Hawkeye delivered a hilarious Sigmund Fred (not Freud) line in response to BJ's discussion about Reader's Digest - quite funny! Anyway, here Winchester sees an opportunity to confront his nemesis who banished him from the cushy comforts of Tokyo. But alas, there is a twist and Winchester is redeemed.

Warning: Spoilers
Going against their usual inclination both Hawkeye and Charles must do the seeming impossible. Hawkeye on a bet with BJ must restrain himself and go a full day without joking or making quips and caustic observations.
Charles must make a more difficult decision in the scheme of things and decide to stand up and tell the truth to keep from destroying Margaret's career or do somersaults to get a transfer back to Tokyo. In the end both Hawkeye and Charles pass the test . It's always two steps forward and one step back for Charles he makes progress but generally tries to retain his ways and stay on his turf but he's a little better each time.
Hawkeye has fun as he takes over the P. A. System and goes on a joke marathon after the day is finally up.

One of M.A.S.H.'s best episodes

Honestly I wish the bet that Hawkeye can't make jokes for a day makes this one of the best episodes of the series although it is suffering from the lack of Radar. It makes me realize how much better this show could have been without Alan Alda.
Hawkeye and Winchester Face Their Demons
Hitchcoc24 April 2015
Two things are going on at the base. Hawkeye, who normally can't go five minutes without a joke, bets B.J. he can go a whole day without an expression of wit. Winchester is visited by the man who sent him from Tokyo General to the MASH unit. Now he hopes if he plays his cards right, he will end up back in Tokyo. People expect sparks to fly. Hawkeye is internally hemorrhaging, trying not to tell any jokes. Both men are dealing with things which challenge their natures. Charles's adversary asks him to scrape up some companionship, so he goes to Rosie's and enlists a prostitute. Unfortunately, Margaret shows up at the guy's tent and there is quite a ruckus. Charles is forced to take the moral ground.
