Blow-Up (1966)
A charming movie, but not for rednecks
16 May 2003
I enjoyed all those comments full of complaining at a "pointless story"... if you want a romance, just watch soap operas, not the finest Antonioni's movie.

This film is like a two hours long Radiohead's song; it contains a charming atmosphere, some great scenes, that you maybe can not understand the first time you watch it, but later it all becomes clear... perfect music, hidden "jokes", and it is all stuffed with philosophy, zen and other things like that... there really IS a story and even the POINT, but 16yr old comix fans just can't see it.

Finally -- if you want to see something else than Spiderman or Matrix, choose this... I hope you WON'T REGRET IT ;-)

Deep Impact (1998)
Deep Impact aspired to be a catastrophic movie, but in fact this is a comedy
27 November 2002
I don't want to bore you with another long review, so I'll just pick out my "favorite moments" (irony!) to write about:

1) the whole movie is just about America, America and America. You know, there are other states and even continents on the Earth ;-) -- a collision with an asteroid is a global problem; I think that it should be handled by United Nations, not just by american president

2) the towers of the World Trade Center standing after being impacted by one kilometer high wave? I didn't know if I should cry or laugh... it was rather sad...

3) imagine that you are in a traffic jam and you have to escape if you want to survive -- and suddenly you see small boy on a motorbike. How it was possible that nobody took Elijah Wood of his motorcycle?

4) I just enjoyed the collision of Messiash and two meters long stone...

Finally, my rating is 3/10 (Armagedon was even worse). I liked just the first 30 minutes.

Rebelové (2001)

Surprisingly good
28 October 2001
When I saw the trailer, I thought that this could be another syrupy retro-comedy situated in the 60s, which is currently the most popular sort of movies in the Czech rep. But when I borrowed the VHS-tape, I found out, that in fact Rebelové (or "Rebe-Love") is fairly fun and smart-written film, containing great music; I gave it 7 out of 10 stars.

Clever and very well-written comedy
1 May 2001
I watched "Les Compagnons de la marguerite" this evening and I was shocked by it's quality. It has been placed in a block of old and already forgotten comedies - so I did not suspect so great movie. I laughed all the time - because of perfectly written dialogues, witty gags and a superb plot (the movie is about a clerk, who can perfectly change dates in the official registers and helps people to divorce them without any long lawsuits). My rating is 9/10.

Let yourself get amazed!

I saw this movie for the first time when I was five or six years old - and it was a fantastic expirience. It made me to read the original book by Jules Verne - and I must say that it's less amazing and astounding than the film. I always loved the charming b&w scenes - you'll never know if the move is played by live actors or if it is all animated. Let yourself get amazed!

A great movie

I saw this movie one night on second channel of the Czech state TV. I was "shocked" by its quality - it cost several dollars, but it's better than standard Hollywood's production. There are witty and clever gags, intelligent humor... I find very comical a person called "Ant" - young film-maker with no talent and art dispositions, troubled by his terrible complexes and having hallucinations; he's more funny than Charlie Chaplin. 9/10

Stupid & silly movie
25 February 2001
In short: A. Schwarzeneger wants to save his daughter - that's OK. But why must he kill more than 200 people? I don't understand it at all... There are many fact errors to: no-one can survive a jump from flying plane to the sea, thin woman can not shoot from bazooka... I'm sure it's one of the most stupid movies ever.

Kitsch
10 February 2001
I saw this film before two weeks. It's kitsch, boring and totally unintelligible for people, that haven't read the original book. There are many fact mistakes too... actors plays rather poor, you must laugh even in the sad moments. It was a totally waste of time.

Rather good, even if not so great as Knoflikari
10 February 2001
I've seen this movie three or four times. It's funny, even if some dialogues aren't written optimally. I love two things in this film: the soundtrack, particularly brilliant song "Lucky Boy", and the figure Jakub (Jiri Machacek) - young man, which has almost destroyed his brain by marihuana. His funny quotes as "I'm on fire! Oh, boys, it's really funny!" are already legendary here in the Czech rep....
