Hellraiser: Inferno (2000)
A stylized hellraiser
I really enjoyed this next step in the hellraiser series.
It has a very unique pace to it and brings forth a whole new perspective of hellraiser horror. Instead of the all guts vision of 'Hell on Earth' and 'Bloodline', this film takes on a more Hellraiser/Hellbound Hellraiser approach while combining emotion, mystery and agony.
The film could be compared to 'Jacob's Ladder'.
This new pace may drive fans away. But, to those who have read the comics and short stories, you easily adapt to the film's feel.
The film addresses Barker's idea that each person creates their own hell.
*Spoilers Below* The main character is a detective. He is what many would call a dirty cop; he lives life on a wild side which he conceals from his own family. His take on life has destroyed his relationships. He opens the puzzle box and into his own realm of agony he falls. Forever living the descent of what he has destroyed. **************
I thought the film was very entertaining. Many have complained that Pinhead's presence was short-lived, but was he needed? In the original film, Pinhead wasn't a main focus, as in the novel.
He wasn't a focal point in HH2. People have gotten too used to the increase in his presence from the first four films. The third film turned his character into an outright slasher; as with the fourth. When in the first two, he was seen as a referee to all of hell's madness.
The film was a very nice addition to the series. It represents a great change in style from the third and fourth films. And, many will appreciate it eventually.
Tokyo Fist (1995)
A Japanese boxing film
SPOILERS ARE LOCATED BELOW
Many people will disagree with my opinion on this film.
First off, many comments on this board mislead me into getting hold of it. The film is quite terrible. Sure, it has some good fighting scenes in it, and some pretty entertaining training scenes. But, the film just gets to be too chaotic. The plot is simple; the two friends become enemies over a woman. When they were youths, a girl that they had loved, was killed by street punks. They vowed to take up pro- boxing and to eventually avenge their friend. One friend takes the pro-boxing path and one takes a different stride. The film does address many good issues, but it is just bathed in distracting features. The music for one thing, was a joke. Many of the camera angles were poor, and many of the effects were just moronic. How many times can you watch a guy walk down the street through a rumble cam? And many things were repeated constantly; like the meat on the camera.
I found the film interesting, but not compelling.
This film related in now way to Fight Club.
Requiem for a Dream (2000)
Gripping, intense, the BEST film of all TIME!
I recently took the adventure of viewing this masterpiece. I was drawn to it for I had loved Pi and was drawn to it even more when I read its review in the sunday paper. It was given four stars. This film was absolutely amazing. An hour and 42 minute film about addiction in which the characters undergo an extreme cycle of hardships caused by their addiction to heroin, diet pills and television. This film is a masterpiece of film techniques. Almost every camera trick is used to make you feel as though you are in the bodies of the addicts. Even the soundtrack of the film helps to set the mood. <DARREN ARONOFSKY HAS DONE IT AGAIN>
Evil Dead II (1987)
Hilarious gore packed horror/comedy!
Extremely funny, a complete opposite version of the original Evil Dead which also a good gore packed horror film. Bruce Campbell does some crazy stuff and basically everything that can go wrong and does happens to him. In the end you sort of feel sorry for him but you will still be laughing. A part remake/ part sequel of Evil Dead. If you enjoy comedy and needless violence like me than you will love this masterpiece of a flick!!!
Bad Taste (1987)
Absolutely hilarious and packed with lots of gore!!!!!
This is the greatest film ever to be made by Peter Jackson( director of Meet the Feebles, Dead Alive, the Frighteners). Lots of scenes in which you have to rewind over and over again because it is absolutely hilarious!!!!! Just remember not to mess with Derek, "because I'm a Derek and Dereks don't run!!!!" Comedy and Sci-Fi horror at it's finest!!! A+++
Night of the Living Dead (1968)
The best George A. Romero film ever!!!
I highly recommend this film... It is one of the best zombie flicks ever made. Includes lots of gore, beatings, shootings, ect... This film spawned so many rip-offs like Night of the Living Zombies(a.k.a. Flesheater). An absolute classic in the world of horror. A+!!!
