Julia Jeffroll is a young woman who has managed to contact the Saint. He has hopped off to the Cornish coast and straight to an inn called The Weary Traveller.
Julia senses that her father Martin who has just recently purchased the inn is in trouble. There are three guests who have been staying in the inn for six weeks and her father is a worried man.
The Saint decides to stay and investigate. All three men are old army buddies, Tom Kane is the bad tempered one who immediately gets into a fracas with Simon Templar.
It seems with Martin has got involved with these men to dig a tunnel. It could be looking for smuggled treasure but Templar discovers it is too help free a dangerous criminal from jail.
