Breathtaking
Dropofwater2 December 2020
This show is just breathtaking, just the right pacing. I understand why some people might not like the pacing, since we live in a world where everyone needs instant satisfaction ... But this show isn't about that. I havent read the Book, never watched the movie and I'm totally hooked. There's so much mystery and symbolism in this universe. Visuals are stunning, actors are fantastic, especially Ruth Wilson, dialogue is well writen. What else to ask for ? This is as good as fantasy show can get.

Lee & ms coulter INCREDIBLE
brentkingery-937-54110823 December 2020
My God that Scene between Lee & Ms Coulter is incredible! I don't think either of them could have acted better or had a better script to read from! This show is an incredible additive to this world if you have read the books. And my guy lOves it just as much and he hasn't read them! Love this episode!

I love this show

Each episode is getting better and better. And visuals r just amazing. I understand why some people r bored by this show because there is so much to know and so far we know nothing. What is Lyra's destiny, who will she betray and so on and on. Bdw, the dagger which was talked in this episode can cut through worlds. It will be amazing to see how it will be used

Naivety

In Cittàgazze, Lyra decides to go to Oxford to meet the scholar Mary Malone, despite the warnings of Pan and the alethiometer. She leaves a note to Will and heads to St. Peter to Mary's office, but police officer is interrogating Mary. When Lyra arrives, she flees and stumbles upon Carlo Boreal's car, who offers a ride to her. She accepts and later she asks him to stop, but he forgets her backpack in the car. However, Carlo calls her to deliver the backpack. But when she opens it, she learns that the alethiometer was stolen by Carlo. She waits for Will seated on a bank and they decide to look for Carlo. Pan recalls that he gave a card to her when they first met each other in the museum and now they will seek him out. Meanwhile, Mrs. Coulter confronts Lee Scoresby in the prison and she learns how engaged he is to protect Lyra.

"Theft" is an episode of "His Dark Material" with the plot based on a basic stupidity of the smart Lyra. The greatest question of this episode is how this girl that does no listen to anybody can forget her precious alethiometer in a car. This is a very silly way to proceed the lead plot. The attitude of the bipolar Mrs. Coulter is also unexpected. My vote is six.

I am not throwin away my shot

Warning: Spoilers
I speak for all book readers when I say we were all surprised when we saw two characters who have never been together in the books were seen face to face in the same room! (The room where it happens) All I can say is Lin Manuel Miranda and Ruth Wilson (blew us all away) with their acting. We learn that both of them love Lyra, in different ways. Lee just wants to keep her safe and Coulter wants to control her. We also get more character development as Lee says he was abused by his father when he was little, we also know Marisa went through this as a child. But instead of choosing light, she followed her parents into the darkness. I almost cried when Lee told his story, but when Hester pressed her face onto Lee's broken face, I started balling. And I continued when the monkey touched Mrs Coulters hand and she didn't slap him as she always did.

Why do witches enjoy watching it burn?
sumtim3s00n30 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
One witch is shown can destroy a whole submarine or zeppelin in a matter of seconds but hundreds of witches (they say, "hundreds of witches died") just keep on truckin' and let the bombs fall on their heads without doing anything. Does that make sense to anyone? And its not the only illogical thing. Stuff like that just makes it annoying to watch.

Theft
Prismark1029 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Lyra realises too late that even in Will's Oxford. You cannot trust everyone.

While being chased Lyra carelessly loses her alethiometer to Boreal.

This was a solid but unspectacular episode. The highlight being the meeting of Lee Scoresby who is being held by the Magisterium.

Scoresby meets Mrs Coulter and both share their traumatic upbringing. Something that gives them a common space and allows Scoresby to escape.

For Will it starts a quest for the subtle knife. The second series is very much into the second book of the trilogy.

Worst episode of the series
steffern26 July 2021
I absolutely despise when uncharacteristic and mindless mistakes are so obviously scripted for the sole reason to cheaply add additional drama, and this episode is just chock-full of it. It completely took me out of the immersion of the storyline and I found myself continuously shaking my head, sighing and face-palming. It's without a doubt the least pleasant viewing experience I've had so far in an otherwise engaging series, so I sincerely hope it picks up again.

It is geting worse and worse
DanMihaimovienoncritic30 November 2020
A series with such a great start that just got dumber and dumber. Season 2 is a total mess, just a story telling without any soul, cringe acting, cringe dialogues, cringe script. As an adult I find it impossible to take it seriously anymore. I am at the point of giving up following this series. The lady with the monkey and the church guys are the only ones that kept me invested so far. Lyra's actress is a good actress, but there is nothing she can do with such sinister directing and dialogues. No CGI can replace bad producers unfortunately..

At this point, it became just a dumb show for kids, there are no layers anymore, just a dumb story unfolding.

Overrated TV for the needy spoon-fed generation
namstonk23 November 2020
Well the positive first, excellent vfx, costume and sets. The negative, awful directing and apart from the brilliant Dafne Keen the acting is woefully bad (supplied by planks 'r' us). Follows more to the second book than any other episode but still lacks any soul, which is somewhat perverted irony.
