Jeremy Strong
slklutz4 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
**SPOILERS**

His performance in this episode especially at the end, blew me away. He has played this character from the highs to the lows of Kendall's self-confidence (maybe Bipolar), really allowing us to "feel" Kendall's heart breaking. ****SPOILER***

But at the end, when Kendall walked away from Shiv, I could actually "feel" how "beaten down" he was feeling, by his posture, his walk, his attitude...and I could feel tears rolling down my face. Bravo! Amazing performance!! Maybe there's an award in his future? I hope so!

I just loved how tom went absolutely crazy when greg said he wanted them to be in an "open relationship" It's like all the things that tom ever wanted to tell shiv but just couldn't .....

Also the amount of feelings that hit you just by looking at kendall's face ,he is brilliant.

I absolutely love this show

Wow just when I thought I'd seen the best episode of the season I watch this one and it blew me away. Bravo, Holly Hunter who played the rival CEO brilliantly (" if things don't work out we will always have the panic room"). Her delivery was stellar.

Superb writing. Jesse Armstrong's skill for creating complex, multi layered characters that navigate equally complex storylines is masterful. Final scene with Strong's controlled emotions was made even more perfect with Snook's wonderful nuance (she is a huge talent). I am so impressed with this series. And the musical score is soooo haunting and beautiful. It's sort of Bartok and Prokofiev rolled into one ( appropriate given Logan's shades of Stalin). Wow.

Closing in on perfection
geeboy372 September 2019
I honestly cannot get over how amazing this show is. I don't think I've ever seen a show that establishes so many sub stories and brilliantly weaves them in and out of the story and through character interaction. And speaking of characters, each main one has been built with such detailed complexity that they can be extremely subtle and it still says so much. Actors, writing, directing, cinematography and music....closing in on perfection.

Best one yet
perlshop12 January 2022
I thought 'hunting' was good only to be succeeded by this episode. Strong is an amazing actor and his acting is so good you could just feel what the char is feeling just seeing his eyes and body language. I guess I'm late to the party but I really hope he won an award for his brillant portrayal of Ken.

Rest of the cast is pretty amazing too. Really starting to like Roman.

Jeremy strong is in my opinion in the top 5 best living actors right now . What an episode !!. The end reminded me of the finale of last season in which jeremy strong (kendall) delivered one of the best acting ever. Both performances made me cry .

This is definitely the best show onHBO ! Bye GOT!

[8.5] Kendall's demons
cjonesas11 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 4: A blend of unique performances from masterful, bright and full of talent actors. The range of emotions shown, especially Kendall's, are nearly breathtaking.

Although, it still feels artificial as a whole, too self-centered on the family , puny Greg and fish-cold Shiv who basically does nearly nothing in each episode, besides recounting her life to strangers who in turn say that they don't care as long as she's in front of them, eye to eye. Could that be more false or true?!

Also, in the last sadly glaring scene, even she was baffled and couldn't comprehend the new level of D O W N that Kendall has reached.

Kudos to Jeremy Strong, It really felt like he would jump if it weren't for those glasses.

As good as it gets

Warning: Spoilers
What a ride, this show. Where there really isn't a single likeable character in the show, it still works like a charm because everybody is twisted AF. Even good little Gregg starts understanding and playing the game. This episode was perfect because of Kendall; the shoplifting symbolizes that he doesn't feel anything anymore and has everything takes away from him. He can't even ride a bike when he wants to, so he steals stuff simply as a way to still feel a little power. The glass wall at the end of the episode was amazing, he leans his head against it understanding that even that little piece of control he had left in his own life (jumping or not, where he chose not to every day) is now taken away from him as with everything else. He is nothing and he accepts it. Wow. What an actor. I cried during that scene with Shiv. Can't wait to see the rest.

"I will not accept this Greg" - Masterful episode
UniqueParticle2 September 2019
I love Matthew Macfayden and Jeremy strong in this one, everyone else is great too! Kieran Culkin sure loves to say the F word a lot, he's got a cool personality I'd hang out with him in real life. I love how less secure panic rooms were used in this one to avoid a threat reminds me of the movie Panic Room which is fantastic!

One of the Best Succession Episodes
TRIDENT174525 January 2022
This episode is phenomenal. There is (for once) actual laughable humor with MANY dark jokes. The whole episode is overlaid with disturbing undertones, with exceptional emotive development, particularly within Kendell. The final sequence was absolutely captivating, and one of the best sequences in this show. The cinematography is great, the acting is above the Succession standard and great plot development is featured throughout.

"Safe Room" remains as one of my favourite Succession episodes.

Jeremy is so effing good

Warning: Spoilers
Ok this episode is for me just a masterpiece (yeah i'm overrating it as hell) but that ending bro, Kendall just opening up to his sister, the fact that he can't even look at her, nor tell her the truth is just hearthbreaking for him and for the audience and it is directed incredibly well. The acting is dope too.

A great episode to a show i already put in my top 3 shows.

Will Shiv Get Shived?
Hitchcoc14 September 2022
Kendall (Jeremy Strong) is about as good as it gets. The beauty is he is under control as an actor. His character is so complex with the most insane underpinnings. He is the product of this family. His successes are amazing, yet meaningless to Logan. With Logan, there is no show. He is what he is to those people and that is someone who would kick any of them to the curb. The accident hangs heavy and Kendall can't say a word. His final meeting with Shiv is so dramatic in the most subtle way. Tom is proving to be so messed up. He is ultimately dangerous. Greg awkwardly walks through the killing fields. His scene with Tom where he confesses to having saved documents is great. Tom appreciates a devious mind.

A very revealing yet hilarious episode.
bayleykedar17 November 2021
A very mixed selection of positives can be taken from this episode.

'Safe Room' manages to include some the series' most vulnerable and emotionally-dense material, specifically the sequence at its end, and some of its most hilarious, gut-busting comedy. The chemistry between Tom and Greg is incredible to watch. Both are wonderful comics, who manage to blend some of Succession's most dramatic sequences with the right amount of sheer hilarity.

I really believe that the show is coming into its own. These characters often speak more with their bodies than their mouths, and there is a particular scene featuring Shiv, Kendall and Logan that exemplifies this perfectly. It is storytelling through virtually everything besides the dialogue, yet the writing is still stellar.

Cox is a marvel. A true master who reveals all the viewer needs to know simply with his eyes. Vulnerable, tense, revealing - all can be used as descriptors for this episode. This season is turning out to be quite the ride.

JonyVeana12 January 2022
Wuaaaaau the best episode this season, Tom,Greg, Roman, Logan, Shiv ,Connor what an amazing cast of characters this was so funny to watch, the scene with Greg and Tom was hilarious basically Greg tell Tom the same things Shiv said to Tom and based in the reaction of Tom he was never happy with that marriage arragment.

And Connor funeral speech was the most weirdest speech i ever heard i don't understand Connor at all,he is the most weirdest character of the show even more than Roman.

That's It! I had to create an account on IMDb just to talk about this episode.

Warning: Spoilers
For me, it's tragic. It is tragic to see a lifeless existence like Kendall Roy.

The photography in this episode used shots against him that seemed suffocating, he is being watched at all times and he knows it. His off-camera actions (drugs and theft) demonstrate, in my view, an escape valve, a call to his being to have some kind of control and power again. Jeremy Strong's performance left me in tears, it was heartbreaking to see so closely and with such a magnificent performance, the nuances of a depressive phase.

Of course he is a fictional character and a billionaire, but still within his personality in complex and at the same time subtle ways, so full of pride as we know initially, asking Shiv for help was like a cry for help. Between the lines, a desperate attempt to return to life. This subtlety that the writers and the actor gave to an action that seemed like an act of desperation could not have impacted me as much if it had been someone screaming for help. I'm speechless, for me it's the highlight of this episode.

The power play between Tom and Greg are also things to pay attention to, the feeling it gives me is that Tom reflects certain problems he faces in his marriage with Shiv, in the friendship-business relationship with Greg, he wants to be loved, prestigious, someone who recognizes him, who is there for him, when he understands that the family he tries so hard to impress or be part of doesn't treat him the way he wants. And the lack of control shown when his expectations are dissolved in front of him shows a child who has not yet developed emotional intelligence.

The name of the episode being Safe Room couldn't be more accurate, where it doesn't talk about the Safe Room itself, but the desperation and desire that each character has within themselves and that needs to be contained, protected and supported in some way. Like with Shiv, where she's desperately trying to get into business in this episode and being held back several times by Logan, she seems to want to be liked, wants to belong, wants to show her worth but always seems to be pushed into self-isolation.

I don't think I'll ever forget this episode, it touched me in so many ways.

24 billion out of nowhere?
interestingstuff31 December 2022
Just a few episodes ago we were told that Roy family owes about $3 billion and they can't come up with this money to pay off their debt so the company's stock price crashes but in this episode they are able to come up with $24 billion to offer to buy another news network without any explanation. Where would they even find this kind of money out of blue when they couldn't find a much smaller sum a few episodes ago?

Besides this, it was a nice episode with storylines moving forward, some nice dialogue and funny moments. We are also seeing a build up of tension between Shiv and Kendall for the first time. Hopefully it builds up into something serious in future episodes.
