similar songs but quickly goes through any occasional songs of other genres, either seeming like he doesn't know the song or even makes fun of it. Not sure if it's him or if it's forced. There's also always an African-American or Gay couple on the show. There's only 3 teams of 2 so I mean it obviously has to be picked that way. I'm all for diversity but it feels forced on this show which in my opinion is a slap in the face to certain races and gays because it's almost like it has to intentionally be televised on certain shows. Rather than it happening naturally and being accepted as normal. That just bothers me but rant over.
Regardless there is still good music on the show. It can be pretty funny at times. Jamie Foxx's daughter plays the songs on the show for the last 2 seasons now and she's great, also great chemistry on the show with her father. You can even play along in the app for a chance to win $10,000 although it was kind of tough to beat the contestants, more due to them being there and having the large buttons in front of them.
Give the show a try if you love music and if you're a Jamie Foxx fan. There were a few celebrity appearances as well but they seem to have stopped that on season 3.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Amazing movie as usual when it comes to Marvel.
The movie has a ton of plotholes and things that you'll think about after the movie. That being said you should enjoy this movie if you're a Marvel fan. Many great actors, superheroes, action, etc. Must watch if you've been keeping up with all of the other MCU movies.
A Quiet Place (2018)
Not a bad movie but one that leaves you confused.
The storyline is interesting and the movie is suspenseful but can be just confusing at times. Not necessarily about what's going on but why. The movie has no backstory other than a few newspapers on the wall. No back story for the characters. The parents lose a child in the beginning. They have all learned sign language and how to be as quiet as possible within a few months but not to leave a child farther behind in the woods only for the child to play with a loud toy that draws in the monsters of the movie. The parents wind up getting pregnant within a couple months (they have two other kids at this point who are a little older) which I'm assuming wasn't on purpose but you would think that's not too smart due to noise.
The only things you really know about the monsters is that they can't see but can hear just about anything, even far range. They have thick armor that can't be damaged. Of course there's parts of the movie where you think how did one of them not hear that or how did they hear that? One later on in the movie attacks the dad despite no noise being made. It goes after the kids making noise but then the dad gives himself up by yelling to save the kids but there where plenty of objects nearby to distract it by making noise. The dad was creating some kind of hearing aid that has a frequency that bothers the creatures making them go away. But they pretty much stuck around and the thing didn't seem to work at one part. Then they work again at the end of the movie and when amplified, the armor on their head goes away allowing the mother to shoot it and take it down. The movie ends with a bunch of them heading towards the house. There's supposed to be a sequel but I doubt it'll explain how they got out of that situation considering she had just a shotgun with limited ammo. Just a lot of plotholes. Other people may have figured out their weakness or even a different one but obviously it's not like they can find everyone to tell them.
It's worth watching in my opinion as it's different and maybe the sequel will have much more to it. There's just so many plot holes, not much understanding of what's going on and not a lot happens in the movie. It could've been really good had it developed more of a story and a background. This feels like something that would be better as a series instead of movies.
The Neighbor (2017)
A movie that seems interesting but winds up being the opposite
The description for the movie is simple but seems decent enough to watch. Nope..
SPOILERS (not much to spoil)
It's a pretty basic storyline. A husband and wife are depressed, new neighbors move in and they're a young recently married couple. The husband tries to look out for the woman by talking to her and helping her with her garden. He seems to grow feelings for her and they wind up briefly kissing. The wife doesn't find out but feels like he has a crush on the young girl. He gets involved with one of the couples argumentd as it's clearly shown that he's a drunk and abusive towards her. He goes back home and the wife is mad about him getting involved. The wife kicks him out and puts all the blame on him for their troubles. This could be true but the movie doesn't really explain anything about why they've been depressed, pretty much making the wife seem like the mean one whether that be the case or not. He stays at a hotel but winds up coming back home, making dinner for his wife and wants to talk about things but she wants him out. He also finds out the neighbor is pregnant after telling him she was ready to leave the guy and move out. He winds up coming back when he sees her outside smoking a cigarette and gets involved again with another argument, gets knocked down, goes in their house to get knocked down again and then he hits the husband in the face with a golf club and seems to have killed him but no exact answer. Then he sits in back yard, picks a tomato from his garden and you hear police sirens in the background. That's about it. Not much happens in this 90 minute movie.
Other "big" details? Their son visits and stays for a while but doesn't really add anything other than the father being worried the son hanging out with the abusive guy. It seems like the father and son might've had some type of argument, on a couple of occasions but again no information about that.
The main character has a friend who apparently cheated on his wife a couple times and is constantly trying to talk him into sleeping with the young girl or anyone especially right after he's kicked out.
The abusive guy might be sleeping with other women as he walks into his house after another girl does while the wife was hanging out with friends in the pool but this is never proved or brought up.
The abusive guy wants everyone to go to the dealership to buy a Corvette off of him.
William Fitchers acting is decent but he just looks stoned at times. Not a movie worth watching, no suspense and the drama in the movie takes up probably 10% of the movie at most.
The American (2010)
Good movie for people that don't like good movies
There really isn't much to say about this movie because not much really happened. George Clooney is a hitman and you would think it probably has to be a good movie. He needs to make a gun for some assassin. He goes to Italy in a remote place. The one thing is that this movie is beautiful and many nice looking scenes but you could obviously just look up pictures/videos or even go there. I don't even remember anything standing out except Clooney finding a girl and the whole movie was very anti climatic. One of those types of movies where everyone just looks kind of stoned and you watch every action they make whether it be serious or them going to the bathroom. The assassin that wanted the gun ends up having to take Clooney out as per orders from I guess whoever he was working for. Not sure why he had to make a gun for that. Overall it's just a boring movie and don't let the other reviewers fool you. Some like movies like this that don't have anything going on for some odd reason. Some says it's the scenery but definitely not enough to watch this movie.
