Hoping the Baby Thing Will Stop Dominating
Hitchcoc4 March 2018
There are two plot elements here. One is the arrival of Louisa's absentee mother who shows up at time time for some reason. Granted, she was informed of the upcoming birth, but she should have shown up month's before. The result of her arrival leads to some serious consequences. She is an utterly unlikable character. The other plot element involves Bert Large who is coming into conflict with a neighbor and his bar. The Large Cafe is in financial trouble because Bert is not a competent proprietor and he has a tenuous financial foundation. There is a little race called a "fun run" and Bert had hoped to profit from the people's need for food. His 'adversary" has put up a tent and is selling seafood and liquor and undercutting Bert (he is himself in financial difficulties and is using some illegal products). How Doc gets into it is that the owner of the other restaurant is having a series of ailments, including incredible back pain. Of course, Martin's bumbling around with the baby is another ongoing thing. I am new to this series. I'm hoping that the baby doesn't dominate everything from now on. It wears a bit thin for me at times.

Louisa might have been better off had she been raised by wolves!
planktonrules28 April 2015
The main plot in this episode concerns Louisa's mom, Eleanor. Totally unannounced, the woman just shows up and expects to stay with Louisa and Martin--even though Louisa's heard nothing from her for several years. Apparently, Louisa's mom is a very detached and cold woman-- the sort who did a lousy job raising her daughter yet is not the least bit apologetic. This combined with her father who is a thief serving time in jail makes you think Louisa might have been better off raised by wolves! But, surprisingly, Eleanor seems to have a knack for caring for the baby--as his crying stops and he seems to be in good hands when she cares for him. But, of course, there IS a catch--and Louisa has got to confront her mother and decide if she wants this lady back in her life. Additional plots involve a local charity run, a price war going on between a local publican and Bert as well as Ruth's decision to have Al come work for her full-time.

Overall, this is a very average episode--well written and enjoyable, though nothing of any huge consequence occurs in it as well. Worth seeing.
