Silly and Funny
mitchrmp30 July 2016
This is a silly episode that kept me laughing. When Brennan pays her respects to a dead co-worker, she accidentally touches him and immediately determines he was murdered. (Only Brennan!) Through this episode, the gang must investigate without letting the funeral guests know what's going on.

There are a lot of funny scenes here. Probably my favorite was Booth leading the group of mourners in a very chipper song.

At the end of this episode, Booth and Brennan have a morbid, yet cute, scene where they discuss what to do if Booth dies.

They all did a great acting job!

King of the Funeral!

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was hilarious! I must have laughed out loud at least 10 times! I really enjoyed this episode's unique change of pace from the usually darker episodes of Bones. Hodgin's toast was hilarious, Booth's song and dance was great, and we got a very cute B&B moment at the end. One of my favorite lines was when someone says to Brennan, "You realize you just insulted an entire race and culture," and Booth replies, "Yeah, she does that to everyone." Sweets also had a great moment in this episode where he offers some misperceived psychological advice. Watching this episode overall was an incredibly enjoyable 42 minutes of my life.

A dead funny episode, if you ask me

I laughed FAR too hard to at this ep. (8.5/10)

It's nice to see the show depart from the usual every now again, and this didn't disappoint.

The gang carrying the body out while Hodgins makes his speech never fails to make me laugh, even after watching it so many times. I only wish Caroline was in it - oh boy, that reaction would have been priceless!

(Ps the bloopers from this episode are literal GOLD).

Wake up

Brennan and the gang attend the funeral of a Jeffersonian colleague, only to realize he was murdered (this involves Brennan doing something to the corpse in its casket, while dozens of mourners mill about). To make sure she's right, they spirit the body back to the Jeffersonian for a closer look, just hours before it is due to be cremated. Highlights of this lunatic episode: Multiple -- and I mean multiple -- suspects, Booth singing and dancing to "Swing Low" and Sweets, momentarily left in the dark as to what's going on, having a very funny exchange with the funeral director, who has been left to guard the empty coffin from prying eyes. A great episode.

A must-see for Bones fans

Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the few entirely light-hearted episodes of a sometimes very dark series which I found to be a great fun. While I wouldn't want all episodes to be like this one, I thoroughly enjoyed it as a welcome change of pace. And because of it's uniqueness, if you're a fan of the show it's a must see.

You're clued in early on in the show that you're not to take this one too seriously. It has one or two of the funniest moments EVER in Bones or for that matter any show. But it stays true to the spirit of the series. Even though it is played for laughs everyone stays true to their character. Whoever directed this showed great judgement and knew not to have the characters over-act or try to be overtly funny. They are still behaving very real.

Among the highlights are a dance by Seely, the carrying out of the body witnessed by Hodgins, the funeral director handcuffed to the casket and using Bones' preposterous explanation of why the body can't be viewed and one of my favorite lines of all time when a professor says to Bones "You just insulted an entire culture!" and Seely replies "Oh, she does that to everyone."

If you watch this episode, sit back, relax, for heaven's sake don't look for plot-holes and enjoy one of the best 42 minutes on TV!

The best comic Bones episode
AMButterfly17 July 2012
Warning: Spoilers
The episode is mainly set on the wake and the funeral of a nameless colleague of the Jeffersonian Institute.

I love Bones because of the interaction between the main characters but this one had an excellent comic strike in it that I haven't seen in the series before. It focused on the relationships and situations instead of fancy examinations and experiments and it did it outstandingly. One of the best examples is when Hodgins spots Brennan and Booth stealing the body as he makes a speech in respect of the deceased colleague.

Both the main staff and the supporting actors and actresses were brilliant, the dialogues were spot on and I really enjoyed watching it. The highlight was when through a misunderstanding Sweets, the "educated" psychologist tells a guy who accidentally stabbed the victim that he's got nothing to feel guilty about.

Sure hope for more episodes like this, well done Mr Silverstein!

My Favourite Bones Episode
katiealisonobrien18 October 2021
Every single scene is just wonderful- It's a lighthearted funny must-watch that has a surprisingly heartwarming ending. I love Booth knows her so well that when she "solves" the crime he is the only one that understands what she's saying. It's just perfect. Highlights for me are, Hodgins panicking when Booth and Bones make their escape, Bones badly describing sex, and Cam unhappy that she has to wait for a lift.

It's a Hoot!
Hitchcoc3 February 2023
This is hilarious, a nice break from the somber stuff. When a colleague of the Jeffersonian dies, the gang attends the funeral. But bones, in her unique way, discovers evidence in the open casket, that the guy was actually murdered. It starts with using "translated" instead of murder when referring to what happened to him. While in a Sushi restaurant he was "translated." Of course, they had to figure out how to get the body back to the lab for further investigation. Hitchcock used a variation on this in "The Trouble With Harry." There are so many funny things going on, including Booth distracting the people at the funeral by getting them to sing. I hope there's no one out there who took this episode seriously.

"Booth, we are talking about translation"

Hi Bones Booth, Long-time listener, first time reviewer!

This is by far one of my favourite Bones episodes of the series. The funeral was giving cringey soap opera and I loved every minute of it.

It had everything - Bones' "sad" Grinch face, product placement of Angela's Matrix (even when they're stealing a corpse, Bones writers will still find a way to plug a car, I respect it), Hodgins' off-kilter speech, Emily's beautiful voice, David's...interesting rendition of "Swing Low" and of course, sexy times.

Cam and Bones lugging a dead body into the Jeffersonian on their day off? As expected, no questions from security. "Sir I'm a trained psychologist" never fails to make me laugh and it's now canon for me that Sweets introduces himself like this all the time. Also, the Bones Art Department deserve a round of applause because the eye syringe scene is one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen.

Even without all of this goodness, this episode is also home to some of the funniest Bones bloopers so it's an automatic 10/10 for me.

Thanks for making hump day's worthwhile Bones Booth - see you on the next one!

Sincerely, Mr Hank's Skank.

Brennen and cam: 'hey i think this guys been murdered' 'oh no! We need to steal his body and bring it back to the lab to confirm.' 'don't worry! Angela's brand new amazing Toyota with great gas mileage has enough room for this corpse' 'awesome' The rest of the episode coud've been absolute garbage but i still would've given it 10/10 for that 30 seconds.

Does not hold up over time

This episode of Bones has a lot of Weekend at Bernie's vibes, which I like a lot. It's fun to see a case that mostly takes place outside of the lab and with many possible suspects. But watching it now and seeing Booth sing and dance to Swing Low Sweet Chariot in the way he did. Just, wow. It was very cringe-y.

The Funniest Episode
chadwick-8695521 November 2023
This is the funniest episode of Bones.

All happens around a funeral of Hank Reilly, a member of the Jeffersonian.

I have no desire to spoil the ending.

The stealing of the body was hysterical. All the members of the cast did a superb job in their assigned roles. The episode was not about any one of them, which was, in this case, more entertaining than some deep-dive/drama into who is having what problem with whom. None of that.

The funeral director. Kelvin Yu, did a fantastic and believable job.

The interaction between Booth, Bones, Dr. Amayo, and Sweets was awesome. Sweets shows his knowledge. Dr. Amayo to Bones/Booth: "You people should work on your small-talk skills"

Even the analysis of the death, and its circumstances, seemed almost credible, which is amazing for the Bones show.

I have watched this episode several times and never fail to laugh.

Enjoy.

The Ending was dumber than the rest of the episode. (Contains Spoilers)
mystic2322 April 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was not as good as a typical Bones episode for a variety of reasons. The judge wouldn't give the injunction because Bones is famous. That doesn't even make sense, why not call another judge, or have Cam look at the body. They steal the body and Hodgins chokes up about it. Why- he does dumber things all of the time. The drama was so cliché- the wife fighting at the funeral with the mistress, and Booth reuniting everyone with Christian song. The reason for the murder was even dumber. The mother kills her son, so that her stepson can get his fair share of the inheritance. What a stupid reason to kill someone. The son was trying to share the money with his stepbrother anyway, but the lawyer said it was illegal. Why not just transfer the money after he inherits it. Then the mother dies because she used her medicine to poison her son. It made no sense at all.
