Where's the sheriff storyline?
aboalhyjaa22 October 2021
So you're telling me the school bus went off a cliff, at least 50 meters hight, and the only heavily damaged one is the adult? And the kids with few scratches? Unfortunately that's horrible writing and script for the second episode in a row. Hope things will be better or at least reveal some secrets to get us to actually like the show.

Puzzling story
opinionated-alchemist22 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
In a time, where science fiction fans basically watched ALL good science fiction movies and series, it is great to see some new high quality content coming out.

However... at this point, I am worried, that the show is unconventional in the making (some people might be bored and annoyed, by too much character development (...)) - but it lacks uniqueness when it comes to the science fiction content. What I mean, it is again the same - aliens attack and invade earth (not yet really seen 100% - but it is in the name).

But yes - the style is a fresh breeze - even though it is sometimes quite muted - and even borderline boring.

Even though- the acting is really great by everyone. Also the craft of the filming is great - hence you are really immersed in the happenings of the series.

But my problem (which I have with almost every single movie): I like to see the motivation of the aliens, the difficulty to reach earth - and then the justification, why going through all the trouble to reach earth.

I like to see new concept of lifeforms - and whole new concepts of technologies. I want to be wowed by the sheer creativity of the screenwriters (and the author of the original book).

In this light, I have little hope, that Invasion will meet my expectations. For me it is not science fiction - but in this case: a drama in a slightly science-fiction'y environment (same as the MCU is action/fantasy in a science fiction environment).

But apart of this: the overall drama is good - and the whole mystery of the events all over the world are interesting enough to keep you watching.

I give this a high rating for one thing

The self evident truth that an EV will be pretty useless in a post apocalyptic/ breakdown of civilisation situation.

Nice one Apple educational and entertaining

Thanks 👍

Watching paint dry would be more exciting

This trainwreck in in sloooooooow motion. No point in a spoiler alert, nothing has happened after three episodes. The aliens plan on killing us all by boring us to death.

The only reason it's worth watching at this point is to see the little bully kid get eaten alive slowly and methodically by a giant alien monster.

A new low for Apple and television as a whole
Wilishem28 November 2021
First, a high praise should be given to the actors. They act out the script very well and quite believable. But that's where the good things end, 'cause then comes the script itself. And it's so overly clichéd. I'm not going to repeat what everyone has already said, I wholeheartedly agree with all those comments. The lack of fresh ideas is just shocking considering the huge budget that was spent on this show.

In fact, this show reminds me of another Apple's creation, See. It too has had a great potential and an intriguing premise but turned out to be a slow, boring and mindless flop.

Lord of the flies? Black hawk down?
rikudouensof2 November 2021
Readers could relate the cliché. I love how the writers placed the different personality in the children. It shows the growth of human to their maturity.

How the military team leader is handling his personal troubles and trying hard not to project it out, or being true to his nature is humbling. Though I do not support any form of killing, He earned my respect.

But why do partners become unfaithful. It hurts a lot. It does not matter that I am male, if I get cheated on to the level in this episode, I would be broken.

Wajo Wajo Wajo and Billy Barratt
yusufpiskin26 October 2021
The references to 'The Lord of the Flies' were amazing.

Max Richter added soul to every scene.

Billy Barratt will be an Oscar-winning actor in the future.

Slower than a dead turtle
JaySHN24 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Alright writers and (viewers of this review), i'll give you one advice. WHERE is the most interesting thing happening in your plot and ARE YOU showing us that?

The way i see it and i know you guys know it as well, this show is dead boring, its slow and painful. They dont show us the aliens at all (one time). This is like watching Ninja Turtles but from the passer-by perspective only. Who came up with this?

Show us the alien, and ONLY the alien-human interactions part. I know the "multiple people/location" is setting up a global point of view on it, cool thats not bad, but my god in one episode 10 minutes went by watching a japanese girl cry. WHAT IS GOING ON?

This has to be the most boring alien invasion on T. V. And the fun part? The show is called INVASION, it should be called "SAD PEOPLE DURING AN ALIEN INVASION AND THEIR SAD LIVES."

There's a lot of that.

1/10 episode.

I think I'm done already.
markz-2105323 October 2021
There is nothing actually happening, and there is not one single likeable character in this entire mess so far. At this point I am literally waiting for whatever Aliens are supposed to be "invading" to just kill every single person onscreen. Will not be watching the rest of this.

What happened to the sci-fi element?
dharmashantilove26 October 2021
Episode 2 was pretty good with a buildup momentum, but this episode was all drama and overused cliches. Episode 2 had just the right amount of drama, but this episode went to heavy on the drama. Much of it not needed and zero sci-fi.

And the cliff scene? Uhm, really though? Very unrealistic. Although the actors are quite solid in their performances, especially the teens.

Hopefully it will come back together in the next episode.

Is this the way TV is truly going? YES
namstonk23 October 2021
Once again apologies for ranting.

So we open in Afghanistan and after ending in Afghanistan it's an actual first win for this series.

Back to America, I think.

Then back to wimpy kid and eejut friends, but it doesn't make any sense, how?

Then to Japan.

All the above happens in four/five mins.

Then back to Afghan, where? Well Morocco does look lovely. Where promptly what we assume will be a hero falls to the ground with exhaustion but has no sweat upon him, yes this series is very good.

Now back to England, where a major accident has occurred but snacks are the first recourse because after falling over 100ft into a quarry in a bus you need some sugar and a maize snack.

Then back with the adulterer, we don't know where they are because the director clearly feels it's pointless, boy is he right. I think we're in Mexico, seriously I don't care but surely someone should. Then we get a radio announcer, "some strange things do seem to be happening'. My god the writing is up with Dickens.

Boom, back in Afghanistan, guess what? The man with exhaustion and no sunburn etc has a quick swig of water from a kind gentleman and is back fine, oh hang on, no he's moaned too much.

Wow, back in Japan. Our female hero asks a silly question, seriously silly. Then steals, er papers, is followed by security who look like they've been validating parking and promptly get locked out of a security area, what? Turns out a comms expert is apparently an security expert by pressing four buttons.

Kerpow, back in glorious England where more antics occur. Amazingly the bus that crashed came with enough tarpaulins to cover the whole incident and everyone likes to have a skipping rope. Plus the young female who likes the wimp now gives him a rundown of the goings-on as if a secretary implying his four o'clock meeting has been pushed backed till half past and his wife wants him to pickup milk on his way home. In this amazing scene we see them putting bits of paper onto a fire and ripping from text books to keep the amazing flames going, while a perfect wood pallet is behind our wimp hero.

Much bs is then spoken.

Jeez, back to the adulterer, somewhere, upstate New York. More bad acting and no one else seems at all bothered.

Back in blighty, the bully wants to actually take over the er quarry, ala Lord of the Flies, but the wimp does nowt unsurprisingly again. Seriously we all hope they die from from the most excruciating ways possible by now.

What wait, oh we're back with adulterer, seriously I've given up, apparently they both loved each other.

You can see why Apple never allowed this to be seen by any critics' previous to release.

Afghanistan, the dude still whines even after being helped, what a .......? Amazing how his skin and beard are still so lush, probably gets his products from Amazon. Wow this is the longest scene in the entire episode 5 mins at least.

Meanwhile in England, the bus driver who went head first into a 100ft quarry is a bit cold, thankfully the wimp has told him to "rest', phew, I thought he was going to die.

Just make it stop please.

Then a most harrowing scene occurs, the bully who picked on wimp earlier kicks out the fire, the fire that is over 30 yards away from the bus that fell 100ft at least.

So back to Japan, this must surely get better?

Nope, even the joke has been used on TV before. The lesbian is sad, imagine that, losing someone to space in an 'accident', wow we really are the same. The writing is appalling, of course we suffer the same, love is love.

Apologies to anyone who has read my last 3 rants, but this is now the gumph produced by the so called liberators Apple. Cliché, narrow minded leftist, lazy written twaddle.

Can't believe I started to watch this because Sam Neill was in it.

Kinberg is very bad, good producer though.

Mind it's better than Foundation, seriously why did they pay for the rights?

Horrible characters
Ingalilla19 December 2021
Not one likable character so far. Third episode in, I don't know where this is going, keep fastforwarding as it is very slow paced. I don't even mind if a well written and acted show is slow, but this is neither. Someone said wait until episode 6, then it really gets going. Lets see...

It really is that bad of an episode.
thegreenteaman12 December 2023
Caspars storyline is so shallow it hurts. A perfectly innocent child who has health problems and an abusive father. The childs antagonist is a prodigy in sociopathic manipulation and uses it to inflict pain and misery on Caspar and thus fill the mold of perfect evil.

The main families story runs parallel: The mother is a perfect innocent who went above and beyond to take care of her kids and husband while the husband lies, cheats, and tries to abandon them in the middle of a catastrophe. Their plot in the episode is a repeat from before: 'The father cares. Oh no wait he's actually just selfish and waiting for his chance to leave.'

No surprise to find out another characters father left them in violent, traumatic fashion. So what's the takeaway? Old men are evil? Fathers are bad? Children need protection from them?

This episode even has a beautiful scene of a father lamenting the loss of his young daughter. Yet I can't help but think there's a writer out there who feels like the only child unhurt by their father is the one who died before they met them.

From bad to worse
random-7077822 October 2021
I can imagine the writers room for this. Five people write every bad cliché they have ever read put them in a bucket and then draw each one out and stick it onto a page. This is just bad, torpid melodrama.

I'm struggling to find a character I like
mike_p_allen25 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This isn't an alien invasion story... it's a bunch a different story lines about really nasty people. The US soldier for example.... Could he be any nastier?? His default is to scream, shout and point his weapon at everyone.... Personally I'd send an alien fleet just to get him out of the show! The British bully.. wow.... His level of mental bullying is way beyond his years.... More of the level of an inept screenwriter. Five times now I've tried to finish this episode and each time I manage to watch one scene.... Each time thinking that I wish the aliens would just hurry up and finish this bunch off!
