"YOU DIDNT KNOW?"
operez-2788726 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Spoiler free review In my opinion, this is has to be the best episode of the entire series so far. HUGE lore reveal and storytelling for the series. This episode managed to show the somewhat broken system heaven has going on and that corruption still lives up there. It also made sure nothing felt rush in this episode and had many interesting plot lines to follow. Lastly the final song of this episode might have been the best one yet. Seeing the old song be brought ups and changed was soo cool to see. The way it was done to further the story was a chef's kiss.

. .

. Spoiler Review So some people may brought up how Angel dusts redemption/change may have come to quick and to that I wanna say you didn't know him. In the series so far we have seen that Angel dust is a good person who wasn't given many choices growing up and eventually fell to temptation. He isn't pure evil like other sinners but was just somewhat corrupted by people who took advantage of him. Augh Vaggies reveal of being an angel exorcist was really shocking to me. When I saw theory videos of that I just couldn't believe it and was just a good way in the writing to bring down Charlie. Heaven's corruption is real and was shown in this episode through Adam's actions and having the extermination a secret. Finally but not least the ending song "you didn't know" was the best. I fricking loved Charlie's duet with Serenity and their change in Adam's song "Hell is Forever." It was such an excellent way to further tell the story through a very entertaining and well written song. I believe/theorize the story is gonna end up having the reveal that Lilith was killed and having Charlie team up with the overlord to fight back against heaven's assault on the Hazbin hotel.

A perfectly written twist (no spoilers)
awesometrey-4870726 January 2024
This episode was nothing short of a masterpiece. This episode has the most world building and considering the title of this episode I don't think I need to explain why. As we get our first look into heaven and how that system works. While there we get a bombshell of a plotwist that felt surprising but also not out of nowhere as previous episodes did hint to it. But you'd only pick up those hints after the twist is already revealed. Which is the perfect way to also make a show rewatchable as hazbin hotel so far has proven to be a series that is best watched twice. First time for the surprises. Second time to see what you've missed with the context you lacked before.

Well, that happened

Warning: Spoilers
Ok so... Positives: heaven wasn't just full of more jerks like Adam that literally have no difference from the demons. The angel designs were interesting enough. The second musical number reincorporated "Hell is Forever," which was nice.

Negatives: the first musical number was boring. Why is St Peter the only human-looking person in heaven? Why does Cherri have a terrible accent now? Why does Sir Pentious obsessed with her??

I like the design of Sera but like... Vivzie has shown in Helluva Boss that she can reference existing demons- so why are the Seraphim just... Generic names? I know that Sarah is a Hebrew name but it's not like... An established angel name.

Also, way to go reusing the whole "we'll use Angel Dust as our flagship resident" segment from the pilot. I guess it arguably went better this time?

I can't comment on the twist because I accidentally spoiled it reading Vaggie's wiki. And now I understand all "the Good Place" comparisons: no one knows how heaven and hell selection work. That final musical number should've been like... Peak tension but I was just bored so...

Also, why does Emily just instantly trust and side with Charlie? That seemed way too easy.

Good Episode shame about the horrible attempt at an Australian accent
shan-phantomhive26 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The episode was a great one Cherris show debut but I wasn't pleased with an American voicing a character that is an Australian. He voice actor was OK at best. It would have been better if she was voiced by an actual Australian. If Viv can get an Aussie youtuber to voice Mammon, what stopped the casting of an Australian for Cherri. I do however love them showing the clear progress being made with Angel and how hw stood up for himself with Valentino. Loving the back stories to the characters and how they are forming friendships even when they have personality clashes. All in all it is a good episode even if there is a twin for Charlie and her singing with a massive plot twist at the end of the episode.

I don't care anymore
windywingpony1 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I'm pleasantly surprised by the angel designs. I was worried they would all look like Adam and have horns. That is the most positive thing I can say.

Vaggie's backstory was good I guess? I don't really care about her.... and Adam is finally in this episode! He is the only villain who has been an actual threat for the hotel. The angels and Charlie putting Adam in his place was satisfying to watch, since they made him extremely annoying. Don't know why they haven't thrown him out yet.

The songs are fine too and I like the angel characters Sarah and Emily. Although the rest of Heaven is kind of just skimmed over and barely introduced. The people in Heaven just stand around singing all day or something? Do they have economics? Heaven kind of feels lifeless, futuristic and plasticky. Shopping centres look more welcoming. Do they have plants, trees, flowers or pets? Please tell me they have dogs in Heaven.

And It's kind of stupid they don't know who/what chooses people to go to heaven and hell. Doesn't god decide? Where is he?

Charlie did come unprepared, she hasn't really redeemed a whole bunch of people. If I am right, she had 6 months to prepare (the time skip is such BS). Sure there is Angel and Sir Pentitious, but I think it would be smarter to gain more redeemable characters before going to the angels, when so much is at stake. She just put hope in Angel Dust. Husk talks to him more than her! How does she know he's a good person? She should be thanking the lord Angel Dust conveniently decided to be better in this episode, because she doesn't even know him. Wouldn't it be better to put Sir Pentitious on the spot, since she sang a song with him learning how to say sorry?

Angel Dust is my favourite character so far, since he has the most going for him. Angel Dust's redemption arc has me intrigued. Choosing to be better with Husk's influence. I'm slowly getting around their dynamic, since the show isn't forcing anything romantic between them. Which I was really worried about.

Anyways, I hope Valentino dies the most painful death imaginable. If the creators were signing for the 'worst fictional villain' competition, they'd won. But something irks me about his design, since I've seen some fanart and edits that give me nausea. If he was some ugly, no neck, huge stomach drunken old dude, it would suit him so much better..... Is the creator scared to make ugly characters, because why would you decide to give a r*apist an attractive design? But that's just a small pet peeve of mine

It's pretty apparent the writer of the show doesn't have professional experience on how to write a coherent story. The pacing, timing of jokes, rapid character introductions and developments, worldbuilding. It's all just atrocious. You have so many original characters with charisma, but when you have to put them into the story, they just don't work. The premise had so much going for it! But the hotel doesn't matter, it could be a coffee shop, a school Charlie has opened, or a psychiatric ward. All that matters is the B plot with the angel extermination.

Overall, I enjoyed this episode. 5/10 because I love Angel Dust and I want to see him get redeemed. He is the reason I started watching this anyway.

Another rape joke
Ghostcat-7125226 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This series tends to be all over the place but in Episode 4 there was a very graphic rape scene with Angel Dust which was, i am hoping, meant to be seen as serious. However, this episode uses the implied gang rape of Pentious as the butt of a joke.

Honestly this show can't seem to decide if it wants to tackle serious topics with comedy or not and its becoming more and more tone deaf.

The musical numbers were a bit better in this however Emily amd Charlie have far more chemistry then Vaggie and Charlie which is a shame because one would think the main pair would have some form of chemistry. Alastor appears to have thinner skin in this episode and lashes out at not only Lucifer but Husker as well which felt very out of character for him due to in every other instance we've seen him collected, quirky, and for the most part Calm. This felt forced as if to imply that Husk and Angel are in fact in the same boat, which, has not proven true. Angel is constantly assulted in and outside of work and Husk was...threatened.

As this season speeds to the end I feel this was rushed and jam packed full of music with really no substance, a 5 month time skip which no context as to any progress or healing done by the patrons of the hotel (a poor choice as the whole premise used to be rehab for sinners), and a rape joke...

Not looking forward to any further episodes.

Honestly, this was the weakest episode thus far.
VolganHamishan28 January 2024
I was hoping that the Angels would be written to be more nuanced than they were. I have enjoyed the show thus far. But the Angels are pretty much written as I was afraid they were going to be: stuck up, and entitled. But to make matters worse, they are clueless and also have an absolute joke of a court system. The show switches from being a comedy to being serious and I guess this episode tried too hard to be a comedy on a part of the story that I think should have been done with more nuance. Adam is a poorly written character and the idea of the purge makes absolutely no sense. I have a bad feeling that the rest of the show is going to follow in this footsteps of angels=evil and demons=misunderstood and it was a predictable twist that sadly is going to take a lot of the impact away from what has otherwise been a fun show with some heavy moments and some banger tracks.

The episode with Vestille and Carmilla singing "Whateve It Takes" showing the politics of Hell's overlords and the power struggle that is going to unfold I think is a lot more interesting and it's unfortunate that the Angels are being reduced to a plot device like this.

With all of that being said, the songs for Hazbin hotel have been absolute bangers. I just wish that the story didn't continue to fall apart after this. I was promised a show about a hotel that was about reformation of lost souls in hell. Not a show that half-hazardly is trying to make some point about heaven not being as good as it's cracked out to be without providing any further context.
