The Making of a Star

It's bittersweet to see a movie about such an icon as Selena. She was a young, beautiful, VERY talented girl...whose life was cut short by an insane woman. For me, the series moved too slow and I found myself longing to get a glimpse of the confident performer I remember so well. I also came to be confused about her dad...; he was so protective and domineering over everyone I was at a loss as to his permitting her to perform in scanty clothing. It seemed incongruent with his character in the series. I didn't think that the actress portraying Selena really looked like her...the real Selena was a gorgeous Latina...this young lady was lovely, but not Latina. It was refreshing to see more of Suzette's personality and her closeness to her sister. But then, when I saw she was one of the producers it made sense her role would be enhanced as compared to the role in the JLo movie. The acting was marginal...I'd grade it as a "C". It seemed that the actors were play acting rather than truly reflecting the real folk. Oftentimes their lines were either forced or too stiff. I'll see all the episodes...curious as to whether things will evolve.

Clinical

This first episode felt very clinical, no heart from the cast and the storyline skipped through Selena's early years like it was in a history book.
