This is a very low budget film, especially the first ten minutes or so. As such I was prepared to nap my way through it but surprisingly it really picks up about twenty minutes in. From then on it's a perfectly good little movie that I quite enjoyed. There's no reason for the negative reviews. If anything it's a bit above average for its budget and genre.

Grew on me

OK I appreciate that some of these reviews are from members of the cast, and that it's not a 9 star movie. Honest review - The acting is generally pretty bad, that said, last acting I did was in the nativity play over 40 years ago, so who am I to judge. It might be the script that makes the actors seem Hammy which is more than possible as some of the dialogue is atrocious but I agree with some reviewers that if you get past 12 minutes it's not that bad. I think the ideas shown in this movie are great, the film just needs some heavy polishing.

Agent Cooper travels forward in time to the present from 1951 to track down three escaped aliens who want to contact their armada and destroy the planet (Apparently they couldn't wait for us to do it on our own.) The aliens can take over other people's bodies so the task is not so simple. Cooper enlists the help of Officer Lisa (Nadège August) who just discovered her fiancee (Kurt Long) is cheating on her. He doesn't explain the "alien thing" until he has to.
It wasn't the greatest science fiction film but was one that had characters that were as developed as the plot.
Guide: F-word. Sex. No nudity.

I'll dump a crap film at any point if I feel it's unwatchable. This was obviously a B low budg film, but really not too bad. Acting is OK, writing is OK, plot is OK (actually better than Avengers End Game). I actually liked it and that's saying something these days.
very competent indie

Has Potiential if You're Patient
papreppergal7 July 2021
This movie had a lot of potiential. Had the budget been a little higher and the script & plot been tweaked with just a more attention to detail, this could've been a really fascinating movie!
Unfortunately, as it is, it's a little hard to follow the plot, the acting could be a little better, there were plot holes that led toward questioning what was happening and why - out loud to other people who hopefully could fill in the missing link for you, and overall there was times it sort of dragged on unnecessarily while other times there wasn't enough details.
It was an ok movie, but not one I'd recommend or intend to see again.

Not bad, but temper your expectations
eddiec-129 April 2021
The acting is good, directing not bad. The writing/editing are a problem. I kept thinking about how much better this movie could have been. It doesn't need a much bigger budget, except to give this promising crew more time for rewrites, reshoots, and reediting.
There's a better movie hiding in here.

Comically amateurish but strangely watchable.
pjdickinson-2782213 August 2021
It features people you've never heard of before and never will again giving cringeworthy performances that wouldn't put a village amateur dramatic society to shame. However, even though the writing is laughably bad and everyone appears to be reading their lines for the first time it is strangely watchable and more than a little likeable. It's amazing what you can create with $100, a camera and a few hours to spare.
Not Bad

Warning: Spoilers
This 2019 sci-fi film features an FBI agent from the 50's who travels through time to catch possessive aliens, but with a female cop's help. Though, some of the acting is a bit wooden, this isn't a bad flick with certain elements of "The Faculty" & "Invasion of the Body Snatchers." If you like sci-fi flicks with time-travel or alien invasions, give this one a try.

Pleasantly Surprised
dgg-498137 May 2021
This is not a big budget sci-fi production and if you can get past the cheesy time travel effect at the movie's begining and hang on though some rough dialog until the two lead characters meet and begin interacting for a bit you might be pleasently surprised as well. Their relationship is the movie and it's not like you won't notice the rough edges, that's completely impossible, but at some point you will stop caring and just enjoy these two to a satisfying ending.
Good movie that could have been great with a bigger budget
arglebargle-4789313 June 2021
I enjoyed this film and -- despite a few people claiming it's terrible -- I found nothing really awful in it. Effects were about what you'd expect from the original Star Trek series. However, it's not a special effects film. All-in-all, they were in keeping with what was happening in the film.
The film has a distinct low-budget feel, but as it progressed I noticed that the camera angles and scene staging gave the impression that the director knew what he was doing. I looked up his previous efforts and found that he had directed a few well-reviewed shorts as well as having his hand in the film business in a variety of roles.
A few people pointed out that the dialog seemed wooden. I agree. I think the script could have used another re-write to smooth things out a bit. However, I was grateful that the film was devoid of the usual pile of idiots who are blind to the obvious. In other words, the types of characters that have to do certain things to move plot points: 1) see alien/strange behavior yet ignore it 2) do something nobody sane would do ("I'm going to give the terrorists what they want. Surely they will let us go then") 3) panics needlessly. I suppose that list could grow longer. Fortunately for my sanity, our time traveler at least tried to keep that to himself knowing the incredulity he'd face. And the incredulous tended to wise up when they saw the evidence.

Drama Class in Training
chipsdipsanddorks10 April 2021
This was painful. The dialogue was choppy. Every line given had no feeling. It's almost like they are reading from cue cards. I get it that the aliens might talk like
a robot, but the humans were also robotic. Of course not a single person in the film had any experience except what they learned in drama class. I gave up at 39:26 and went back to watching static. If you can make it the 1.5 hours, then there must not have been anything else on. Don't get me wrong, it's by far not the worse film, but it's painful. Good luck.
High watchability-to-budget-size ratio
Sophiapediac20 May 2021
It's not a completely original story; it starts out almost exactly like The Hidden (1987), only with three bad body-hopping aliens pursued by one time-traveler posing as an FBI agent, along with a reluctant local cop who has to be convinced these are aliens, instead of one bad body-hopping alien pursued by one good body-hopped alien posing as an FBI agent, also along with a reluctant local cop who has to be convinced, etc. (Also note that the FBI agent here is named "Cooper," which was Kyle MacLachlan's character's name in "Twin Peaks"; MacLachlan played the FBI agent in The Hidden.) Also, the idea of a time-traveling good-guy and/or cop from the past chasing one or more bad guys into the future was used in the movie Time After Time (1979), among others, and more recently in the TV series Continuum (2012-15), and probably a few others whose titles I can't remember.
That said, it's a good movie, considering the low budget. The supporting cast could be better, but the two main characters are well-acted enough. The special effects and dialogue are probably the biggest weaknesses, and there are plenty of cliches involved, but overall it's worth seeing, and maybe even fun in spots.

Filled with Feminist Tropes...Not Worth The Time
tedingalls23 May 2021
Could only stomach 30 minutes...it already had multiple severe continuity errors (different clothes from one scene to the next), "strong independent women" at every turn, every feminist trope from the first minute...it's never ending social justice garbage.
Low budget but....!
jeffstevens3817 May 2021
This was unexpectedly an enjoyable film in which the two leading actors carried the story well.
It would have benefited from a larger budget on effects but otherwise ok. Reminded me of the old tv series "The Invaders"

Painful to watch

Don't waste your time, even if you have binged watched everything during COVID, and this is the last movie you have not seen. The script was blasé, and the acting felt like one of those LMN movies where the actors really think they can act, sort of like when someone thinks they can sing when they can't. If you want an alien movie with comedy, rewatch any of the Men in Black series, if you want an action alien version, watch Edge of Tomorrow, or you could go old school and watch the original Alien - one of the most classic alien movies. Actually, just about any other alien movie but this one.
Maybe, could it? Yes it could!
cuspubgb20 August 2021
It's been suggested that the first 10 minutes of this film is, well, a little on the ordinary side of the equation. Which is true. But whatever you do, go into this with your eyes open and enjoy the ride.
We all understand that it was made on a very low budget, but it certainly didn't matter. The end result was one out of the box: once you accepted some average scripting, the little girl as we closed in on the finale should spend some more time working on her acting, while the special effects were pretty darn corny.
But what really made this movie a bit of a pearler in my eyes, was the two lead actors performances. First up, Nadège August put in a Stirling performance and is absolutely sexy as hell, while her surprise partner Blake Boyd was simply awesome.
I shouldn't really mark down my rating given the budget for this movie is reportedly around $200,000. Perhaps I should have added another star! Frankly, for such a low budget it certainly kicked way about its weight.

Loved the Story
sflanagan-4767626 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Instead of watching the Oscar's I decided to throw this on and wasn't disappointed.
The story was good and they did an adequate job of character building with the time they had as I definitely felt for both Cooper and Lisa and their individual situations. It was great to see Cooper waiting for her when she returned from 1951 and recruit her into the Men in Black organization.
The special effects aren't going to win any awards here, but I felt they did a good job with what they had.
Would love to see a couple follow-up movies with these characters. Perhaps they could be the Men in Black movies we all deserve.
