UHF (1989)
Ah, memories...
I remember when this movie came out, I was about to turn eight and I was absolutely in love with Weird Al. I seriously thought I was going to marry him. So, imagine my dismay when I wasn't allowed to see UHF in the theater because it was PG-13 and my mom wouldn't let me go. When my sister and I finally rented it years later, we probably messed up the tape because we watched it so many times. This movie is brainless fun. It makes me laugh when I think about it. Weird Al is just wonderful. Yeah, UHF!..way to be a great movie....
The Cell (2000)
See it for the concept and the visuals
The Cell has a very interesting concept: entering and interacting within someone else's mind. Fascinating, right? So you'd think that the plot and the script (especially the script) would reflect that. But no, no it doesn't. The plot does allow for very interesting twists and very VERY cool special effects and moments of suspense, but I think it could've gone deeper and done more. Luckily, however, the script fades during the second half and just gives you the necessary information.
The visuals are astounding and absolutely beautiful. I wouldn't be surprised if The Cell walked away with best costumes and best visual effects at the Oscars.
If you're looking for a suspenceful movie that's fun to watch, than I definitely recommend The Cell. I f you want something a little deeper, a little bit more of a psychological thriller, than you should look elsewhere.
Alfred Packer: The Musical (1993)
Troma does it again...
This is probably one of the worst movies I have ever seen, however it is also one of my most favorite movies ever. I honestly cannot remember laughing harder at any movie than I have at Cannibal. It just rules.
Plus the songs are all so silly and unnecessary that you can't help but smile when you hear cheesey music vamping in the background.
This movie made me a Trey Parker/Matt Stone fan. It rules. I HIGHLY recommend it.
The TV Wheel (1995)
How incredible can you get?
I only had the pleasure of viewing the Tv-Wheel (or the x-box, as it is sometimes called) once at like 3 'o'clock in the morning and it is awesome. Joel Hodgson himself is one of the most creative people ever none-the-less in Hollywood. His invention of the Tv-Wheel and experimental showcase of it in use was incredible. I wish everyone could see this and see fully the creative genius that is Joel Hodgson.
Manos: The Hands of Fate (1966)
Oh man, what a terrible movie....
I was first introduced to "Manos" as many of you were, thru MST3K and to this day my sister and I make jokes about the absolute wretchedness of this movie. The best part of the movie is the Torgo theme, brings tears to my eyes...that and Torgo's monstrously-sized knees...that's great....okay, so, Torgo. Torgo is incredible, give Torgo an Oscar...Yeah.
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)
it's just not the same...
A good movie...if you've not seen the original trilogy. The Phantom Menace was visually thrilling, it was a beautiful concept, and it was watchable. However, those who have gotten caught up in the hype and expect something as monumental as the first trilogy they will be disappointed. The characters seem to talk only because it moves the plot along, character bonds are not strong, and every plot "twist" and "turn" is so predictable that just about nothing is left to surprise. It is unfortunate that the prequel doesn't live up to its predecessors, but with all the hype what did you expect?
The Simpsons (1989)
THe best show on television
All I can say is that this show rules. Really. You're only halfway finished laughing at one joke and they've already thrown out three more at you. Definitely the wittiest show on television, (sure Frasier is great, but it only works on so many levels. Simpsons have so many different levels of humor that it's almost impossible to not laugh at least once an episode.) it completely embraces American culture and defaces it at the same time. Matt Groening is a genius.
Waiting for Guffman (1996)
This movie rules all
Waiting For Guffman is probably one of the funniest movies I have ever seen in my entire life. True, it's sad st the end, but the rest of the movie has you crying tears of laughter anyways. I realize that most of my love and devotion for this movie comes from being a theater person myself, however there is so much random, awesome stuff thrown in the movie that anyone will enjoy it. I definitely recommend it, it rules...
