Salim Akil‘s Sparkle, a remake of the 1976 film of the same name, has already pulled in Whitney Houston, Mike Epps, and Jordin Sparks as leads. Variety reports on further additions to the lineup — musician Cee-Lo Green, Carmen Ejogo, Tika Sumpter, and Omari Hardwick. There was also the mention of R. Kelly writing original music for the project, although I won’t be interested if it isn’t about closets.
The original film told the true story of The Supremes; this may not, even though the story — “a music prodigy who struggles to become a star as she overcomes issues that are tearing her family apart” — sounds similar. Green will play “a singer who serves as the girls’ opening act,” while Ejogo and Sumpter have the parts of the lead character’s sisters, Sister and Dolores.

Haley Ramm will soon know the dangers that lurk along the Information Superhighway.
The "Skateland" star is the latest addition to the ever-growing cast of the anti-Internet drama, "Disconnect," according to Variety.
"Disconnect" is a "Crash"-style ensemble piece that explores various characters and how they are affected -- and in some cases destroyed -- by the Internet and other forms of modern communication.
Haley Ramm will be playing a popular but self-absorbed high school student whose younger brother (Colin Ford) falls victim to an online hoax perpetrated by two of his classmates. Jason Bateman, who joined the cast earlier this week, will be playing their overprotective father.
The cast of "Disconnect" also includes Alexander Skarsgard, Paula Patton, Frank Grillo, Andrea Riseborough and Michael Nyqvist.
Ramm appeared earlier this year in "Skateland" and in Kevin Smith's "Red State," which is currently available via Video On Demand. She also starred...

[1] Derrick Comedy may not be a household name quite yet, but it's likely you've stumbled across some of their work before. (At the very least, you're probably aware of its most famous member, Donald Glover.) The comedy group met as students at Nyu, and quickly gained a following for their Internet videos, including "Bro Rape" [2] and "Blowjob Girl," [3] featuring a pre-Office Ellie Kemper. Derrick Comedy then made a leap to the big screen in 2009 with Mystery Team, an underrated indie comedy about three naive high school detectives who get in over their heads. Now the film's director, Dan Eckman, has lined up a couple of new projects that'll reunite him with some of his Derrick Comedy teammates. Read more after the jump. On a recent visit to the Community set, Collider [4] learned that Eckman had signed on to direct an episode of the series, which of course stars his Derrick Comedy colleague Glover.

Mystery Team director Dan Eckman has lined up a couple new directing projects coming up, that I wanted to point out to you. I don't know if you saw the comedy Mystery Team or not, but the movie is a great comedy that I suggest you watch if you haven't seen yet. Eckamn most recently directed the MTV film Worst. Prom. Ever. This is a talented guy who is surrounded by talented people, and there's no doubt that he's a rising director in Hollywood.
It was recently revealed on Collider that Eckman will be directing the 13th episode of Community, which is one of my favorite TV shows right now. It was also revealed that he would be directing an adaptation of the book The Boy Who Couldn’t Sleep and Never Had To written by DC Pierson who played one of the lead characters in Mystery Team. The story...
