Doctor Who: The Seeds of Doom: Part 2 starts as the monstrous Krynoid kills Moberley (Michael McStay) & escapes into the cold of the Antartic night... Meanwhile Scorby (John Challis) & Keeler (Mark Jones) put their plan to steal the second alien pod into action & hold the Doctor (Tom Baker), Sarah Jane (Elisabeth Sladen) & Stevenson (Hubert Rees) at gunpoint & threaten to kill them unless they tell them the whereabouts of the pod which they have no choice but to. Scorby & Keeler get hold of the pod & place a bomb in the generator plant which will send the whole base sky high with the Doctor, Sarah & Stevenson all trapped inside...
Episode 22 from season 13 this Doctor Who adventure was originally aired here in the UK during Febuary 1976, directed by Douglas Camfield The Seeds of Doom is rightly regarded as a classic story & I'm enjoying it so far. The script by Robert Banks Stewart is moving along at a nice pace & borrows heavily from The Thing From Another World (1951) & The Day of the Triffids (1962) which is no bad thing as this is a pretty scary episode from a time when Doctor Who had balls & actually tried to be scary with creepy monsters & good story lines. The character's have been good & fairly believable as has the dialogue & this story is shaping up nicely. The cliffhanger ending here isn't the best the series has ever had but sometimes they feel forced anyway so it's no great loss, overall a great blend of entertaining light hearted sci-fi & horror.
This one looks pretty good & hasn't dated too badly although the character's lack of proper clothing while out in supposedly sub zero temperatures is rather distracting & destroys the credibility a bit while I still don't like the look of that snow but you can't have everything I suppose. Doctor Who fans will recognise the Krynoid suit as the one used in the Jon Pertwee story The Claws of Axos (1971) from season 8 for the Axons themselves but spray painted green...
The Seeds of Doom: Part 2 is a great second episode in a great Doctor Who story that tries to be scary & creepy just the way I like the show.
