The miniseries "Sweethearts" gets off to a nice start with various genres mashed up. Three couples get together at a remote campsite for their reunion recalling high school days together, and the elements of romance and drama amongst them are set against a backdrop taken from Slasher Film territory.
The actors do a good job of setting up clashing personalities, especially Small Hands who is cast as a misfit and the odd man out in the group. Also, a mysterious redneck who gives two sets of couples a hard time on the roadside (played by a tattooed guy with the unlikely stage name of "Uncut James" -apparently a circumcision joke) figures prominently.
Main thrust (literally) of the first episode is an overlong sex scene featuring Small Hands with Anna Claire Clouds, introducing infidelity right away, while the four other stars are toasting marshmallows by the campfire. There's no screenplay credit listed, not a good sign.
