Why your not Burgie! Your Hiiiiie!
sol12189 February 2011
***SPOILERS*** Out of work actor Ed Minnit, Douglas Dick,in what I assume in him trying to get a part in an "Dragnet" or "The Untouchables" TV episode impersonates the totally harmless and meek butterfly collector Tim "Burgie" Bergdoll, Joseph Hamilton, and commits a cold blooded murder at the local Gyspy Restaurant that his girlfriend Clara, Marian Collier, works at as the eatery's official photographer!

Minnit making sure that he's photographed, with his face fully exposed, by Clara blows cashier Maria , Helen Chapman, away in front of at least a half dozen witnesses! It's not long that the totally innocent and confused,in him being arrested for what later turned out to be 1st degree murder, Tim Bergdoll is behind bars with all the evidence, photographic as well as eye witness, stacked up against him!

The police calling in freelance photographer Mike Kovac,Charles Bronson, to check out the evidence he soon spots something very strange in the photo taken of "Bergdoll" gunning down Maria! The guy in the photo, Tim Bergdoll, looks at least 15 years younger then the person that's supposed to be in it!

Examining the negative Mike soon realizes that whoever shot and killed Maria was determined, by being so out in the open and amateurish, to frame Bergdoll for her murder! Mike's suspicions is soon confirmed when Minnit breaks into his apartment and, after whacking Mike in the head, takes off with the negative!

***SPOILERS***Mike knowing that Minnit is Marie's killer but not having any proof tricks, through Minnit's girlfriend Clara, the out of work actor to show up at Gyspy Restaurant to talk with a big time Hollywood director about a part, a leading role no less, he wants him to in his next mega million dollar, possibly "Ben Her" or "North by Northwest", production! Showing up and looking for his big break in the movies Minnit is instead put under the lights and given a face over by an expert Hollywood make-up artist, with Mike Kovac and the local police making sure he doesn't miss his appointment, who makes Minnit look exactly like the person in the photo who gunned down Maria!

Trying to make a run for it Minnit is apprehended, with a flying tackle, by Mike Kovac who together with the long arm of the law makes sure that his next movie part is behind bars at Sing Sing prison's notorious death row!

Chuck for the defense

Chuck goes on a one-man crusade to help clear an ordinary guy who is being framed for murder in this story that directly relates to his profession as a professional photographer. There are no big-name (or any level of fame) guest stars here, with the focus squarely on Chuck. Chief evidence is a photo snapped by the restaurant's girl photographer showing the robber/killer in action.

He even gets into a fight with a restaurant employee which shows Chuck doing some minor but realistic stunt work, to keep the series within the category of an Action show.

While low on suspense, with the viewer made well aware throughout how the real killer (an actor who impersonates the fall guy politician) operates, it's still fun to watch just for the intensity Chuck invests in his role, a no-nonsense, unpretentious crusader for what's right. The elements of this unlikely superstar's eventual success as an international movie star (and icon) are on full display here.

Eye Witness
Prismark1010 November 2021
Ed Minnit is an out of work actor but he has a plan to get rich and blame someone else for it.

He disguises himself as an old man and steals the taking from a restaurant. His girlfriend photographs his face but unfortunately he guns down a waitress.

Minnit made his look like Tim Bergdoll. An elderly taxi driver who picks customers up from the restaurant.

Bergdoll is picked up by the police and it looks like an open and shut case. After all there were witnesses who swear that the robber was Bergdoll.

Mike Kovac is not convinced. When he looks at the negative, it looks like a young man who has disguised himself.

Convincing the police is a different matter.

Obviously a confused Bergdoll has no idea why he has been arrested. The police seem to care little about his good character or a lack of forensics. Then again Kovac does careless things like leaving his negative behind his apartment.
