I stayed awake for 2 hours and 27 minutes on a Friday night!
14 October 2023
This is one of the best movies I've seen in a while. It was entertaining, thought provoking and kept you wondering what was coming next. The characters and the dialogue and the situations were so realistic. If you've been on a cruise or a ship, it's even more entertaining to watch. I don't want to say too much because I went into it knowing absolutely nothing but this is a very entertaining movie!

Another great thing about this movie is that the backdrop keeps changing. It starts out with two models who are dating and having some relationship issues...the issues they are having and the way they handle these issues are very realistic and relatable.

Next, the movie moves to a luxury cruise. As I mentioned, this is fun to watch, especially if you've been on a big ship before.

I think this movie should have won best picture! It is very unique, not at all pretentious, well directed, well acted, great pacing, it's really very good.

The Afterparty: Danner's Fire (2023)
Season 2, Episode 6

Hilarious episode,!
16 August 2023
I personally found this episode hilarious! The whole 91/2 weeks type genre satire was awesome. Tiffany hadush is very funny! And Paul Walter Hauser is so funny! Loved it! Love the different genre for each episode. Great idea, very smart and fun show with excellent casting. Season 2 may be even better than season 1. I'm done of my review, I see short reviews on here , not sure why IMDb is asking for more characters? Sorry about this wasted space at the end that I need to write to fulfill the character requirements. Very strange . Not sure why that is....... Anyway, really enjoying the show!....

Brilliant acting, and story done with respect
24 June 2023
The two top reasons I thought this was so good are: 1 - The acting. Paul Walter Hauser was so good! He was so creepy, like real life subtle creepy, just amazing. The way he goes into almost like a trance, the way he talks, the smooth transition from seeming almost normal to creepy and just everything about him, he is so good. And Taron Egerton, you can see him holding back his real emotions until they come out when he's alone, you can see in his face that he's saying disgusting things he doesn't want to say but has to say to "get in" with Larry. You can see those emotions in his face. Also amazing! Rest of the cast is excellent too.

2 - The respect shown for the victims. They don't show any of the crimes, we don't have to watch the victims suffering which in my opinion is unnecessary and can sometimes feel gratuitous. And when they do allude to the crimes, the score portrays the deep sadness. Not some "ooh it's creepy" music but real tragedy. There are other ways the victims are respected but I don't want to say too much and give things away and take away from the story. But let's just say that we are shown a little bit about how society could do better in general. It's not just the serial killer who is analyzed.

In addition, the show just keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting to see how it all unfolds. Excellent story telling and in only 6 episodes! We couldn't stop watching. It's very disturbing of course but there's the hope for justice at least that keeps you watching.

A fun show with good music and heart
8 June 2023
We picked this just to watch while we're eating and slightly distracted but ended up really liking it. I think my husband said 10/10! It's just a fun show but also with heart and lovable characters. Definitely, you should try more than 1 episode. I never watch just one episode of anything, doesn't give a chance to get to know characters and allow for some setup. Love the soundtrack! It's a fun summer show because of the music and the glamourous lifestyle. I recommend it. Great shows on Apple! So that's all I have to say but for some reason I'm being asked to type more characters. Doing this on my phone...

Should be a classic! Up there with the best 80's movies!
19 August 2022
So it's production date is 1991 but it's got the feel of a great 80's classic! Great soundtrack and a nice little original "love theme". The two lead actors Ethan Hawke and Teri Polo are excellent! It's got everything: comedy, adventure, romance! I've watched it twice in the last couple of months and was fully entertained both times! Can't say enough about it.... should have been a classic!

Watched it two nights in a row!! Love it!!
10 December 2021
This movie was awesome! It was genuinely funny throughout, had lots of neat throwbacks to the original and the actors were all excellent. Ellie Kemper and Rob Delaney were perfectly cast and did and did a really good job as the new "bumbling crooks". I guess some people are mad because of course "it's not the original" but 3.6/10!!! Whaaat! I was so shocked when I saw this rating. The score is great too, John Debney mixes just enough of John Williams original score and does s beautiful job. Please don't listen to the bad reviews, this remake is really good.

Entertaining from beginning to end!
25 January 2019
Just watched this movie for the first time. I chose it because I'm a fan of Steve Coogan and I'm a fan of light comedy/crime movies. Some of the things for me that really stood out about this movie were that it was funny right from the beginning and didn't slow down on the humour and it was funny and an adventure/caper and a romance and a nice story. It was fun all the way through and the supporting actors were superb. I almost didn't recognize Ben Miller... I loved this movie!

Watch if you like sketch comedy. Great sketch comedy show!

I too found this show refreshing and funny and felt compelled to give it a good review after seeing some of the bad reviews on here. If you like sketch comedy, it's very well done. I love it.

Very real, amazing acting. Heart wrenching and heart warming.
24 April 2016
I can't say enough good things about this movie. The dialogue and situations are so real. Made even more real by the amazing acting jobs, particularly Mark Ruffalo and Imogene Wolodarsky. This feels like a real family and is indeed based on the writer/directors life. Although the movie is based a story that is in many ways very sad, there is also many moments of laughter and joy for this family. So although you often feel sadness for the characters, it is still a joy to watch. I highly recommend this movie. After finishing this movie I had to immediately look it up to see if it was based on a real story because watching it, you just know it has to be. If you have grown up in a family that had to struggle in any way, you will relate to and find joy in this movie.

Excellent comedy. Has an old fashioned feel to it and reminiscent of Woody Allen films
24 April 2016
I loved this movie. It had definitely had a Woody Allen feel to it. The opening with the music of the 1930's... the neurotic characters getting entangled in ever more complex situations leading to many laughs... Others have compared the movie to "screwball comedies of old". Either way, it really works. A great cast of actors doing excellent comedy. Even Jennifer Aniston made me laugh quite a few times! Imogen Poots was amazing! Perfect comedy timing and quirkiness. Wonderful. Owen Wilson was sort of reprising his "Midnight in Paris" character a bit but he was great too! I loved it from beginning to end. It's a lighthearted movie with lots of laughs that will leave you feeling good. Highly recommended.

Very Bad (and I'm not fussy)
19 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I expected more from Helen Hunt. This movie was boring (basically just watching Helen Hunt's character learn to surf over and over). The guy who plays the son, his acting is not good. Cringeworthy really. There is no sexual discovery. Just a one night hook up in a hotel room. The characters are extremely one-dimensional and uninteresting...and unlikeable. There is nothing to like about this mother and son. Luke Wilson is the ONLY pleasant part of this movie. At points, you almost sensed that even his character didn't like the mother and son either. It is a really bad movie and I am not fussy. I'll put up with a little cheesiness but this movie had nothing to offer. You could watch it to laugh at how bad it is, that's about the only value you'll find here.

Disappointed
21 February 2014
I agree with the review titled "Pointless" on this one. The acting was good and I liked the realistic dialogue but the plot was almost nonexistent. It wasn't much of a comedy but it wasn't much of a drama either. There was no life lessons learnt and when the young boys were presented with a possible life changing situation, nothing really came of it. I just found that by the end, I wondered how this could be a full length movie. A short film maybe, but not a full length film. There was not enough substance for that. It was scattered as one reviewer mentioned but this was not a good thing. I would skip this one. Even more disappointing, I rented it as a new release and got home and found it was on Netflix for free. Only rated 3 stars on there. I'm surprised by the 6.3 rating on IMDb.

Very funny
9 November 2010
This movie was very funny. I'm glad I didn't see the low rating on IMDb until after I had rented it. The movie continues to be funny from beginning to end. Ignore the reviews on here if you are looking to be entertained and have a good laugh! Eugene levy is very funny in this. Samuel L Jackson is great as usual. Definitely worth watching!

I recognized Luke Goss from my younger days when he and his twin brother were in the pop duo Bros. Funny! Great movie for this genre. Reminded me of The In- Laws also. There is not too much violence which is good. It's lighthearted overall. Worth watching for sure. I think possibly the reason a movie like this gets a low rating is because there are too many critics out there. If a movie like this is entertaining that's all it needs to be I think.

If you like Mr. Bean this movie is very funny!
7 September 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This was a great movie. It was as good as I had hoped. If you don't find the Mr. Bean character funny, don't bother watching this movie or commenting on it. I don't think anyone who likes the character could not have found the movie funny. For those who find the Mr. Bean character funny, this movie was really good.

Throughout the movie, Mr. Bean uses his video camera to record things that happen to him on his vacation. This leads to a scene in the movie that had me laughing so hard I was crying. I really enjoyed this movie and it's safe to bring your kids too! Sit back and enjoy a fun little trip with Mr. Bean.

Overrated and boring
20 June 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Why does this movie spend most of it's time introducing aspects of the characters lives that we don't care about, shopping, parties etc. I cared about maybe two of the characters. And are they purposely trying to insinuate that other than the odd spit ball in class, anyone who is motivated to kill their classmates is just a regular kid at school but secretly goes home and watches Nazi videos and engages in secret homosexuality and spends hours practicing piano? I got zero meaning from this movie, and zero compassion and I was basically offended by the simplistic way they represented such a complex social problem. It's not just an anomaly. School is hell for a lot of teenagers and movies should make this clear. I've yet to see a realistic representation of high school in a movie. The hidden hierarchal system and the way someone quietly or not so quietly makes you feel worthless.

I guess, only watch if you are in the business????
26 February 2002
I found this movie so slow and boring. I'm sure I didn't get a lot of the satire, I guess because I'm not in the business... But still, the final "twist" we find out at the end is not worth watching the whole movie to find out. I consider myself half decently intelligent and I just did not get this movie which leaves me to conclude after seeing the rave reviews on this movie that you have to be in the business to get it.

An unusual mix of comedy and dark reality
16 February 2002
I thought this was a good movie. I thought the acting was good for the most part and I really liked the soundtrack. I found the movie to be an unusual mix of light comedy about a group of old friends getting together with their various personality clashes contrasted against a look at the dark realities of the existence of pure evil in this world. But the movie also had a dramatic side as well. The violence in this movie was very hard to watch but needed to be shown to help viewers understand what happens to Emily. I think the main message of the movie is that some good can come out of even the most horrible things. The movie was also trying to show that although you can never be completely protected from the existence of evil in the world, you have to continue on and search for the goodness in the world. I gave this movie an 8 out of 10.

good but something missing
14 February 2002
I liked this movie, but from start to finish, I kept feeling like something was missing. I think what it may have been was character development. I'm sure the director as well as the viewers wanted to get on with the main character getting deserted on the island but I think they hurried it a bit too much. The whole time that Chuck (I think that's right) is on the island, we see just how much he loves his wife Kelly but we can't really relate because we hardly know her. That's the way I felt anyway. And even Chuck, we don't really know him, we know that he takes his work very seriously and allows it to take time away from his wife but that's about it. I just didn't really feel I knew the characters. But the portion of the movie starting from the crash and the time he is on the island, I thought was very good. I know many people would have laughed at the idea of a grown man making friends with a volleyball but I think if anybody was alone on an island for 4 years, they might be desperate enough to form a close personal relationship with a volleyball. I might talk to an inanimate object after being left alone for a few hours but then again, I might be a little crazy... anyhow, overall, I liked the movie and I gave it an 8 but I thought it needed better character development. Tom Hanks did an excellent job but the lack of character development took away from his good performance I thought. Also, I thought it should have explained that "special" package a bit more. For some reason, this package meant a lot to Chuck. I chalked it up to, well he had an intuitive feeling but I thought maybe I was missing something.

You won't have all the answers but that's the point!!
5 November 2001
I keep hearing people saying that they didn't understand the ending or that they waited the whole movie to find out the truth about Prot and then were disappointed in the end. This movie is meant to parallel real life, there are mysteries that we will never know for sure the answer to. This is what makes life interesting! If we knew all the answers then we would stop wondering and when that happens then aren't we basically dead? This movie was so original in that it didn't do the typical Hollywood thing of telling all the little "children" (viewers) in the end how things are. We are left to make up our own mind. And that is what we need more of today, people using there own minds instead of waiting for an answer to be given to them. I guess you've gathered by now that I loved this movie! I thought Kevin Spacey was excellent. Some viewers I guess cannot handle knowing that it is possible for a grown man to have an emotional outburst of pain ... when I went to see this movie, a girl actually laughed hysterically at this very scene. Are people so closed that they have to laugh to hide the fact that they might be affected by this type of emotion! The only thing and it's a small thing that bugged me in this movie was the very "Hollywood" portrayal of a mental institution. I don't want to sound cruel but I don't think that in real life that all the people in a mental hospital would be so easily loveable with just a few laughable quirks. I am sure it is much more complicated then that. This movie has it all, humour, drama, mystery and a mind opening question that you the viewer is left to decide. Viewers should feel gratitude to the makers of this movie for not assuming that we are so simple minded that we need a Hollywood movie to answer all of our questions in life. If you want to be left with something to think about and also be entertained, go see this movie!!

The trouble with this movie...
18 May 2001
I have been trying to put my finger on what is wrong with this film. After watching the movie, I knew I liked it but there was something dampering it that and I couldn't put my finger on. I read several other user comments and still didn't know. The acting was very good (for the most part), especially Kevin Spacey, and the concept of course was excellent and the story was touching, so what's wrong with it. Other users are saying it's contrived or the ending is bad or too Hollywood etc. but I can handle a bit of that and that wasn't quite it. Then, I got it. I know what the problem is, it's the directing. I wondered why in one scene, a usually talented actor would be terrible and then good in the next scene. (It's a fact that bad directing can make even the best actors look terrible.) And why the movie just didn't seem to flow. For example the homeless man helping the woman about to jump just kind of stuck there in the middle of the movie after we hadn't seen him for a while and then the scene cut off as quickly as it came. One complaint was too much of the movie taken over by the romance. Yes there was a lot of the movie devoted to the romance but they still kept the "pay it forward" storyline going. The problem was with how they kept it going, it just didn't flow right. It felt like they just stuck in "pay it forward" storyline scenes every now and then to let us know they hadn't forgotten the main point of the movie but it just didn't feel right. I blame it on the directing and whomever else is responsible for the flow of the movie. The acting is good, the concept is good, the script is good and the ending is okay, (it's just giving us some reality. If a person lives there life trying to help others, that doesn't mean that there suddenly safe from the dark side of this life.) I recommend, see this movie for the it's good points but expect to leave with a feeling that it could have been done a lot better.

A movie to watch over and over!
18 May 2001
This is one of my favorite movies and I own a copy of it. Everything about it is wonderful. I love the beautiful soundtrack which complements the beautiful ocean front backdrop and the nostalgic, emotional and romantic feeling of the movie. The theme song "When She Danced" is one of my favorite songs of all time and I don't think it's cheesy. The movie just captures so many feelings perfectly. You just want to be there living the experiences of these characters at this wonderful, albeit sad, time in there lives. I can't seem to put into words how I feel about this movie and that's mostly because that's what this movie is, something that you can't really touch. It just writes like a bittersweet poem. I make it sound so cheesy but you can't help it with this movie, it's just so deeply moving. But it's not cheesy, it's very real with very real characters. I give it a 10.

p.s. It's not just a chick flick. There's enough baseball dreams and adolescent fantasies to keep any guy happy.

I don't know why I liked this movie, but I did!
3 March 2000
I don't know what it was that made me like this movie so much. It's not the kind of humor that you really laugh out loud about. But I enjoyed watching the movie. I don't know if it was seeing these girls whose lives are so mundane that you feel good about your own. Or if it was that you felt like someone else could relate to your feelings about the boredom of work. Or the humor in the strangeness of the office world and the people who inhabit it. The movie has kind of a dark feeling to it but for some reason I like that. It seems to fit. The boring and scary world of the temp secretary in an office where noone knows your name and the sad lives of each of the girls. I can't seem to put it into words but I really liked this movie. I also really liked Parker Posey's performance.

Good if you like Michelle Pheiffer
2 March 2000
I thought this movie was good because it was very real. I could relate to both of the main characters. I thought Bruce Willis did an excellent job. I'm used to him in action roles but he was convincing as a kind, easy-going husband and father. What made the movie not quite as good for me was Michelle Pheiffer. I didn't really care for her. Throughout the movie I found her acting not that convincing. I don't know, just something about her wasn't quite right, not enough feeling or something. And I hate when people in movies are supposed to be crying really hard but no tears come out, she did this in this movie. And there was one scene where she makes this long speech and she's very upset and supposed to be crying but there's no tears and she's wining to the point where it's annoying and again it's not convincing, there doesn't seem to be the right feeling. You could always feel Bruce Willis' sadness or happiness but I didn't get this from Michelle Pheiffer. I liked the movie for it's realistic portrayal of what should be considered a "happy" marriage and it's just a nice story.

Very sappy, very predictable but enjoyable to watch
2 March 2000
This movie turned out to be pretty much what I expected. Of course it's sappy, of course it's predictable. We all know the fairytale. But knowing that when you go to watch it, it's enjoyable enough to watch. It was funny and sweet. I did find it annoying that they showed geeks as either kids who didn't wash there hair or kids who loved math and joined clubs about math and wore T-shirts about math. I was an outcast in high school and I didn't do these things. It goes much deeper than that. Having to do with many things, some of that being how much money your family has, how much you are willing to hide your uniqueness and how mean you are willing to be to other kids. Anyway, I won't get into it. I don't agree with other opinions that Drew isn't convincing as a geek. With braces, no make-up and unwashed hair, I don't think too many people would be drooling over her. And even when she goes back to high-school and sheds those things. She's still wearing the "wrong" clothes, "wrong" hair and has the "wrong" attitude to be considered cool. And her other "geek" friend may be beautiful but it doesn't matter, where I come from, you can still be an outcast and be beautiful. (inside and out)
