Bones: The Daredevil in the Mold (2011)
I hope that ring washed ashore...
Hi Bones Booth!
The episode itself was mid - you can call who the murderer is simply from the slightly longer shot on their cast when we're first introduced. Fisher is back and it's always a joy when he's at the Jefforsonian. We also get an appearance from Noel who is just hilarious. I'm so glad we got to have him interact with Sweets - I would've paid good money to see Noel interact with Fisher.
Now on to the real meat of the episode - Booth and Hannah. After a drunken night out, Sweets and Booth agree to propose to their respective partners which is a terrible idea. Even the way Booth comes to that decision is awful. It comes across as quite reactive to Sweets' comment and if Booth was thinking clearly, he should've remembered how Hannah reacted to that 'non-proposal" last time.
Honestly, after many rewatches I struggle to feel bad for Booth during the proposal. You don't spring a proposal on someone out of the blue. I think either A***** or A**** (from the podcast) put it best a couple of years ago - "Don't propose to someone if you don't know if they're going to say yes". If Booth had really listened to what Hannah was saying, he would've known not to propose.
I hate Booth's comment about women not wanting what he's offering paired with the "I'm just really mad at all of you" line to Bones - it just gives major "I'm a nice guy" vibes which is icky.
Overall, a forgettable and boring case but Fisher and Noel liven it up. Booth brings it back down
Sincerely, a Booth lover I promise (he just didn't handle this right imo)
Bones: The Double Death of the Dearly Departed (2009)
"Booth, we are talking about translation"
Hi Bones Booth,
Long-time listener, first time reviewer!
This is by far one of my favourite Bones episodes of the series. The funeral was giving cringey soap opera and I loved every minute of it.
It had everything - Bones' "sad" Grinch face, product placement of Angela's Matrix (even when they're stealing a corpse, Bones writers will still find a way to plug a car, I respect it), Hodgins' off-kilter speech, Emily's beautiful voice, David's...interesting rendition of "Swing Low" and of course, sexy times.
Cam and Bones lugging a dead body into the Jeffersonian on their day off? As expected, no questions from security. "Sir I'm a trained psychologist" never fails to make me laugh and it's now canon for me that Sweets introduces himself like this all the time. Also, the Bones Art Department deserve a round of applause because the eye syringe scene is one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen.
Even without all of this goodness, this episode is also home to some of the funniest Bones bloopers so it's an automatic 10/10 for me.
Thanks for making hump day's worthwhile Bones Booth - see you on the next one!
Sincerely, Mr Hank's Skank.
