Forced Episode, Probably Worst Of The Series
verbusen17 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this Saint episode with my wife last night, its on one of the free TV channels that people watch when they don't have cable. Having grown up a Saint fan as a kid it was one of the few adult shows I enjoyed watching so I have fond memories of it. But man, this one is stretched beyond any credibility. Simon is friends with an US Army enlisted guy? Please give me a break. He is the guy who runs around with con men, royalty and diplomats. Very silly episode forces the action to progress where someone just HAS to be killed. Simon loses the bad guys multiple times and has his car stolen by one, yawn, that was the only way they could move this story along? The only redeeming thing here is the end fight which was decent since the bad guy had a flail and Simon had nothing. Probably the worst episode of The Saint I've ever watched, I hope its not me losing interest in this because its writing is so ridiculous.

German adventure with a good pace

A fairly entertaining episode of the show, a little lazy when it comes to the writing but entertaining with Germany's Oktoberfest as a backdrop to the action. This time we're focused on American troops in Munich, being set up and murdered by a criminal gang, before Templar comes looking for revenge after the death of an old friend. Cast members include Neil McCallum and Walter Gotell, the latter whom Moore would go on to work with again in the Bond series. There's slightly less fisticuff action this time around, and Templar comes across as a bit dopy or absent-minded, but the pacing is right which is what counts.

The Hi-Jackers

It is hard to believe that this story is based on a Charteris story. It really is a car crash.

Simon Templar is in Munich for Oktoberfest. That takes place in September. It just so happens that he bumps into Sgt Henry Johns, an old friend.

A couple of US army guys driving a truck get stuck in the parade.

They could have reversed out, instead they leave the truck to watch the parade. The truck gets stolen by a criminal gang who plan to steal contraband from the US army depot and sell it on the black market.

Sgt Johns is killed as the gang try to make their getaway. His girlfriend Mathilde Baum was in cahoots with the gang led by Hans Lasser (Walter Gotell.)

Of course The Saint is out for revenge and he has a plan to snare all the members of the gang.

I was waiting for this grand plan to be revealed. I mean the Saint carelessly left his keys in his car so Mathilde could make her escape.

He falls into a trap led by a shady ex US army guy who is involved with the criminals.

There was no grand plan, in the end it was the Saint left flailing about waiting to strike it lucky.
