Hard Revenge, Milly Bloody Battle: Great sequel but doesn't finish the story
Platypuschow27 September 2017
Bloody Battle follows on from the previous years Hard Revenge Milly short film which surprised me with it's competence.

This feature length (Though still a tad short) sequel continues Millys story and does it once again in the over the stop gory style of the first and it works so very well.

From the great fight sequences, over the top action and general quality I was engrossed but the universe in which its set is barely touched upon which I found a shame. Why have it in a post apocalyptic world if you aren't going to show this?

The biggest problem the movie has is that it's incomplete, it feels like the 2nd part of a bigger story and as of now there are no sequels and therefore unlikely to be. The finale and everything about the story desperately needed a 3rd movie and so the story will forever remain incomplete.

Fun fast paced action for those aware that this is ultimately an incomplete franchise.

The Good:

Awesome fight sequences

Very well made

The Bad:

Still doesn't introduce us to this post apocalyptic Japan

Incomplete story without a sequel

Things I Learnt From This Movie:

When raping a corpse leaving all their clothes on works equally as well using the new magical ghost penis which doesn't let pesky clothes get in the way *Insert advertising jingle here*

Nunchuk gun is just about the coolest weapon ever created

The pinky superman punch is a fear inducing fighting technique

Calling a person who saves your life a bitch is standard etiquette

When you have metal hands it still makes sense to equip brass knucks

Better then the 1st
mmushrm23 March 2011
Hard Revenge, Milly: Bloody Battle is the sequel to Hard Revenge, Milly. It is a better movie then the 1st one. bloody Battle is 70mins compared to the 44mins of the 1st movie. This allows more of a story and plot line. The character of Milly undergoes some development and there is actually a background substory that seems to be setting up for follow up sequels.

Like the 1st movie, the action scenes are quite good with the editing making the fights look very good. To fully comprehend Bloody battle, you will need to watch Hard Revenge. Bloody Battle's main plot line is Milly being hunted by the friends of the baddies she killed in the 1st movie.

While not great its an OK movie with OK acting and action.

Low rent, blood geyser gushing action

BLOODY BATTLE is the feature-length follow-up to HARD REVENGE MILLY, although clocking in at a mere hour and eleven minutes means that it's still a short and snappy film. It's very similar in style and feel to the first short movie, which is no surprise given that the cast, crew, and director are all the same.

There's a little more plotting here than before, with depictions of a post-apocalyptic society based on trade, and a few nods to MAD MAX. The villains are more random and more likable, but they don't have the repulsive reputations of the guys in the first film. Miki Mizuno remains an impressive presence as the titular ass-kicker, using her mechanised body to dispense justice to those stacked up against her.

As before, the real hero of the piece is director Takanori Tsujimoto, who crafts something memorable out of something very little. The non-action bits are staid and unremarkable, but the action scenes zing with vitality and energy, much like in the low budget Japanese zombie film VERSUS, and the fight choreography is top notch. Tsujimoto fills his little movie with plenty of gruesome action, and it works a treat. HARD REVENGE MILLY: BLOODY BATTLE is hardly the stuff of greatness, being an exceptionally slight piece, but that it's watchable at all is the biggest surprise.

Hell begins here
nogodnomasters30 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This happens after the apocalypse which from what I can tell was cause by the Jack brothers killing families creating copycats. Milly survives and becomes partially mechanical, i.e. "Planet Terror" shotgun leg. Also has an arm blade, and don't ask about the chest. The film consists of her fighting and killing the Jack brothers with blood shooting out of bodies like a fire hose, even the severed part not connected to the heart. Not much plot and Japan has yet to master dialogue.

Guide: F-word. No nudity. Gay necrophilia rape.

The very definition of bad ass.

This is how all action movies should be edited.

Following the events of Hard Revenge, Milly, the title's Milly now finds herself being hunted by the loved ones and relatives of the ones she once murdered.

Now an empty shell, Milly just keeps on killing, looking for a place to die. Until Haru shows up, asking for her help to exact revenge on the ones who killed her lover. Both then go on a journey trying to escape from two brothers who hunt Milly for revenge.

The gore amount is ludicrous. It's actually so exaggerated it takes away from what could be a serious toned movie. Even the slightest bruise bleeds like water coming from a sprinkler. Nevertheless, the kill scenes are amazing, with part of heads being blasted out, jaws being - literally - dropped, and much much more.

Surprisingly, the acting is great by Nao Nagasawa and Miki Mizuno. Also, kudos to the fight choreographer, because those are some of the most amazing fights ever! Also, as mentioned on the beginning of the review, the editing is pitch perfect, with fast cuts, but it still shows everything that happens, unlike, say, The Wolfman. The two female characters are also likable and believable, but the two brothers are crap.

All in all, a great way to spend 70 minutes.

quite a letdown

After thoroughly enjoying its precedessor, the "bloody battle" didn't turn out to be thaat bloody at all. way too much runtime is spent on needless talking and allegedly meditative moments of people smoking cigarettes or just staring while pretentious music plays. sure, we get a few red fountains, stabbings and dismemberments, but they pile up towards the end while the first half is annoying to sit through. only real good part is the fighting choreography.

with a rumtime twice of part one, i expected to have this additional time filled with more violence and intentive kills - instead, it tries too hard being "kill bill" and building up something that's probably supposed to be a plot. retrospectively speaking, i wish i hadn't spend a fair amount on the double feature dvd. and if this was actually uncut, i can only imagine the boredom enduring a cut edition.

Even better than the first movie...
paul_haakonsen4 July 2012
"Hard Revenge, Milly: Bloody Battle" continues where "Hard Revenge, Milly" left off. Not only is it a direct continuation of the first movie, but it is even better than the first one, which was amazing.

The storyline in "Hard Revenge, Milly: Bloody Battle" is deeper than the first movie and gives more room for character build and backgrounds, which adds more to the story. And again, as in the first movie, the people cast for the roles really pulled it off so well that it was a real treat to watch. Again, hats off to Miki Mizuno in her role as Milly.

"Hard Revenge, Milly: Bloody Battle" is also longer in playtime compared to the first movie, and it keeps up the same level of professionalism and great production value as in the first movie. It just delves deeper into the story where as the first movie was more superficial.

"Hard Revenge, Milly: Bloody Battle" delivers even more action than the first movie, more blood and mayhem, and more fighting. And as in the first movie, everything was just well-choreographed and shot, making the sequel even more enjoyable.

I was lucky to get a double feature DVD from Amazon, containing part 1 and 2 on one disc, and that was a real bargain; two amazing movies a low price and on one disc (should be said that usually I don't buy movies that have multiple features on one disc, but in this case, it was a great investment). Both movies have lots of entertainment value, and is really better selections of the Japanese blood/gore/splatter genre. There are many, many dubious and laughable movies in this genre, but "Hard Revenge, Milly" and "Hard Revenge, Milly: Bloody Battle" drives the nail right home and climbs to the top of the genre.

If you enjoy Japanese movies, splatter movies (of the extreme Japanese genre), action movies, then you need to treat yourself to these movies, because they are nothing short of spectacular.

Better than the first movie, "Hard Revenge, Milly: Bloody Battle" have some really good fighting and action scenes, in-depth character build, and good performances, providing for a great, wholesome entertainment.

"Hard Revenge, Milly: Bloody Battle" is a MUST watch!

More of the same, high quality.
RatedVforVinny3 November 2018
A much slicker movie than the first and with a higher budget; though this type of material does not (directly) benefit from a more polished treament. Still contains some brilliant action/fight sequences (that hollywood can only dream of) and i'm sure more 'Milly' films will follow. Well hoping so.

just as good as the first if not better
hoodho1 September 2020
Personally i wish this became a franchise because the story of milly and the subsequent need for others to thirst for revenge against her brought unlimited story potential. but sadly that was not to be as this was the final installment. Needless to say i thoroughly enjoyed this film. The actions scenes were top notch and I loved the addition of the new villain with a certain sexual fetish I will not reveal. I think the main thing to take from the film is that revenge will hardly ever bring real peace but for some people thats the only thing they have left to live for.
