The Raindance Film Festival has announced its earlier-than-usual 2024 programme, with Hunter Schafer’s Cuckoo as the opening gala.
The 32nd Raindance Film Festival has announced its full programme for 2024, with Hunter Schafer’s horror-thriller Cuckoo serving as the indie festival’s opening gala film.
Moving away from its traditional autumn placement in the festival calendar, Raindance is occupying the (theoretically) sunnier mid-summer slot of 19th-28th June, with Curzon Mayfair, Curzon Soho, and The Prince Charles Cinema in central London, and Genesis Cinema in east London all putting on screenings.
2024’s opening gala film, Cuckoo, stars Hunter Schafer as a 17-year-old who is forced to leave her American home to live with her father and his new family as they move to a resort in the German Alps, managed by Dan Stevens as the resort’s mysterious boss.

Marvel Studios is on a streak. But not a good one at that. Things have not gone too well for the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever since the release of its magnum opus, Avengers: Endgame. What fans have witnessed since then is a run of mediocre projects, with the odd bright spots here and there to keep fans interested in the franchise. And it seems like they are having a hard time snapping this run. An attempt in this direction will be the WandaVision spin-off miniseries focusing on the witch Agatha Harkness. But even the miniseries has had its fair share of troubles.

Agatha started out as one of Vision and Wanda’s neighbors in WandaVision. But the Scarlet Witch soon found out that she was not who everyone thought she was.

Action comedy The Fall Guy starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt heads the new titles at this weekend’s UK-Ireland box office, opening in 702 cinemas through Universal.
Directed by David Leith, The Fall Guy is written by Drew Pearce and loosely based on a 1980s TV series of the same name about stunt performers.
Gosling plays a stuntman working on his ex-girlfriend’s directorial debut action film, where he becomes involved in a conspiracy surrounding the lead actor.
The Fall Guy debuted at SXSW on March 12; it is Gosling’s first credit as producer since his 2014 directorial debut Lost River.

We talk to filmmaker Kit Vincent, whose deeply moving documentary Red Herring explores his life with a terminal brain tumour.
At 24, my biggest concern was to graduate university and to survive another shift at a rowdy football pub just off of Baker Street Station. For Kit Vincent, it was to come to terms with a life changing diagnosis.
Kit was diagnosed with a terminal illness in 2018 and given between four and eight years to live. A few months after his diagnosis, he picked up a camera and began recording his life, exploring his relationships with those around him through the lens.
The result is Red Herring, a warm and thoughtful documentary about Kit’s life. The project started life as a film about Kit’s father, Lawrence, coming to terms with his son’s illness, but quickly developed into something more.
