- As the first annual Portwenn charity fun run leads to unfit casualties and a price war between Bert and publican Mark Bridge Louisa's feckless, long-absent mother Eleanor turns up at the surgery. Louisa is not overjoyed to see her but she proves to be a very useful baby-sitter - until it transpires that her soothing herbal infusion that she put in the baby's feed contains alcohol. However, Louisa, sensing that her mother meant well, goes behind Martin's back and asks her to stay around whilst Ruth takes Al on as her permanent farm manager.—don @ minifie-1
- Louisa and Martin are exhausted as the baby isn't sleeping well and is keeping them up at all hours. They're a bit surprised by the unexpected arrival of Louisa's mother, Eleanor. Louisa and her mother are not close but Eleanor says she's come to help and plans on staying for as long as she's needed. She certainly seems to have a positive effect on the baby who suddenly takes to long naps. Martin immediately becomes suspicious. PC Penhale is busy organizing a weekend fun run but the main entertainment seems to be the feud between Al Large and pub owner Mark Bridge after the publican sets up a large tent to serve proper meals.—garykmcd

- It's Portwenn Fun Day and the village is buzzing with excitement about this major fund raising event. PC Penhale is in his element rallying the runners and whipping up support. The event sparks culinary rivalry between Bert Large who runs Large's restaurant with son Al and Mark, the landlord of the Crab and Lobster pub. They are both keen to take advantage of the day to boost their takings by providing food for the runners and spectators. Also, Louisa's mother Eleanor (played by Louise Jameson) arrives unexpectedly, and Martin and Louisa find their son is sleeping through usual feeds until they find out her mother gave him some of her brew to calm him down.
