It's a story of spirit, spunk, guts and finally, victory. How Shraddha Kapoor said no to Yashraj's bikini clause, could make a great screenplay. But then, life is often stranger than fiction. And Shraddha Kapoor made her choice when she walked out of Yashraj Films into Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatts' Vishesh Films to Aashiqui 2.The rest, as they say, is history. But behind the historic success of Aashiqui 2, there is a story of conflict and dilemma. Apparently, Shraddha, who was at that point of time tied down to Yashraj Films and had already done a film Luv Ka The End with the banner, was expected to do two more films with them. "It was at this point of time that Shraddha was offered Atul Sabharwal's Aurangzeb from the Yashraj banner. It was the role of Arjun Kapoor's moll along the lines of the one played by Parveen Babi in Deewaar.

So vivid are the love-making scenes in Yash Raj Films' Aurangzeb that Shraddha Kapoor who was the Yash Raj heroine for their production Luv Ka The End refused the role.
Much to the shock of the company, we might add.
Says a well-placed source, "Shraddha was the first choice for the lead opposite Arjun Kapoor. No one at Yash Raj thought she'd say no to a lead role in a big Yash Raj production with one of the hottest newcomers as her co-star. But when Shraddha heard about the graphic nudity and intimacy, she simply opted out without a second thought and preferred to focus on Aashiqui 2 which is now her first big hit."
Apparently, like the other star-daughter Sonakshi Sinha, Shraddha is very clear about here dos and don'ts on screen. The explicit love scenes of Aurangzeb were a complete no-no to her family values.

The cast of the film Aashiqui 2, a sequel to the Rahul Roy- Anu Aggarwal musical blockbuster Aashiqui, has now been finalized. The film will be a love triangle starring Shraddha Kapoor opposite Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shaad Randhawa. The makers had conducted a nationwide talent hunt to cast fresh faces in the film, but unfortunately none of the participants matched their requirement. They then decided to cast Shakti Kapoor's daughter Shraddha, who was last seen in Y-Film Luv Ka The End, yesteryear actress Mumtaz's nephew Shaad Randhawa, who was launched by the Bhatts in Woh Lamhe and Aditya Roy Kapoor, who starred in Action Replayy and Guzaarish. According to producer Mukesh Bhatt, Aashiqui 2 would do for Shraddha, Aditya and Shaad what the first Aashiqui did for Rahul, Anu and Deepak Tijori. Aashiqui 2 is a contemporary love story. Jeet Ganguly will compose seven original tracks for the film.

There’s nothing quite as exciting as a list of debutants. Why? They are the future! They’re the ones upon whom all eyes are on. They’re the ones that even make the top heroes feel a bit shakey on their high pedestals. And so it’s time to congratulate and appreciate top 5 male debutants of the year who are now set to post some real threat to our superstars!
5. Vivaan Shah – 7 Khoon Maaf
Vishal Bhardwaj may have not gotten everything right with 7 Khoon Maaf but he certainly had a perfect cast in place. Thanks to him we have a #5 debutant of this list, Vivaan Shah, who just blew us away with portrayal of the grieving Arun whose love for a woman was never realised. The star kid left no doubt in the minds of audiences that he got his debut solely based on talent and name. Welcome to Bollywood Mr.

Our leading ladies and item girls will be nowhere near half as attractive without the talented singers that voice their musical numbers. What’s more, while our cinematic experiences with our on-screen goddesses have a time limit, our playback goddesses are always with us in iPods, tablets, computers, radios and more. This year Bollyspice salutes the 10 female playback singers who astounded us with their vocals throughout the year.
10. Neha Bhasin
Ms, Bhasin (of ‘Viva!’ and ‘Kuch Khaas’ (Fashion) fame) epitomised the image of a Punjabi rock chick and commanded a nation to rock and roll with her in ‘Dhunki’ (Mere Brother Ki Dulhan). While Katrina Kaif may/may not have done justice to her vocalisations, Neha sure did make a place for herself in our hearts and on this list.
9. Nandani Srikar
Ms. Srikar successfully vocalised a classical indian/rock fusion with ‘Bhare Naina’ (Ra.One) this year and proved that...

Playback singers are the unsung heroes of Indian Cinema (no pun intended). This year, for the very first time, Bollyspice would like to congratulate the following 10 male playback singers for their outstanding work in Indian Cinema in 2011.
10. Mika Singh
No one does a mass entertainer quite like Mika Singh and 2011 was no different with crowd-pleasing hits like like ‘Desi Beats’ (Bodyguard), ‘Dhinka Chika’ (Ready), ‘Saj Dhaj Ke’ (Mausam), ‘Pyaar Do’ (Thank You), ‘F.A.L.T.U’ and ‘Hero’ (Desi Boyz).
9. Shankar Mahadevan
Shankar Mahadevan began the year with a brilliant desi/urban mesh-up, ‘Rola Pe Gaya’ (Patiala House) and followed through with thought provoking ‘Der Lagi’ (Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara) and ‘Roshni’ (Aarakshan). However, it was the obscure ‘Chand Pal Ke Humsafar’ (Mod) that was the most impressive.

You probably first heard her name when she made a splash into the Hindi film music industry with her first solo playback song for Dev.D ‘Yahi Meri Zindagi’. But Aditi Singh Sharma leads a not-so-secret double life – juggling a blossoming career as an in-demand film playback singer, with life as a bona fide rockstar touring with her band Groove Adda. She even made her film debut in 2011, as Ranbir Kapoor’s guitar tech in Rockstar (kinda fitting, right?). We managed to pin Aditi down for a few minutes (while she was waiting to board a plane!) to ask her a bit about life in the musical fast lane.
Okay, let’s start at the beginning. What/who are your influences or inspirations?
I only came back to India in high school, I’ve been influenced by a lot of things that i have seen Now as opposed to what i remember from childhood.

Yash Raj Films introduced Bollywood to youth films with a vision to make films for the youth, of the youth, by the youth. Within just a span of one year, Y-Films became the defining launch pad for fresh talent. The studio has put up over 32 names of directors, actors, music composers, assistant directors, editors, DOPs, writers, costume designers, animators on the silver screen. But, having said that, these were not straight- outta-college newbies. Most of the talent launched has been around, assisting reputed technicians or making their mark in the advertising or television space for quite a while. What Y-Films gave them was a fabulous platform. And each of them now has a film to their credit. That too in a Yash Raj film!

This is perhaps the first for any debutant as well as a production house as big as Yash Raj Films. For Arjun Kapoor, son of prolific producer Boney Kapoor, Virus Diwan was the film that was supposed to be his launch pad. However, things changed drastically over last six months, hence leading to another project being designed for him, which has been named Ishaqzaade. "When Virus Diwan was announced at the beginning of 2011, it was going to be a relatively humble launch for Arjun. The film was being made under the banner of Y-Films, a new youth segment of Yash Raj Films. Others films that were slated to arrive under the same banner were Luv Ka The End and Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge, both of which starred newcomers", informs an industry source, "In fact there were photo sessions also done while publicity material of Virus Diwan too was released." For all those crazy Shraddha Kapoor fans here’s something you’ll love. Shraddha is now on Twitter and she tweets herself. No kidding, we hear that she won’t let anyone tweet for her as she believes it’s only fair for her to speak to her fans directly.
Shraddha, who has been making waves since her debut with Teen Patti, and Y films, Luv Ka The End, tweets herself, she also spends her free time replying (re-tweeting) to all her fans.
We asked Shraddha why the sudden addiction to twitter? “Twitter addiction well… Not really an addiction but more of a direct connection with my well wishers & for people who want to know anything directly from my mouth instead of it being twisted & turned by middle men. Also it’s nice to put my views out there & seeing what other people’s views are too”
So who do you follow?...

So is Arjun Kapoor's debut film Virus Diwan shelved? That's the news doing the rounds of the industry since quite some time. It seems, after Y-Films' first venture Luv Ka The End didn't fare as expected at the box-office, the Chopras and Ashish Patil, who is heading Y-Films, did some serious rethinking over their forthcoming projects and decided to start a fresh project with Arjun instead. However, Ashish Patil of Y-Films denies the rumor outright. "Virus Diwan is very much on track. The subject remains the same and so does the title. In fact, we are fine-tuning it, locking the dialogue of the film currently. We have also shortlisted three girls for the project." Bumpy, who had directed Luv Ka The End, is also directing Virus Diwan. "There's no change whatsoever. The only change is, we won't be releasing the film on 30 December, as announced at the outset.
