Heart is in the right place, doesn't stick the landing...
shreyc13 August 2021
The discussion around policing has changed a lot in the last ~10 years and rightfully so. Obviously a show taking place in a police department would have to deal with that. Unfortunately, this episode feels like a very one-dimensional take on a very complicated issue.

Characters are simply split into "good" and "bad" groups and they fall into the most predictable, stereotypical camps. People that agree with the politics will give it a 10, people who disagree will give it a 1. Personally, I think the problem is not with the politics, but with how poorly the themes of the episode are woven into the story. It feels like the show is trying to tell me how to think and that feels a little uncomfortable, even if I *do* ultimately agree with the message being presented.

Some might say that it's not the responsibility of a comedy show to deal with such serious issues, but I disagree. Other shows have managed to bridge social commentary and comedy premises and we should be holding comedies to higher standards.

Wtf indeed
drpainters20 August 2021
It was really just them apologizing for being cops on tv and it's all awkward, barely any jokes. Really hope the next bunch of EPs are better, hate for the series to go out like this.

The writing is just lazy they literally just name off current events like robots.

What happened to this show?
brandongraz14 August 2021
This show has dealt with political issues before in ways that felt natural and were very well executed. There was no subtlety in this episode, this isn't necessarily an issue but the execution is so poor. It's like they had a bot read a Twitter rant and then write this episode. They literally list off all events of the last year in the first five minutes. This was as pathetic as it gets.

Felt awkward and forced
thedarkpheonixmc16 August 2021
The episode just felt like the writers addressing the elephant in the room. The plot lines didn't feel natural, and the bits were incredibly unfunny which isn't consistent with the rest of the show. I get they had a message for this episode, but the execution was really... really... bad.

Warning: Spoilers
Boring, unfunny, overly political, I hate to see shows and movies, especially one I hold so dearly, just waste a whole episode making a political comment, this show is fiction and them incorporating all the complicated BLM stuff kinda took away from the shows light hearted humor.

has been done better in the same show
aawallace-6315813 August 2021
This episode was not a great start to the final season not only did i feel most of the characters flanderized but turning jake and charles in to straw men was a cheap move i applauded them not doing the previous times they talked serious issues. In previous episodes they were able to seamlessly balance humor and and drama but here it just awkwardly shifts gears between the two. And finally was the lack of nuance in the previous episodes while they agreed on the issue they acknowledged that there was not one right answer and none without some consequences and that was utterly absent.

Ultimately i feel this is an episode weak in comedy covering atopic they already did but much worse and will ultimately change zero minds.

Such a low episode
cochise-9075914 August 2021
I genuinely don't understand the writing on this episode, it was disjointed, didn't piece together and made little sense. An episode to tick boxes rather than actually furthering the fight this was supposed to promote.

Shocking.

Way too political
patronuscw15 August 2021
Very disjointed episode. The jokes are simply not funny. The characters try so hard to be politically correct that it's eye-catching. Could have had a lighter take on that issue while keeping the signature charm.

Wow, the script was terrible
Dog-River14 August 2021
Ok, I love Brooklyn 99. It's a show I look forward to watching every week and also binge-watching. This whole episode was just an example of bad writing. I think I only laughed once, when Amy made that crazy face at Captain Holt. They might as well have the actors just stand there staring at the camera and say what's right and wrong. That's what this episode felt like.

If you're going to have an episode about this topic atleast write it well. It was so boring and predictable, because you knew what was going to happen with Charles and Terry and you knew what was going to happen with Jake and Rosa. I'm really hoping they get back to how the show used to be. This is a half-hour comedy. You can include topics like this (ex. The ep. Where Terry was arrested by the white cop in his neighbourhood. That was a great episode.

It's fine
emceephi5 October 2021
This episode was just fine.

But I see there are a lot of conservative snowflakes here who are upset. Is it really that wrong for a COP show to do one episode about police brutality?

Don't know what everyone is talking about
Mort_Lemur13 August 2021
So far the few reviews posted have been ****. Even though the first episode wasn't the best you can't say this show is ****. The episode wasn't even that bad. Sure it didn't have as many laughs but it was enjoyable to see it back.

So there's just no jokes anymore?
mrswizz14 August 2021
What was a comedy is now a badly made after school special. No jokes. Not even a smile came. I struggled to watch it. There's a time and place for what they were attempting but this wasn't it. Just really sad. RIP Brooklyn 99.

Was missing the comedy.
bowman-7841414 August 2021
I love watching this show. It is easily my favorite show of all time. I have loved every episode in past seasons that handled controversial topics around policing, but this episode just ain't it, chief. The comedy was missing from a comedy show, and they tried too hard to throw too much at you all at once. If the topics they tried to cover had been spaced out over a couple of episodes and explored more in depth, but leaving enough time to fit in jokes and keeping to their usual pattern, it would have been much better.

So awkward...
albertboye22 August 2021
This episode was so extremely uncomfortable to watch. Everything was just awkward and seemed forced. This is easily the worst episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine I've ever watched.

Not spontaneous
andreolimarco22 September 2022
Finally the last season in available. Couldn't wait to watch it.

To be honest the premiere isn't that good, they decided to deal with the "Black Lives Matter" issue, I am not judging the decision they made, but the execution is not as good as you can expect.

It does not look spontaneous, looks stilted.

It's a pity because this comedy is one of those which mainteined itself at pretty high levels for all the seasons.

Even the Holt-Santiago plot is nothing really interesting. Same as Terry-Charles one which is pretty pointless from my point of view.

Hope the season will "recover" to get the series a worthy finale.

How they managed to write an episode that still had some chuckles in and dealt with the complexities of the year. Cracking effort. Loved the Holt and Amy storyline.

It's a perfectly fine episode. If you're in control of your own emotions and insecurities then you'll be fine.

I get it, but it wasn't good
derekjohnson-5898113 August 2021
I get that they needed to address the climate given the premise of the show, but it was just done very poorly. Didn't feel B99 at all. I love the show and they've done a good job with sensitive topics in the past but this episode was just not good.

A different episode, but not necessarily a bad one
royareyhaneh14 August 2021
What other viewers say is the main weakness of this episode, I think, is its strength. The last season of the show, I think, does something that other sitcoms don't even dare to think about, and that is high-quality entry into drama. The mission of Brooklyn Nine Nine is not just to present comedy, but as a show that has already entered into social issues, it is the task of this show to express its own point of view this time as well.

Episode 801
bobcobb30128 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
When we got word that the season was going to be rewritten that was a bad sign, but no one could have expected this.

I am fine with TV shows going political, but this felt like a parody of someone being woke. The fact they were serious with this anti-cop drivel was embarrassing.

lancerr-7345514 August 2021
Lazy writing, Non-sensible decisions on the direction the show is heading. If they hadn't planned to cancel the show, this episode would've sealed it anyway.
