"Ted" director and "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane, better known for his work behind the camera than in front of it, will host the Oscars. MacFarlane is no stranger to performing: He voices many of his "Family Guy" characters and hosted "Saturday Night Live" for the first time with this season's premiere. He also hosted last year's Comedy Central roast of Charlie Sheen. But his selection still breaks a long tradition of choosing an actor or comedian with an instantly recognizable face to host the ceremony. MacFarlane, 38, injects youthful energy into...

Poor Roseanne Barr. The 59-year-old Emmy winner—and prospective Presidential nominee—had no idea her estranged ex Tom Arnold was going to make a surprise appearance at her Comedy Central Roast yesterday in Hollywood. So did things get nasty? Let's just say, compared to the Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen, it all seemed tame (but still pretty darn funny). Pre-show, Barr wasn't sweating any of the impending insults from celeb roasters like Seth Green, Katey Sagal or Ellen Barkin. "I'm not nervous at all, I'm excited," she told us. "It's going to be a blast as soon as I get in there and start drinking!" Roastmaster Jane Lynch opened...

The last time we caught up with Amy Schumer, the comedian told us some of her funniest stories from the road. We got a chance to talk to her at Caroline's comedy club in New York, where she's performing this weekend, and she made us blush with her New Year resolution, how she spent her holiday, and what she thinks of Anthony Weiner.
We've gone on record as trying to end the boring "are women funny?" debate, and few comedians prove why better than Schumer. The minute the New York-bred comedian takes the stage, as she is doing this weekend at the venerable Caroline's, audiences would be foolish to question whether gender has anything to do with why they're laughing so damn hard.
If you're unfamiliar with Schumer, we doubt it will stay that way for long. After breaking onto the national scene in 2006 on "Last Comic Standing," she raised...

Comedian Patrice O'Neal has passed away at 41 after a long-term battle with diabetes. Though his career reached from radio (he was a regular on The Opie & Anthony Show) to TV (he recently had recurring role on "The Office") to standup (he was featured on "Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen"), it is his work in movies that we will remember most of all.
O'Neal made a name for himself with his own slant on dark, confrontational humor, but he was a master at the broad, big box office comedies as well — all but stealing the show with his performance in the hit "Scary Movie 4." (You know you saw it. Twice.)
He also dabbled in drama, however, appearing in thrillers like "25th Hour" and "In the Cut."
Matt Frost, O'Neal's booking agent, tells Entertainment Weekly, "Patrice is survived by his wife, Vondecarlo; his step daughter Aymilyon, sister Zinder, and his mother Georgia.

If comedy equals tragedy plus time, then either not enough time has passed or Charlie Sheen's self-immolation earlier this year wasn't really a tragedy. Because the "Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen" didn't do a whole lot for us on the comedy front.
Maybe it was because clips and accounts of the roast have been floating around since the moment the special started taping nine days ago, or maybe it's because most of the jokes sounded a lot like the Sheen jokes we've been hearing for the last six months, only with more cursing.
Or maybe, with the preponderance of jabs about Sheen's prodigious drug use and penchant for prostitutes, the roast just played like a very long, standards-and-practices-free episode of "Two and a Half Men." (Which, by the way, didn't let the death of Charlie Harper get in the way of at least a dozen sophomoric jokes in its season premiere.
