The annual Oscar melee always reminds us of this mandate: Never believe the “buzz.” Every important movie arrives with an aura – and it’s usually wrong or misleading.
The advance buzz on The Godfather was so disastrous even Francis Coppola sensed it was doomed. This year, All Quiet on the Western Front was deemed too violent and depressing to be a contender, but it’s collecting BAFTA Awards (seven) and Oscar nominations (nine).

Toy Story 4 grossed a cool 1 billion during the summer of 2019. This was achieved after a nearly decade-long hiatus following the previous film in the Buzz and Woody franchise, Toy Story 3 (2010), which also earned 1 billion. The lack of box office fall-off between installments was remarkable. So this week’s news from rechristened Disney CEO Bob Iger wasn’t exactly a shock: Toy Story 5 is on the way. Apparently with both Tom Hanks’ Woody and Tim Allen’s Buzz Lightyear, if Allen’s social media posts are anything to go by. Still…

In what feels like the increasingly distant past, there was a time when Disney was reluctant to make “official” sequels to their works—which is to say theatrically released films produced by either Walt Disney Animation Studios or the company’s live-action film department. The company certainly spent the ‘90s exploiting the financial appeal of follow-ups,...

With few big sales titles available at TIFF this year — a Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin two-hander and Lin-Manuel Miranda-produced YA feature excepted — business coming out of the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival looks muted at best.
The vast majority of TIFF films already have domestic distribution in place — with studios and indie players like Neon and A24 looking to use the North America festival as an awards season springboard. What’s left is a smattering of sales titles, Cannes holdovers and a handful of out-of-festival buyers’ screenings to stir up interest.
Focus Features’ production and acquisitions head Kiska Higgs is optimistic that the sluggish indie theatrical market will eventually bounce back from its Covid slump and pull people away from streaming services — “I can’t imagine a world in which I want to be on my couch for any second longer than...

Hilary Linstead, casting director, agent and film and stage producer died on Aug. 6 after contracting a form of leukaemia. She was 83.

Born in London in 1938, and educated at Cheltenham Ladies College, Linstead went to Australia as a professional actor, as a member of an English touring company. After realizing that acting was not for her, Linstead found her metier as a casting director and worked in an advertising company and at International Casting Services representing actresses. In 1962 she married Leon Stemler.

Supergirl reaches its 100th episode when it returns for the second half of season 5 in 2020, and this new set photo seems to reveal that there’s a massive twist to the status quo coming in that milestone installment.
As per Hollywood North Buzz, the following image comes from filming in Vancouver on season 5 episode 13, titled “It’s a Super Life.” And it seems to unmistakably show Melissa Benoist’s Kara Danvers revealing to the world that she’s really the Girl of Steel.
Did Kara Danvers just spill the tea that she's Supergirl at a press conference?!#Supergirl filming in Downtown Vancouver today.
