I don't understand some reviews
nielswoltersnec15 January 2021
So some people are reviewing this first episode and saying special effects look janky. Yeah, that's the whole purpose, well done! In my opinion this episode was actually really nice. I'm not a huge Marvel fan but this is genuinely entertaining exactly because of the odd setting. Nothing like the predictable movies Marvel has made during the last few years. Love the mysteries and until now, however it does feel a bit short, guess that's part of the old sitcom vibe it's supposed to give. Looking forward to the rest of the season, I do hope that somewhere around the third or fourth episode there will be some actual plot development, but for now I like the mysterious hinting at them being in some weird dimension.

Episode 1

When Marvel said they were going in a new direction with "WandaVision," they were not kidding around. At first, it does seem a little odd to find these well-known characters in this '60s-sitcom setting, but it quickly becomes clear that they are the perfect characters for a format like this. Their powers make for wonderfully odd sequences that twist the classic nature of a show like this, although with heightened personalities that can make you miss the more serious side of them both. The first episode does not offer up much on story details, but the quirkiness is enough to get the audience through it with enough excitement to want to follow along. If anything, Marvel has surely crafted something fun and unique for their first live-action Disney+ series, and I like seeing these two talented actors in a weird space like this.

Episode 1.1
Prismark1017 January 2021
This is an odd Marvel sitcom. The Scarlet Witch and Vision have their own show and it is a homage to The Dick Van Dyke Show and Bewitched.

The first episode has the two superheroes living in 1950s suburbia. With sitcom staples such as the boss coming round for dinner but the wife does not know about it due to some misunderstandings.

It is a loving recreation of the era with a nosey neighbour who loves to gossip. There's even a fake advert for a toaster. It is shot in black and white with canned laughter.

It is very meta but not really funny and very left field. There are hints of something else is going on. Wanda and Vision realise that they know very little about themselves.

The first episode gave me a Pleasantville vibe.

I'm intrigued and struggling to wrap my head round it at the same time

From the second wandavision begins it throws you right into a typical old black and white sitcom right down to the theme song. You dont get an explanation or anything. You are just along for the ride. And I am so intrigued by the premise its so different and weird and original. I love it.

WandaVision

Everyone is misunderstanding this show. The comedy is meant to be forced, it's meant to be like a sitcom and it's meant to be confusing. Stop demanding action and explanations, this is what you signed up for.

What are people on about? This is average at best.
thomasheaney15 January 2021
This is only the first episode, so the series as a whole cannot be judged by this alone. The first episode is just a random take on a 1950's sitcom with no context and background. Spent the whole episode wondering when they were going to give me a genuine reason to be interested. The comedy is classically cringey as well. When I see people saying "Marvel is back on form!", all I can do is question how bad they had previously found marvel content in order to say such a thing. This was mildly entertaining at most... and yes I will carry on watching it haha.

Don't understand all the hype.
achtanin15 January 2021
I've been a MCU fan since 2011, almost half of my life, watched everything they have released under Marvel Studios and Marvel Television but even Inhumans seemed more interesting that it is now. You don't have to be a hater to admit that it was boring and forgettable.

Great start

Episode one does the great job of setting up westview whilst giving us no idea how thye are there and what the actual story is we see peaks of a possible plot comiong about and it's all a big mystery. The end of the episode was great however I do feel some people will not like this style. I love this episode and will be sure to rewatch it later on.

Warning: Spoilers
This is going to be one of those shows that divides viewers. Half of us will love it, half of us will hate it. I can't fairly review the show because there's clearly something mysterious going on that we don't quite know yet. However I do think the 50/60's sitcom shtick is going to get played out real quick. The odd choking scene was the best part. It made me feel uneasy and I wasn't expecting to feel something like that watching a Disney plus feature. I'm intrigued, but I feel like the payoff won't be worth this odd mystery. It seems pretty obvious this is just Wanda creating alternate reality post Vision's death. Well find out.

Where's your imagination people?
maximovlE16 January 2021
This first episode was awesome. The only complaint was the length, why so short?

People complaining about the style and effects, really? So clueless it's not even worth explaining.

It's Marvel, there's going to be twists. I don't expect for one minute that the whole series will simply be a 50s style sitcom. If it is? I'll eat my hat (50s style comment there for anyone who doesn't understand.)

Intrigued!
JamesHunt1816 January 2021
First of all, it's certainly hard to judge the first episode of anything. I enjoyed the exaggerated sit-com format but agree that the episode seemed a little slow. However, I am very much intrigued in the direction this show will take since the possibilities are so varied given the characters already in play and what we already know they're capable of, and been through.

The tone already seems different in what we've come to expect from Marvel Studios so I'm hoping that Disney+ gives the creators more of an opportunity to tell stories with a different style, and Wandavision is a great way to explore that.

Admittedly, I did want a little more revealed come the end of the episode but in retrospect I'm happy they're not rushing with the details as the payoffs will be greater in time.

Not A Good Start
eikeyk15 January 2021
I disagree. It was boring, not funny, and the whole sitcom thing was way overplayed. Also, the length of the credits were a quarter of the entire episode.

It wasn't really good, but wasn't bad at all.

I really think that you should try to be pacient while watching it, because this is just the first episode of 9, and i really hope and think that this will be a great and weird (in a good way) TV show

Something different!
injury-6544716 January 2021
I have to admit I enjoyed this first episode quite a lot. Quirky and charming. The corny jokes were spot on for the time period being portrayed. I'm not the biggest Marvel fan but I'm intrigued by this premise.

It's feel good fun and I was pretty much smiling the whole time. Excited to see where this series will lead. I applaud the bravery in trying something so bizarre! Great start.

is this a joke? Boooriiing...!
nestorgeb-116 January 2021
It is clear that everything that happened so far is part of a parallel reality, that at some point (I hope not long) the truth of what is happening will be revealed. But ... two episodes with this? Really..? With half an episode of this kind of introduction I was fine. Also, the sitcom attempt may seem novel, but the truth, beyond the recorded laughs, is very boring. I'm going to give it the chance of one more episode; if it persists with this boring and corny parallel reality line; bye.

A welcome introduction.
TheFirst0116 January 2021
This episode managed to be heartfelt and funny and it is a very welcome side to Wanda and Vision's alternate lives that we haven't seen before. Some elements are funny and some don't hit, as you would expect from a sitcom. But in conclusion, it makes you feel for the couple as they try to find ways to fit in the world they need to live in. I expect the next episode to amp up the intrigue more. I give this episode a 7.8/10.

Filmed Before a Live Studio Audience(Jan 15, 2021)

Homage to Classic TV history, WandaVision was a deliciously strange series premiere. I'm very impressed.

Elizabeth Olsen has wit ,style and charm in spades. Olson is stunningly gorgeous. Her comedic style was full of suave effervescence. Paul Bettany is doing a creative, humorous, fantastic job. Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany deliver the comedic goods. I wasn't excepting to laugh so much. Olsen and Bettany play well off each other and sell the comedic factor brilliantly. Expertly produced and spectacularly written. I will admit I am not up on the lore but I am invested and with seven more episodes after this one . Excited to see where this delightful strange series take me. This is wonderful television .

I came for Marvel and got a not-so-funny sitcom. Two episodes are way too long for laying the plot.

Uh... What?
demigodshmurda8 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Alright, I said I wasn't gonna watch any of the Marvel Disney+ shows, but people have been ranting and raving about this one, so I decided to give it a go. I have to say, I'm not really sure what I just watched, but I'm intrigued at the very least. Trust me, that's very welcome at this point. Getting me interested is something that's not easy to do these days.

For starters, they waste no time throwing us into this world Wanda and Vision are living in. They're happily married, and are moving to the suburbs for some reason. Wanda's taking her role as a housewife washing dishes, Vision's settling in at work and wondering what exactly it is they do there, Vision's boss is coming over for dinner. It's almost a regular suburban life with the exception that the two of them have superpowers. Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany have this really fun chemistry on screen, and if nothing else peaks your interest about the show, that should. No joke, the leads having chemistry is one of the things you take for granted after watching as much television as I have, but after watching Batwoman, this is a welcome return to form.

When Vision's boss, Mr. Hart, visits for dinner and chokes on something, we see the world starting to unravel. Mrs. Hart begins telling her husband to stop choking, but then she turns to Wanda and starts telling HER to stop. Immediately, we get a sense that Wanda has at least some control of this world. This scene is really tense despite not having much cgi or anything like that to back it up. The conflict is really internal and we're really left to wonder what's going on in this town, or at the very least with Wanda.

And then there's Agnes... I LOVE AGNES! No joke, Kathryn Hahn's delivery is incredible! The deadpan tone she gives off really suits this character, and I'm a huge fan of her so far. There's clearly something going on with her, we're just not sure what yet. She's here for a reason, and it's for more than just giving Wanda advise on how to please her husband. If nothing else, I'm intrigued with what her role is.

And then there's the effects. I really like how the effects are completely toned down for the sitcom style. Instead of Wanda's usual red color scheme, we get simple effects like objects levitating on strings and things of that nature. It's actually super fun to see the effects toned down like this.

As for the ending, it got me even more intrigued about what's going on. So WandaVision is a show inside of the show WandaVision that we're watching? How? Why? Who's the guy monitoring the screens and taking notes? How did they find out about this? What do they want with Wanda and Vision? I'm gonna assume this is something we'll find out more about as the episodes go on.

Overall, the sitcom scenes themselves were a bit cringey at times, but it worked well in terms of the episode, though it's not something I'm eager to rewatch despite loving shows like Saved By The Bell (the original, not the garbage new one) and The Brady Bunch growing up. Do I want to know more about what's going on? Yeah. Am I gonna keep watching? Yeah. Could I do without all the cringey sitcomish elements that not even Saved By The Bell leaned into a points? Also yeah. If nothing else, I'm intrigued, and I genuinely have no idea what I just watched.

6 / 10.

Not What I Was Expecting
tarheel7268111 March 2021
As someone who didn't follow all the information leading up to the show's premiere I was totally thrown off guard watching this first episode. It is nothing like any of the MCU's content we are used to seeing. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone reading this before watching the episode so I won't say why but you'll understand after watching. It's a very slow start to the show's main storyline but that storyline is intriguing enough to recommend watching still. Someone who is older than 65 to 70 years old might enjoy it more than I did but I can only give it a 3/10 rating!

In a fan of the 1950's so this episode was very good for me. It doesn't have a lot of MCU references but other than that it's really good.
