When Comedy Does It Right
StickTo17 June 2017
This episode of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was possibly the best one yet! Juggling between the hysterical c*** block of the perfect chauvinist (that only Tina Fey could write), and the baffling student gender theorists; the episode had sculpted performances all round. The comic timing was perfect, not only in dialogue but also visually. Jokes were established and concluded at exactly the right time; Something rarely done properly in mainstream TV. It managed to pack a multitude of contemporary western feminist issues into one gloriously satirical, swift and brief episode. It was the best comic relief for conflicted and disheartened feminists like myself, and one of the few well executed bits of American comedy I've seen in a while.

Wannabees!

I don't have much to say about this episode. The main part of it involves college girls attempting to be feminists and blowing it as soon as they get to a party. Kimmy is confused (well that's new). Xan is around and working her negative magic. Kimmy tries to connect with the young guy she met before she went to Columbia, but her inherent density gets in the way. She can't hear the word "Reverend" without going ballistic. We have the continuation of Jacqueline's hopes to continue a relationship with Russ but there are numerous pitfalls, mostly caused by his ridiculous family, a group of immoral asses.

Warning: Spoilers
Xan was the star of the show tonight with her drunken behavior, topped by running away from Kimmy and "getting back on the bus".

Josh Charles is trying with this role, showing much more emotion and interest than he did the last few years on The Good Wife, but the material isn't there for him. Those scenes in Jacqueline's apartment were kind of brutal to watch.
