Just enjoy a solid summer movie.
4 July 2002
Let the critics have their say ripping this sequel. But as far as I'm concerned, I laughed very hard and was amazed at what special effects can achieve. Just go into your nearest THX sound theater, grab some popcorn and a drink, position yourself pretty much in the middle row, forget your troubles and enjoy the ride. Just have fun and if you DON'T laugh at any of the DOG'S lines, then check yourself into the nearest hospital!

The Gambler (1974)
THE BEST movie on gambling EVER!
25 June 2002
As a gambler who lives in Vegas, I know of what I speak! This is a SUPER film way ahead of its time, filmed in 1974. I purchased it on DVD and get as big of a kick out of it in 2002 as I did 28 years ago! All performances are top-of-the-line with James Caan never being better. I want to laugh AND cry at the same time over some of the scenes in this wonderful film, but it takes a true risk-taker to truely appreciate it and the message it delivers. 5***** out of 5 *****

Best lines: "The don't give out awards at the half, Axel." Axel: "I couldn't have lost those games. I hit 13 passes in a row in Vegas." Bookie: "But you DID!"

Spielberg is a genius. What else is new?
21 June 2002
Prepare yourself for something you've NEVER seen before! Leave it up to Steven Spielberg along with his friend, Tom Cruise, to give you an incredible journey for approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes. Put yourselves in the FUTURISTIC mode and don't worry if you don't understand it all. You'll get it in the end. Just buckle up and appreciate the fact that you are seeing something VERY special. As with The Beatles'album, "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" back in the 60's, which was ground-breaking for the music industry, look at this film the same way. Heck, even Spielberg's friend, George Lucas, is probably amazed (and jealous). Just enjoy. Enough said.

One of the best romances ever!
18 June 2002
Forget the TV show back in the 60's, take a look at one of the very best romance films in the history of cinema, made in 1946-47. Rex Harrison and Gene Tierney are perfect in the roles. Marvelous music and landscape add to their fine acting. Don't worry about the fact the movie is in black and white. You won't even notice. The ending to the film will leave you with a big smile on your face and a big tear in your eye. They just don't make them like this anymore!!

One of the top 3 sports movies - ever!
12 May 2002
First of all, Dennis Quaid deserves an Oscar nomination for this, hands down! In his past roles, he's played kind of a cocky, arrogant guy who you kind of love, but here he plays a REAL HUMAN BEING you simply adore! Best performance of his life! The movie is excellent in all aspects of the "game." While a 2 hour 20 minute running time can be long for some films, this one just carries you along effortlessly. Don't fall for any review of this film that may say it is predictable. Of course it is! It's a true story you may know of already. The guy's dream comes true. He makes it to the major leagues! The key is HOW he does it and what it takes to get there. All I can say is: ENJOY!

61* (2001 TV Movie)

One of THE best sports movies.
21 March 2002
Why is this movie so good? Answer: Because a GREAT baseball fan named Billy Crystal threw his heart and soul into it. The casting of Maris and Mantle gets a 10++++. NEVER seen better casting - NEVER! Crystal's facts are right-on, from Maris' smoking habit, Mantle's drinking habit, Maris' hair falling out and battle with the press. The movie simply nails just about every aspect of what happened in that incredible baseball season back in`61.

Travolta good as usual
21 March 2002
Very underrated film that combines the best human values combined with fantasy. Travolta is very good in this film and the later third of the movie shows exactly why. While it is a bit on the unbelievable side, it shows that it is still good to believe in Santa Claus and enjoy wordly pleasures - as well as be HUMAN - even if you are an angel! In other words, Travolta is no Superman here (his angelic wings don't fly him around Metropolis to save the world), but he gets the message of the movie across in the end. Hope YOU understand it, with a tear in your eye and a lump in your throat!

Excellent film and good acting all around.
21 March 2002
They just don't make `em like this anymore. James Earl Jones, Billy Dewilliams, Richard Prior and Stan Shaw play their parts to perfection. The music is excellent, capturing the flavor of the times. There are some huge belly-laughs and the plot keeps one interested throughout. Great sports movie.
