Mary finds her voice.
Sleepin_Dragon21 October 2022
Some guests arrive at The Cottage, friends of Mike's, who have been very successful, and try to encourage Alison and Mike to follow their plan, meanwhile Mary tells Julian the story of how she found her voice.

I enjoyed this one, a funny episode, which spun plenty of different strands. The show often focuses on a few different stories, here though, there's a lot going on. We have the key element, which is Mary's story, and it's a brilliant one.

Favourite scenes, first off was seeing Mary berating the two men, and of course Robin's Bootiful comment about turkeys.

This produced one very revealing moment I thought, that scene where Annie departs, does that perhaps pave the way for a regular to depart thr show, normally when a plot device like this is introduced, it's normally for a purpose.

Enjoyed that, 8/10.

There's Something About Mary Warning: Spoilers
Mary's relationship with Annie is very sweet. It's a shame, though, that we don't get to see her relationship with Robin or Humphrey. Maybe they were leaving it open to the viewers' imagination.

It's also a shame that Julian dozed off through part of Mary's story. He doesn't know what he's got until two episodes later.

I loved the contrast between the Captain's adherence to routine and Kitty's spontaneity. The Captain seems to feel lost without a set, predictable routine, while Kitty is aware that they literally have forever to enjoy themselves.

It appears the Captain's closest friend is Fanny. Many episodes have shown that they are very similar. They like ordering people around and asserting control.

Meanwhile Alison and Mike host some old friends who have become victims of an insidious pyramid scheme, though it's described as being more of a cult. It's not very clearly defined, although Alison soon finds a way to deal with them. The truth really is stranger than fiction, or than a cult.

Episode 402

Warning: Spoilers
Kitty and the Captain ended up being the pair we didn't think we needed, but needed in the end. Great chemistry between those two vastly different personalities.

This was a huge dropoff in quality from the season four premiere though. A lot of this simply wasn't funny, and the episode definitely seemed to drag at times.

I like what Ghosts does more often than not, but some of the episodes, like this one tonight and the last Christmas special, just leave you scratching your head and wonder where the writers are getting their ideas from.

If you had to skip an episode of Ghosts this would be the one to do so.

Speak as ye choose

Mike has guests in the hotel. They are a successful couple who have made a mint in business and they know Mike.

They invite Mike and Alison to a business seminar where they discovered the secrets to their success. Unfortunately it just sounds a bit too culty to Alison.

Now they need to find a way to escape attending.

Thomas decides to go cold turkey to wean himself away from his infatuation with Alison. It is up to Pat Butcher to keep Thomas from lapsing and he seems to be a hard taskmaster.

As for Mary, she explains to the other ghosts, how she went from being meek to being acid tongued. All with the help of a woman named Annie. She found her way to finally depart from Earth.

Mary's story was nice and it allows some finality for the ghosts. There is somewhere for them to go to.

However I do think that this series of Ghosts is dragging somewhat. Just feels a little uneven.
