Mr. and Mrs. Loving (1996 TV Movie)

An excellent depiction of life for interracial couples of the time
6 October 1999
I caught this movie on TV when it first debuted, but now own it on video. It is truly an excellent portrayal of the kind of life interracial MARRIED couples had to deal with during this time of heated topics of race and equality--Civil Rights. Both Timothy Hutton and Lela Rachon performed their real-life characters exquisitely. There are so many problems that arose during the late 1950s and into the 1960s, but we must also remember that there still exist racial issues that should not even be. The day every person realizes it was NOT intended by God to keep people of different color from intermixing and interacting with amongst each other, as the state court judge so hypocritically proclaimed in the face of the Lovings that day they were sentenced...someone who obviously did not know his Bible very well...will be quite a day indeed.

For the interest in learning more about interracial relationships back in the 1960s, I would recommend seeing the movie entitled "Love Field" with Michelle Pfeiffer and Dennis Haysbert. It is not based on a true story, but it does depict the attitude of our country toward black and white relationships during the civil rights movements.

Sabrina (1995)

You have to know the old version to appreciate this one
6 October 1999
I love this movie. Then again, I love Harrison Ford and have been intrigued with Julia Ormond since I saw her in the TNT TV movie "Young Catherine" (which is another good movie!). I've already seen the first version of Sabrina (Audrey Hepburn, William Holden, and Humphrey Bogart), but unfortunately I saw the newest first then went back and saw the old one. I wish I hadn't, but it did cause me to appreciate the latest version more. I just found there to be more detail and more wit with Ford, Ormond, and Kinnear. If you don't like the good old romantic movies, then don't watch this. Otherwise, check them both out!

Nothing special, just a cute romantic turnout
6 October 1999
I won't recommend you run to the store and buy this, but it's better you rent it and see for yourself. It's not exactly the greatest movie in the world, particularly in the romance category, but it's entertaining and has a cute little love story surrounding the plot.

Jane Eyre (1983)
So many versions...so little time...
6 October 1999
Not until recently, after I purchased this version of Jane Eyre, that I discovered the numerous other versions of the infamous adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's original story. I've seen them all and have come to the conclusion (although, as some other commentors pointed out, yes Rochester played by Timothy Dalton, is too goodlooking for the intended character) that this is the most detailed and best layout for what Bronte had initially written. Even as Dalton was not the "picture" of Rochester he played his personality exquisitely (Dalton is well known for those amazing outbursts anyway) and Zelah Clarke playing Eyre was excellent too. I won't undermine the other versions out there, I even recommend you check out the first version with Orson Welles (1934), but personally, I found BBC's version as the best. Enjoy them!

OH, and for those of you who are in search of BBC's Jane Eyre, it is available (in the US) at most major video stores now.

If you love those romantic movies of the 60s this is one of them
6 October 1999
Jane Fonda is young, vulnerable and definitely into the whole 60s concept of "expressing yourself". She basically ends up falling in love with a guy she by chance runs into on the bus and enters into a relationship with him as well. Aside from all the little meeting dates they make throughout the movie, to avoid the watchful eye of her older brother, it's not too bad. Go ahead, rent it out, and let the actors and actresses entertain you!

A good rendition of the first version and the middle sister of You've Got Mail
6 October 1999
In order to really appreciate this movie, you must see the first version of this movie which would later be remade as You've Got Mail. Personally I think the first version "The Shop Around the Corner" (1940) is where the writer of You've Got Mail based there plot on, where as In The Good Old Summertime places a bit of a twist on the story, but still remains true to the original. I love all three versions (and own all), but I would choose this particular one over all of the rest. A real gem of a movie...check it out!

To appreciate this movie you have to be...
6 October 1999
A romantic for one...the majority of Gene Kelly's movies were that way anyhow. You must love musicals. Period. If you've seen Kelly and Garland together in other movies (For Me and My Gal, Summer Stock), you have to watch this one too. There was just something about these two, whenever they did a movie together, it was just the chemistry. They make their characters believable, like you feel as if they are so in love on and off screen! (in real life the two were just very good friends) So go to your local video rental store or library and pick it up!

Not every WWII veteran had it easy upon their return home!
6 October 1999
I love this movie. I've owned it now for several years and I never tire of seeing it. It's a nice love story (between all the main male characters and the women in their lives), and it depicts the adjustment into normal life when 3 military veterans (representing the Air Force, Army, and Navy) return home from the end of WWII. Starring already successful and huge actors and actresses of the decade as well as introducing good potentials, this is an excellent movie demonstrating the change from war in another country to "war" at home. Hurry and check this one out!

Who can resist...
6 October 1999
the wonderful Greer Garson. And just as she later shows in other films, she always has that spark and wit and control of character that convinces you to believe she knows and has it all. Honestly, I have not seen any of the TV or series versions of this book by Jane Austen, but I love the 1940 movie with Garson and Laurence Olivier (a much more handsome man than that of the real character described in the book!). It's hard to resist Garson's characters, pick this one up, you'll love it.

It isn't as bad as the first commentators rating!!
22 September 1999
I must disagree with the person who first commented on the rating of this movie. I've seen this movie many times. True, it has some scripts that could have been better written, particularly for such a wonderfully and already famous actress Olivia De Havilland, but I don't think it was a bomb. It's really not such a bad movie--not the greatest in the world, but--worth watching if you're an avid fan of De Havilland! :o)
