- TriviaEve appears for the first time since Xena: Warrior Princess: Whose Gurkhan? (2000). Her absence has not been mentioned, though it is revealed that she embraced her role as the messenger of Eli and had assumed a leadership role amongst the followers. She was originally set to appear in Xena: Warrior Princess: The Abyss (2000) alongside Virgil, but was removed due to another project Adrienne Wilkinson was working on at that time.
- Quotes
Gabrielle: [Villagers lie dead in a field. Xena and Gabrielle walk through them] Xena, what kind of animal would do this?
Xena: [Michael appears. Xena suddenly draws her sword on him] What do you *want*, Michael?
Archangel Michael: I sense hostility. I want you to know I'm all right with that.
Xena: Well, that is big of you, considering last time you saw me, you tried to have me cast down into *Hell*...
Archangel Michael: Desperate times warrant desperate measures.
[pause]
Archangel Michael: As you see, some new desperate times have arrived.
Xena: [referring to the dead innocent villagers] Who *did* this?
Archangel Michael: Caligula.
[pause]
Archangel Michael: You know his reputation.
Xena: He's a psycho, a sex addict and a murderer; your run-of-the-mill Roman emperor...
Gabrielle: And he thinks he's a God.
Archangel Michael: No, he *is* a God.
Xena: He's immortal? But how did that happen?
Archangel Michael: I don't know. What's important is that the God of Eli gave you the power to kill Gods. You're the only one who can stop Caligula. He killed Tiberius in order to gain power - murdered every last member of his family. He's slain anybody who won't swear allegiance to his Cult of Blood. He wants to write his name into the history books as one of the Great Gods of the Pantheon. And he'll destroy anyone who won't submit to him.
Xena: Including angels, no doubt.
Archangel Michael: [smirks] And, uh, the followers of Eli.
Xena: [pause] If anything's happened to Eve, Michael...
Archangel Michael: Not yet, but your daughter has the courage of her convictions. She's gone to confront Caligula's persecution.
Gabrielle: Eve's in Rome?
Xena: [aggressively] If I find out that you're behind *any* of this, Michael, I swear, I...
Archangel Michael: As you well know, Xena, your daughter obeys a higher power than me.
Xena: Michael, don't forget; if I can kill Gods... I can kill angels, too!

Sure, "Xena" had always been a skin show, but they still always looked tough, and it never distracted from the series. But, in season six, the loss of some of the best writers in the series (Chris Manheim and Steven L. Sears) had clearly taken it's toll. As well, due to the harsh fan backlash over season five (which, in my opinion was one of the best seasons of the series), The Powers That Be began to turn to turn the show into what "fans wanted". The problem with this is what side of the fan base do you listen too? Generally the loudest part of the fan base is not the largest. As well, if you turn around and change your show to match someone else's vision, you lose site of your own a series must always have one person's vision at the forefront and season six did not.
Despite the lack of direction in season six, "Xena" never faltered on sets, costumes, music, etc. "The God You Know" features some truly gorgeous costumes, in particular, the one worn early in the episode by Lucy Lawless.
As always, the acting of "Xena" never suffers; Tydings and Smith, regular guest stars, both provided unique and fabulous performances. Wilkinson, ever burdened with dull dialogue and an ever whiner Eve, still manages to deliver a performance worth noting. The scenes between Wilkinson and Lawless are enjoyable in any episode and "The God You Know" is no exception.
